Rue’s POV
“Are you sure you want to go with them?” I heard him say from above me, this man that I have only just met! And he is already involved with almost all the embarrassing moments of my life. I wondered if he heard any of the conversations between me and the boys.
To answer his question, I nodded my head, and then I shook it. I was not sure what I wanted to do, or what would be the best thing for me.
Go with Adam and Luke and believe what they had not told me earlier or I go with a total stranger, someone who might be the end of me if he decides to take me into the midst of his friends who may be rogue hunters, forgetting that he and his current companion had saved my life when I thought all hope was lost.
“What exactly do you want to do? You are confusing me. Do you want to go with them or do you want me to continue to stay here?” he said looking confused with the folds between his brows...
He looked beautiful as I looked intently into his eyes for what seemed like a really long minute. His eyebrows were thick and full, doing their perfect job and marking their presence with elegance on his gracious face.
Oh damn and his eyes! I feel like I have been drawn by them and I'm being sucked in...
“Did you hear me?”
I jerked back into reality as he dismissed my thoughts and brought me to my senses. He had a way of making everything a center of attraction to him with his powerful voice.
I looked over at Luke and Adam at that moment, and what they were doing made me rethink immediately, they had this very devilish look on their faces, like they had things planned to do to me.
Then it occurred to me that they must have been lying just to get away with me and not look suspicious, I mean why didn’t they tell me this before? Why didn’t they let me know I was wanted back in the pack and that Riley had given the order when they started talking to me before they planned to r**e me?
How do I know if I am agreeing to the very thing that might kill me or force me to stay as a rejected slave? No one would rescue me if that were to happen.
“No… No I mean yes, I heard you. I don't want to go with them, I'd rather stay with you and your master. And even if you guys are rouge hunters and you choose to torture me or make me a slave, at least with that i’d still have your protection. I'd take that over going along with them. Though you look like an uptight person… and hard to please, but I still choose that over going with those two, I am not going back to that pack.” I sounded determined.
“Very well then” he said to me with a low voice this time as if he was trying not to scare me.
But wait! Did he just agree to torture me? Did we just have an agreement to make torture or servitude as a means of p*****t for helping me right now? Just who was this man anyway? I thought to myself all over again but then, it didn’t matter, he just said that because he wants me to know that he is with me in this and I'm sure he doesn’t mean that he'll take my words literally. But whatever, we will solve this later.
“Boys! You have to move from this premises” he said, back with his stone cold voice.
“Yes sir, we will move as you have said but we just need you to release the girl to us, and we will be good as gone” Adam spoke first
“She is not going with you” his voice chilled
“But sir, I thought you just agreed with us to let her go, why are you changing your mind all of a sudden?” I could see the visible annoyed facial expressions on their faces, and I was pleased.
“She just offered me something better. Now, both of you move before I lose my tolerance”
They seemed not to understand what he meant as they stood there still looking at him. Well, unable to move I would say.
But once he started moving towards them with so much menacing emphasis in every step he took, they started to run without looking back, guess I was not the only one scared of his physique.
After they left, I released my hold on his arm.. I wonder how he was not hurt by it, I looked up at him and said thank you, but instead of answering me he just gestured for me to follow him and I did.
“I thought you would have noticed by now that you can pass another way different from the muddy road, do you want to go through what you went through again?”
“Oh! I didn't think of it, thank you” I muttered as I followed him on the grass leveled path. How I did not even notice that there was another path to pass through was beyond my understanding.
It didn't take long to get to the cabin, the leveled grass made it faster than my first journey, I tried my best not to make any sound as I possibly could and I can say that must have calmed my mind a little bit because he didn't say anything to make me frightened either.
When he opened the door to the cabin, we were welcomed by the smell of something delicious that was being cooked. I'm not sure what delicacy it was but whatever it is, it definitely smells like a blessing from above.
It made me instantly hungry, I just realized that I had not eaten anything since the crappy breakfast I had yesterday.
“You are finally here, I thought to make some breakfast for you, you must be really hungry... “ The guy who was obviously the master said with a pan in his left hand and his right hand towards me, maybe for a shake “...My name is Marcel, what's yours?”
I stretched my hand towards him to accept his hand “My name is Rue”
“Rue?” he asked, smiling.
“Yes sir” I replied
I faced the man that came to save me “What about your name? You have not told me”
“I don't think we are close enough for me to tell you my name” he said dismissively
“But you just heard mine”
“I didn't ask you”
Ah, what an annoyingly arrogant man, I said to myself as I watched him walk over to the table and pull out a seat for himself.
Marcel sounded like the lively one. I had seen him laugh at least two times since I got here, something I have not seen the rigid man do. Marcel looked more approachable so I chose to sit in front of him during breakfast. I'd prefer to sit and stare, looking at his smiling face than to be stuck staring into the hard man’s face.
“So how did you find someone so loyal to work for you, I mean I can see that he does not smile with just anyone, he must be very loyal to you then.”
Marcel’s laugh came quite as a shock to me, I was not expecting it at all.
“Did I say something funny? Sorry, I didn't mean to”
“Oh no...no... It's just that you are misunder...”
“I tend to be loyal to anyone who puts a roof over my head and gives me food, and is assured of giving me their security” the hard man said, cutting Marcel off. I didn't even notice that he had been listening to our discussion because it didn't seem like it as he was just focusing on his own food.
“Oh, that's good, you should earn your keep” Marcel just kept laughing, making me feel like I'm on the right path now, like I am saying the right thing.
Before the rigid one replied me “Yeah, exactly! Just as you would earn yours”
