Sage POV The funeral was bittersweet. Chase has been closed off, aloof since the death of his father. I can't blame him. A tragic accident like that, nobody could have seen coming. He has lost the only parent he has ever known and his mother, grief-stricken, or so she claims, has refused to attend the service, claiming she is too heartbroken to bear it. As the minister speaks, Chase stares down at the ground where the coffin is being placed, his shoulders hunched, a look of misery on his face, while I do everything in my power to be there for him as best I can given the unusual circumstances. My eyes scan the crowd and I notice, with a perplexed expression, that my own sister, Sapphire, is in the crowd, her head bowed in respect, her dress demure, a black headpiece sitting atop her hair.
