Dinner With Everyone

"I don't think human beings can! Unless you are talking about those that I don't know of," Theo responded. Summer knew what she was saying! She frowned. "I am very much sure I heard him clearly! I didn't imagine it!" Summer protested, looking up as if spacing out. "Who did you hear, Princess Summer?" Unlike Matty, Theo didn't have restrictions. She didn't cower and she could ask anyone anything if she felt like asking. "The King! He literally growled at me. I mean an animalistic growl and I swear, it was as if an animal was growling at me. It was exactly the same as the one I heard from somewhere. It's just that I can't remember where," she said, scratching her head. Theo gulped! She wondered what could have happened that led to Liam showing up and growling at Summer, risking a premature exposure. She knew she couldn't probe, unless Summer told her herself but she modestly asked. "I don't know what could have happened but what I know is that the King has a deep raspy bass tone that might sound like an animal growl. Perhaps you may not have heard clearly?" Theo said. They had been briefed on how to not expose their real identity to avoid harming Summer. She had to be careful on how she responded to Summer's concerns at that moment. They were told the story about the king's betrothed who died ten years ago due to shock which raptured her organs out of fear. Theo looked at the beautiful Summer and didn’t wish for her to go through the same encounter. Summer was an extremely beautiful lady and also delicate. She didn't look both emotionally and physically strong to survive such shock. Summer looked at Theo and saw how she was calm after saying what she said. She thought perhaps she may have not heard properly. She nodded to the effect that she may have misheard. 'Perhaps my mind is on edge because of what I heard back in the convent?' She thought. Theo informed her of plans to have her join others for dinner! "Your presence is required at the dining hall this evening Princess Summer. I will have to get you ready immediately after lunch. Matty is done preparing the lunch and is about to bring it over," she told her. Summer figured she had no choice in any of these things. Though she knew she was nervous and didn't want to meet anyone, she couldn't refuse what may be mandatory. She just wanted to ask a few questions to get her mind ready for it. Growing up in the orphanage, she was always shy and reserved. She didn't join in the crowds and was always keeping to herself. So was the case even at the orphanage. "Who will be at that dinner?" she asked, hoping it would be a small crowd, or perhaps the royal family only. Even though the thought of that too made her heart beat faster, she could do with a smaller crowd than a bigger one. She grew even more nervous at her own thoughts. "The Royal council would be present! They would like to meet their future queen," Theo said jubilantly. "Royal council?" Summer asked, wondering if by "council" Theo meant the top members of the royal family. Perhaps her first thrust into a crowd would not be so intimidating? "Yes, the royal council! It is a team of elders who lead different ministries in the kingdom!" Theo explained with a smile. That didn't help Summer's nervousness at all. Her heart began to pace up inside her ribcage. She wished she could postpone or opt to never meet them at all. Theo's super senses picked her distress and hyper-beating heart. "You don't have to worry, princess Summer. You will not be asked any questions. It's normal practice to meet and dine with the would-be Queen immediately when she arrives! They couldn't do so because you haven't been well for a week now," she explained, thinking that would help. It made her heart beat even more frantically. She had never been a crowd person and has always kept to herself even at school. A certain lady had been called in to help her get ready for dinner. It felt as if she was being made ready for her wedding. Summer looked into the mirror and couldn't recognize the woman in front of her. It was as if she was straight out of a magazine cover. She never knew she could look that beautiful! Her make up was natural, nude lipstick, light grey eyeshadow, shaped eyebrows and fluttering eyelashes. She had always had thick eyebrows and eyelashes, therefore it made it easy for the makeup artist to use minimal makeup. "Please try to remain calm Princess, your heart is beating frantically! You might get sweaty and smear your makeup!" Matty advised. Summer looked at her with a look that said, 'why don't you be in my shoes and see whether you can remain calm?' "Will you be there too?" she asked both Theo and Matty, looking in between them hopefully. "Unfortunately we are servants Princess, we cannot be part of the dinner," Theo said. "Why? I thought you were raised in the palace as royals?" Summer asked, confused about their status! The girls smiled simultaneously. Though they had been treated as princesses in the palace, they had opted to become servants as a way to show gratitude to the King. Summer became even more nervous! She wondered how she was going to survive the night. If she had power, she would postpone it. Coming down the stairs, Summer felt as if she was going to trip and fall. She had always been one to dress casually and wear flat shoes. Right at that moment, she was wearing 3 inch stilettos. She felt like she was going to fall if she didn't hold on to the rails. The girls had come along with her from what seemed like the fifth story and left her where only one train of stairs was left. She was too nervous to look around and see the palace. She was only concentrating on not falling. Her Princess-like dress was not making things easy for her. It was long and she needed to pull it up so she wouldn't trip on it. This made her hold the railing with her left hand while the right one clutched on her dress. Her eyes were on the stairs. Nervous, she didn't realize that she had reached the last stair, she only came to her senses when a strong hand prevented her from falling. She found herself staring into a pair of brown eyes. His black hair was gelled back and his fairly white skin had no single wrinkle or blemish. He was very handsome and almost at par with the King. Mesmerized, she couldn't move away from his arms. He seemed to be lost in hers too. They stood so intimately close to each other. An earth moving growl erupted from somewhere else and drew out that feeling of fright from Summer again. Coming to her senses, she turned her face towards the source only to see an angry face of the king glaring at them. Fear came all over her face. Every wolf in the room could hear her frantic heart and smell her fear. She looked at him as if saying, 'Again? Are these people sure this man isn't an animal?' His face softened when he realized that he just let the same thing happen again twice in a row. He tried reaching out to Summer but she backed away. He frowned and looked at his cousin Macian who had a triumphant smile on his face. "I'll help her to her seat cousin! Otherwise you will only frighten the poor lady even more if you try to help her," Macian said. Taking advantage of the situation at hand, he wanted to annoy his cousin. "Behave yourself Macian! She is mine!" Lucian whispered through his teeth, trying to keep it as discreet as possible. Macian smirked again. "We both know she is not yet yours, cousin so let's not get ahead of ourselves, shall we!" he equally whispered. "You are holding my queen to be in such an intimate manner while your lady is right in the same room. Don't you think you are exceeding your limits?" Lucian spat. Macian smiled and as he was about to say something, the minister of palace affairs spoke first. "Your Highness and the Duke, we need to start the dinner." After he said that, Summer's eyes roamed the room and realized that there were many people than she anticipated. Her palms became sweaty as nervousness replaced the fear ignited by Lucian's growl. She looked at each face and her eyes fell on a red head with emerald green eyes who was blowing steam and glaring at her. Summer wondered whether she was one of the king's potentials! The lady was extremely beautiful and Summer felt that she lacked in comparison to this woman. Except that her face was plastic, Summer was no match to her beauty! The handsome guy who caught her before she fell, urged her with his hand on the small of her back. The room was actually not a room but a hall. There was a long dining table made from thick oak tree wood. It was shiny and had a few decorations in the middle. There were so many people around it. At the head was a huge chair and Summer already guessed who it belonged to. The handsome man, who she heard was called Macian and the king's cousin directed her towards the head of the table and showed her an empty chair on Lucian's right. He sat along with the red-head on Lucian's left. Summer felt that she didn't want to sit next to Lucian at all. She was restless and didn't even touch the food she was served. Her face was down as others ate. "Is Princess Summer perhaps not liking the food served to her?" one of the men present asked. This man was the minister of sports and recreation, Ryanair Stephenson. Lucian didn't like him because he was one of the people who were against human mates. He believed that they were lowly and didn't deserve to be paired with any supernatural. Lucian glared at him and turned to say something to Summer but his obnoxious cousin beat him to it, once again. "It is normal for Princess Summer to be nervous amongst so many people. I guess she is still composing herself, she will eat at her own pace, isn't that so Princess?" Macian asked with a smile. Summer looked at him, saw the warmness in his eyes and she nodded, smiling in the process. This gentleman had an effect on Summer. He seemed like a really nice guy. As her eyes wandered to Lucian's face, she saw a look of displeasure on it and she wished he was even a little bit as sympathetic as the handsome guy next to him.
