Follow the Trail

After expecting a specific answer from John, John finally spoke up saying, “I heard Prof Liu and his department, after using a corpse for an experiment, the corpse came back to life,” John narrated. “You are exaggerating,” Davis replied as he adjusted on the bed. “Even if this is true, maybe they just revived someone,” Davis added. “You don’t revive someone that has died for a month plus,” John replied. “The dead they brought back to life has been in the morgue for a month plus before the experiment,” John added.

“Let us assume this rumor is true and the all-knowing Prof Liu and his department did this: where is the dead body that now lives so we can talk to him or her,” Davis said as he stands up from his bed. “That is the very reason I am telling you mehn,” John replied standing up from the bed. “The dead body has been locked up for a very long time and no one has been able to get in there,” John replied. “Dude if this is true and you have a way of proving this I don’t mind going anywhere with you,” Davis said to John as he held him by his shoulder.

During the dinner, Jessica walked up to Davis who sat on the same row with John, “I have been looking everywhere for you,” Jessica said to Davis as she sat close to him. “I have been around dear,” Davis replied. Immediately John cuts in, “Hello Bebe,” John said as he stretched his head to get a clear look at Jessica. “Look at you shining like stars,” John said as he smiles and winks at Jessica. “Hahaha!” Jessica laughs. “You can call me John, Bebe,” John said as he stretches out his hand to shake Jessica.

Davis was embarrassed and he quickly puts his head down, “Oh boy! You did not tell me you gat this fine Bebe all by yourself,” John said looking at Davis. “Dude, stop embarrassing me,” Davis whispered to John. “Mehn no one is embarrassing you,” John replied as he pokes Davis. “Hey guys, maybe we see some other time,” Jessica said as she stands up to leave, Davis gently held her hand saying: “You can spend time with us.” 

“Please…” Davis said in a low tone as he was starring at Jessica.

For a second thought, Jessica sat with them and enjoyed their dinner together; John kept on cracking some African Jokes. At a point, Jessica mentioned the rumor about the dead body raised by Prof Liu. “Why is everyone aware of this story except me?” Davis asked as he felt embarrassed. “The story is not new,” Jessica replied. “Even the students in their finals have been talking about it,” Jessica added. “You see,” John said to Davis. “I told you this s**t but you doubted,” John added.

“Since we are done for tonight, maybe we should go back to sleep and forget all this by morning like a nightmare,” Davis said looking at John and Jessica. “Mehn I must get to the bottom of this s**t,” John whispered. “I am out of here dude,” Davis said to John. Looking at Jessica, Davis said to her, “Are you coming?” “Oh! Sure,” Jessica replied as she joins Davis.

John never cared to follow them but sat back to enjoy his dinner as he looks around looking for his friend from Africa. “I think I am beginning to enjoy my stay here,” John said as he takes a bite from the chicken meat set before him. Not long enough he sighted his African friend, he carried his food to his table for more jest.

Jessica and Davis were walking down the hallway leading to the medical faculty as the two engaged in a series of discussions and getting to know each other. Jessica and Davis made their way into the medical faulty and sat close to the stage; suddenly, they heard people talking from the office of Prof Liu. They approached to peep from the glass door but the door seemed to be open halfway and they could be easily noticed.

Leaning on the wall, Jessica and Davis paid attention to the conversation as they overheard Prof Liu saying, “The new students are aware of the corpse.” “We should move fast now before the president of the school finds out and sue us all,” Prof Liu added. Jessica’s water bottle mistakenly hit on the wall as she was trying to adjust. Prof Liu on hearing the water bottle's sound asked, “Who is there?” Davis signaled Jessica to keep calm and follow him. They tiptoed and hid under the desk close to the stage.

Prof Liu with his partners stepped out and looked around but as they saw nothing they made their way out from the faculty. Unknowingly to Prof Liu and his partners, Jessica and Davis followed them. “Where do you think they are going?” Jessica whispered. “I don’t know but if this corpse experiment is real, I think I get to see it myself,” Davis whispered to Jessica as the two followed Prof Liu and his partners.

After a long-distance walk into the woods near the staff quarters, Prof Liu and his partners entered a cabin. Jessica and Davis hid in the bushes as they wait for Prof Liu and his team to come out.

After minutes of waiting, Jessica said to Davis, “They are taking too long to come out.” “We should go check it out,” Jessica added. “No,” Davis whispered. “It is not safe walking in there blind. We don't even know what is going on in there,” Davis replied as he tried to get his head up the door of the cabin was opened, Davis quickly puts down his head. “Prof Liu is out,” Davis whispered to Jessica. “What is he doing?” Jessica whispered back. “He is taking a pee,” Davis replied. On hearing this Jessica laughs as she held her mouth. “What type of man leaves the comfort of his office restroom to take a pee in a place like this?” Jessica rhetorically asked as she laughs quietly. "A desperate one," Davis replied with a glance at Jessica.
