Recovery Process

Summer was woken up by Matty in the morning! "Good morning Princess Summer!" she said with a wide smile. These girls were really beautiful and their smiles could melt a person's heart. She smiled back to her. "Good morning Matty!" She turned her head to the other side of her bed as if looking for something. "Where is Theo?" she asked after observing that she wasn't there. "She is in the kitchen, preparing your breakfast Princess," Matty responded. "I am here to help you get ready and take your medication," Matty added. "Is preparing breakfast for an individual a norm here or am I the only one eating? Doesn't everyone eat the same meal?" Summer asked, puzzled by this new life that she will have to get used to. She grew up in the orphanage and she never experienced any special treatment. In just a day she already felt that having maids was too overwhelming and she didn't know if she would ever get used to that. "No, it is not a norm. It's just that you have been in a coma for more than a week and you didn't eat during that time. The doctor instructed us to give you certain foods to nourish your body and help you gain strength quickly so naturally your food will be prepared separately," Matty responded and Summer nodded with understanding. " Don't worry princess, Theo is a qualified chef," she added as if she thought Summer would be worried about Theo's cooking ability. "Already a qualified chef? How old are you guys again?" she asked with wide eyes. Matty grinned. "We both finished our high-school at 15 and started at a culinary school immediately. We graduated last summer. Right now we are learning online. I'm doing a degree in educational psychology and Theo is doing a degree in educational technology," Matty relayed happily. Summer smiled."Wow! How impressive! You guys are exceptional! Your parents are really blessed!" she said to her. Matty's smile fell and she looked sulky. Summer frowned. 'Did I say something wrong?' She wondered! "I wish that was the case, Princess!" Matty pouted as if she was about to cry. Summer reached her hand and patted her shoulder. "I'm really sorry if I touched the wrong subject dear. I understand if you don't want to talk about it," Summer whispered, already feeling guilty about raising such a sensitive issue. "Oh no! It's okay princess Summer. It's a well known story in the kingdom, so I might as well let you know about it," Matty responded. Summer patted her bed for Matty to sit. "How about I tell you while you get ready in the bathroom? Theo might be bringing the food any time soon," instead of sitting down, she urged Summer to go and take a bath. Summer nodded and stood up to go to the bathroom. She nearly fell down because of dizziness. "Careful Princess! I'm sorry, if you don't feel okay, then maybe I can bring a bowl of water and help you wash your face and brush your teeth in here, rather?" Matty asked, holding up Summer in place, unsure if Summer would like her idea. "Oh no Matty, I'm just a little dizzy, perhaps because I haven't walked in a week? Just help me to the bathroom. I guess I'll be okay with time," Summer said, smiling to assure Matty. Matty nodded and held Summer's hand as they entered the bathroom. Matty and Theodora lost their parents in a battle with the rogues or the solitary wolves as they are called by the king. This happened when they were only ten years old. The king took them in and made sure they had everything they needed. This helped them become exceptional kids who skipped some grades. They graduated early due to that. Matty's narration to Summer left out the battle part. They had been warned not to overwhelm Summer with their real identity because that might affect her recovery. She wasn't supposed to be exposed to any talk involving wolves or werewolves, fearing to trigger her memory of what happened to her on the way thereby making it difficult for her to recover. Summer was deeply touched by the girls' situation but she was also impressed by the king's kindness. This made her admire him even more. Since last night she couldn't get him off her mind. She would imagine his strong hand holding hers while they strolled at the park or even imagined him carrying her bridal style on their wedding day but would brush off those imaginary thoughts as soon as they came. She didn't want to give herself false hope. The king didn't look impressed with her yesterday. "If it's of any consolation to you, I am also an orphan. The difference between me and you is that you knew your parents and even have their pictures. As for me, I know nothing about them and don't have anything to associate with them, except the little blankie I was wrapped in when they abandoned me outside an orphanage," Summer told her. Matty's face fell. She never imagined that Summer could have gone through such a horrible experience. "I'm so sorry Princess Summer! I didn't know! I…" she didn't know what to say next. Summer seemed to have experienced a lot in life. Summer assured her that she was fine and that she learned to accept her fate and carry on with life. She thought that she was undeserving of such a handsome and highly ranked man and she would understand if the King didn't want her, more so after hearing of her sob story. As soon as they were done getting ready, Theo entered with a wooden tray full of food and a steamy cup of milk. "Good morning princess! I hope you took your medication and are ready to dig into your meal," Theo said jubilantly. "Oh no! Wait a minute, let me get the medication for Princess!" Matty said, slapping her head for forgetting. Theo glared at her but did not say anything. She knew her sister had a tendency of blubbering non-stop and end up forgetting some things. They had never been maids before, but since they graduated, they felt that they could do it, so they begged the king to allow them. They also started training immediately after their parents were killed so the king was sure they would also protect Summer while taking care of her. Two hours after breakfast, the king went to check on Summer and also inform her about preparations for her training. She was still not fully recovered, so they wouldn't start it. On the other hand, they needed to prepare her by informing her about their real identity. King Lucian didn't know where he would start. They weren't afraid of her finding out about real identity but they were more concerned about her recovery. Just like Summer, Lucian couldn't get her pretty brown eyes out of his mind. He felt that he had fallen in love at first sight! This time around, he remembered to knock. The door opened and his time stopped for a moment, his breath caught up in his throat! He couldn't believe the beauty before him. Seeing her standing up for the first time. She was like a goddess! Not short and not tall. Compared to the giant he was, she wasn't a midget. She had curves in the right places and she looked great. Though she was still pale, she was a radiant and the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. For a few minutes they both couldn't find their voices again. Summer remembered that he was a King and she curtsied, trying to make a gesture of her skirt held with her two hands. She almost fell after losing her balance. A strong hand gripped her by the waist and she felt tiny sparks zapping her skin. They stayed like that for a while until she cleared her throat. His hand quickly left her waist after helping her get stable on her feet. "Good morning Princess Summer. You don't have to do that curtsy!" he said with a chuckle. She dropped her gaze, her face turning red as she blushed. He did everything in his power to restrain Liam who wanted to cup her red face or pull her into his embrace! " Good morning your Highness!" she responded. Though Lucian considered it cute, he didn't like that she was so formal with him. He wished she could feel the same way he felt about her and be free around him. Although he wanted to correct her, he figured he should let it off for now. He nodded! He looked around, expecting to see one of the girls or both but they were nowhere to be found. "Where did the maids go?" He asked, his tone suggesting that he didn't like their absence. "I told them to go and rest!" she said hesitantly. She didn't know if her decision to let them go rest before lunch was acceptable or not.
