Days went by quite slow, but the new moon finally rolled around and We could not have been happier. Starting with tonight, we had seven full days to fulfill our goal. Retrieve Aeolian. It was our one and only goal right one. No revenge, no fighting, no throwing hands, no needless s**t. Just find and retrieve my mate. My love mate with shaggy hair and lovely blue eyes that reminded me of a cloudless sky.
Our mate link has never been strong enough for me to be certain what he felt or what he was going through, but with each passing day, I could feel him less and less. He was not doing fine, and I knew that. He was slowly losing himself to whatever was happening. He was slowly losing his faith and his humanity... and he was becoming a monster, as they all thought of him.
But I knew better. Aeolian was no monster, and whatever things they were throwing his way, he will not turn him into one. And if he did, then it was my mission to bring him back, just as he did with me all this time ago, when they had broken me to my very core. when I was nothing but a wild animal. He had found me at my worst and nurtured me with everything he had and was, back to myself. Oh, my dear kind and gentle mate..
As we walked through the forest and the lake came into sight, I felt my chest tighten and my senses heighten with my need of getting this done. We could all feel someone was near, we could all feel someone was watching us from behind the trees, we all knew it was here.
I'm the first one to step out in the clearing of the lake, slowly approaching the lake. I hear footsteps and before anything can jump out from the darkness of the forest, I raise my arms as a sign of peace.
"I'm not here to hurt you!" I immediately spoke up, my voice echoing in the small clearance.
"You're many!" a hiss like voice comes from multiple directions, making me feel a bit overwhelmed.
"We're many because you hurt me before!" I make sure to leave myself open enough to make a point, while Cassimir and Marina remain vigilant.
"why are you here again?" the voice asks me again, now the voice coming from somewhere behind me, making me feel even more exposed than I was.
"I wanted to talk!" I reply shortly. "You're a vampire, right? I'm a vampire too. And so is my friend-"
"And you have a mutt for a friend too!"
"That too. But she is my friend and we are here to help and ask for help..."
"Why would I need your help?!"
"Because you're alone. You're scared. You're hunting forest animals so close to a werewolf territory and you feel drained of energy and life. Because you've merely escaped with your life from that prison, haven't you?!"
Silence. There was nothing but the wind, howling through the trees and I felt the warm late summer air brush against my cheek with such a tenderness it startled me. My arms slowly drop at my side and as they do, I notice, through the corner of my eyes, someone approaching. They seemed human, they seemed smaller than expected. A woman. A skinny, scrawny, small woman, with a wobbly walk. Her hair was a mess, matted, a hay like color, much like mine. As she approached, I see she was wearing a torn hospital gown and something within me immediately empathized with her. When I hurry to her, she stops, her reddish eyes staring at me with distrust. I stop too and press my lips together. Bad move on my part.
Her arms wrap around herself and she seems to be pondering if she did a mistake or not. she watched me a while longer, with skeptic eyes, with narrowed brows and eventually decides this is the best distance to keep herself at.
"Why do you need help?" she asks, her voice now lower, sounding more broken than earlier.
"I need to find my mate-" I started, but she seemed to suddenly revolt.
"Mate?"
That was not a usual therm for a partner for vampires....Uf... here i go explaining s**t to people that might not believe me.
"My partner is a werewolf." I start and I see her press her arms tighter around herself in some sort of disbelief and denial. "And he has been kidnapped by those you escaped-" I continue, my voice lower, my words a bit slower, as if I did not want to hear this over again.
"And you think I am going to help you?" she snarls and her face grimaces in a strange way. "Do you truly believe I am going back to that place so YOU can get your mutt back?! That place is hell on earth! do you even know what they do to us there?!" she hisses at me and I see anger in her eyes. Her arms drop from around herself and her nails extend into talons. "Let me be straight with you, miss not going to hurt me! I am not going back. I am not getting in touch with those monsters again. I am not even going to look in their direction and ever think of them again!" she barks at me and before she can attack me, Cassimir jumps from the shadows and tackles her down. She fights back with all her might, but there was no overpowering Cassimir.
"Don't hurt her!" I yell and hurry to them.
Cassimir muttered something under his breath as I approach him. with his eyes narrowed, he continues to pin the struggling vampire down while I kneel by her side.
"I don't want you to come with us. I don't want you to fight for us. I want you to point me in that direction. I need you to show me where they are."
"What's in it for me?!" she hisses, almost spitting me.
"You'll be safe home. As soon as I retrieve my ante, you'll find a safe home in our pack-"
"And what makes you think that I want to live among mutts?!" she hisses, almost offended.
Now, I was the one offended. I took it personal. very personal. As a growl escapes me, Cassimir interferes.
"Because unlike vampires, mutts have a living beating heart that sometimes finds itself capable of acceptance and love."
I did not expect such words to ever come out of his mouth.
with round eyes, with sock written all over our faces, we both turn to look at him.
