Elanor's POV
Everything, EVERY SINGLE f*****g THING, has been a mess since Aeolian was captured. How does one simply kidnap a creature the size of an SUV, beats me, but they did it, and ever since then, s**t has been going down like Constantinopol. When he was kidnapped, I remained stuck in this shitwhole. Even if it was an amazing place, by the seaside and very close to the forest, it was still a s**t place due to the whole situation. I was not welcome here. I've never been...
Of course, now, leaving the pack's perimeter is not an option anymore. Of course, leaving this cursed place was not something I could do, now that my mate had been kidnapped right from under our noses. Was I considered a complice? Of course I was! the kidnapers were known to be of my kind. Of my keen. And why was I a complice to this s**t fest? Because, apparently, to their little dog minds, I would kidnap my own mate and then trap myself here, like a restless animal, missing and worrying about him!
Marina, Aeolian's beta, has turned against me completely, and there was no member of the pack standing beside me. And while I was miserable, our friend, our vampire friend who did plenty to prove himself, Cassimir, was trapped here with me too. Feeding was rare and leaving the house was a state crime, apparently. Laura, my best friend, was here too, because she was considered to be a complice. Of course she was!
I felt like I was going crazy. It had been too long since this happened and there was no sign of getting in touch with any of Demetri's stupid helpers, or team, or creatures, or whatever he called them. The wolves did not manage to track down the path to Aeolian. How does a killing machine, with the most sensitive nose on Earth, not pick up the stench of death and decay, beats me. But I was not allowed to go out and see if they were wrong or not... so - f**k if I knew anything!
"You're going to carve a path into the floor if you keep pacing around like that for much longer. " Cassimir's voice pulls me back from my inner monologue and I raised my head to look at him, a bit surprised he was here.
How could he not be here.... I sigh gently and stop, pinching the bridge of my nose and leaning my head to the side. Cassian was almost always here. not just now, but in the past too. We shared a common past, and him and Aeolian somehow bonded over mutual hate and things they liked. Something not everyone was capable of, but these two were.
from his seat on one of the armchairs, the white haired man got up and walked to me. His hands skimmed over my arms and, for a moment , I felt uncomfortable. But he stops just above my elbows and gives me a good shake.
"I know you're worried. I know you are hungry and angry. I know, but we need to stay focused." he speaks clearly, but somehow the words do not reach me. I look up at him and feel like I'm in some sort of trance.
His usual red eyes are now a strange orangey color. Mainly because we are fed only animal meat and we are only allowed to hunt small mammals. Something Cassimir had never done before and his body was going through a small change. It suited him. He was also a bit slower, and maybe not as snarly and easy to piss off anymore. It was almost like this change helped him mature, just enough for him to finally grow the hell up. A dire situation none of us liked, but it seemed to have some upsides to it. I stare blankly at him and say nothing, and he sighs, letting go of me, both his hands dipping into his messy hair, pushing it backwards and exposing his face.
When the door opens, we both turn to it, our breaths hitched in our chests. Laura pauses in the doorframe, watching us a bit confused. When we realize it's only her, we both sigh and we part from each other. I walked to the window sill and took a seat on it, looking outside. The sun was setting slowly and people were getting ready to retreat to their homes, while we were still locked up in this room.
"Any news? " Cassimir asks as he falls back into his armchair.
I swear, we might freeze in these positions and become living statues at this point. My butt could grow literal roots on the sill...
"Not really. They say they'll let you both go hunting tonight... " she says as she closes the door behind her,
"Both of us together? " Cassimir seems as surprised as I was.
That had never really happened before. We were always separated, and always accompanied. Being sent together to hunt sounded a bit like a trap. But I was going to take it.
"Marina said she'd accompany you though... " Laura muttered as she sank into the nearby armchair, beside where Cassimir was sitting.
I watch them through the corner of my eyes. Oddly enough, these two had grown fairly close lately, and even if it was not truly bothering me, It was just mildly infuriating that they were having a good time, while I was growing insane, waiting to be allowed to do something and save my damn mate!
"Of course she will..." Cassimir muttered and leaned his head back, while Laura watched him then turned to look at me.
"Are you alright?" She asks me and gets up, cautiously approaching me.
Everyone has been a bit on edge when talking to me, and I can not blame them. I was walking on eggshells around myself too. When I turn to look at her, she pauses and hesitates. She might have been the only one bothering to ask this at this point. Was I alright ? I was not... I look down at the chipped moonstone and my ring and I feel my chest tighten. this was the ring Aeolian proposed to me. The man actually spent money and time on finding a ring for me. I loved it...
"It's been months... " I whisper and my voice cracks.
I had chipped the stone just a few days ago and this made me even more worried. I did not know how to handle my own emotions and thoughts and it was all coming down on me, making me feel more vulnerable, more alone and, above all else, worried and angry.
"It's been quite some time..." Laura agrees and comes to sit beside me on the sill, looking down at the view below us. "But we're here with you~" she starts and suddenly I don't want to listen her anymore, my brain blocking every single word that leaves her mouth. I was tired of being fed the same text over and over again, despite how grateful I was that she was here with me.
"Maybe we can track something while we hunt tonight. We'll be two. One of us can distract her, and the other-" Cassimir speaks, but soon swallows his words as we both hear footsteps approaching our room.
Not too long after, the door of the room opens, and the familiar red haired woman shows up. Her eyes are narrowed and she is as grumpy as ever. Her nose scrunches up with some sort of disgust, and at this point I'm not sure if she is faking it or not. She had been a terrible company lately and something within me had a hard time trusting her. Maybe it was because they were all constantly feeding her poison about us, about vampires, about me and Cassimir who did nothing but support and help, or maybe it was her own bitterness and pain that was seeping through and being nasty.
When I look up at her, she straightens her back and I see a hint of determination behind her eyes. She might not be very fond of me anymore, but she was determined to find Aeolian, just as much as I was. i could tell that from the way her eyes shimmered with courage and energy. And, right now, I was grateful to find an ally in this pack full of untrustworthy people.
