Why did I feel pain when I saw her crying? I felt a sharp pang of emotion in my chest, and my heart raced. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. I knew I shouldn't feel that way, but I couldn't help it. I felt deep sadness and guilt. Why was I feeling like this?
"Are you okay, Alex?" Maria asked. "I'm so worried."
"Yes. I'm okay, Maria," I replied. I kept thinking about her. My mate.
