Confession

Stella        I woke up to the sunlight hitting my face. I sat up on my bed groaning in pain. My back was killing me and my mouth fell like it was burning. I also had a splitting headache.    “Mom" I croaked while getting off my bed. I had very little energy, if none at all. What happened earlier took it all. I walked towards the door and fell on the floor on my way there. My body felt like it was attacking me from the inside and it made me sob.      "Mom!" I could finally let my voice heard, when I saw mom coming up the stairs in a hurry.    “Oh, my baby! How are you feeling? What are you doing on the floor?" she asked, picking me up and taking me back to my bed. "You need to rest. Your energy has been drained"      "Mom, I'm hurting" I said with tears flowing from my eyes.     “I know sweetheart, it was hard for me to see you like that. But it's over now" she said tucking me back in. It was the most torturous and painful moment of my life and I am grateful that my parents had let me known what to expect beforehand.     “I am going downstairs to make breakfast so you can regain all your energy" mom said walking out and heading downstairs.     I was lying in my bed when dad came in later with a tray in his hands. "Here sweetheart, Mom made you your favorite for breakfast" he said, handing me the tray with a ham and cheese omelet and some breakfast potatoes on the side, along with a big glass of cranberry juice, my favorite.     “Thank you dad" I tried to take a bite, but spat it out right away.    "What's wrong? These are your favorite" he said, taking the tray away from me.   “I'm sorry dad, but that doesn't taste good today" I replied trying to drink the juice but it tasted horrible too. He took the juice too and went to the kitchen. Minutes later he came with a plate with a big raw steak.     The smell had me drooling. "Here, enjoy this" he said handing it to me. I ate the food without hesitation. This was so weird, eating a raw steak for breakfast when I used to love eggs and potatoes. Or maybe it was just the phase of the transformation.   "How did you know what to bring?" I asked curiously with my mouth full. Dad raised his eyebrows and I quickly swallowed the food before speaking again.      “We have been dealing with your kind for years" dad said. I was shocked by his confession.      “What do you mean dad?" I asked hesitantly. He took my plate away after I was done eating, sat closer to me and took my hands in his.    "Your mom and I... we were hunters. We were the best hunters the human world had. We used to track and kill every Gargoyle we found," he said with tears in his eyes. "After we saw how innocent they were, your mom and I called it quits and left their kingdom. After all, we were the intruders, and they were just protecting themselves. We lived a normal life, although it still haunts us to this day".       "What made you hunt them down?" I asked, still curious. I needed to know the whole story to understand who I was.      “Many years ago, they had attacked our city. I was pretty sure they were looking for one of their own. My grandfather was a hunter back then and he told me they had found a magical portal, and from that day they have kept going in and exploring that world. They have found their kingdom, called Gargodom, and had taken one of their babies".      “That's horrible. Why would they do that?"     “They wanted to find out what kind of beasts they were. They experimented with their offspring and it didn't survive" he tried to explain with shame showing on his face "Please sweetheart, don't hate us. We were just doing our job, we always thought they were the monsters. While in fact we were the monsters. They were just living a peaceful life".      “I would never hate you dad. It does hurt that you and mom would be a part of that, but fate had other plans for you. You raised me and loved me as your daughter even though you knew where I came from" I said trying to reassure him.    I took his hands and kissed them in appreciation, "You are the best parents any girl could ask for. I love you both".       “We love you too, baby girl. You are a treasure to us since we couldn't have kids. It was fate" he said hugging me.      We heard a knock on the door, and it was mom. She came in and sat down next to me. "Are you feeling better, honey?" she asked.     “A little better. The breakfast dad brought kind of took my pain away and gave me a little more energy, although I still feel a little tired" I replied, smiling at her.      "Let me check your back," mom said, lifting my top and checking for any bruises "I don't see any signs of what happened earlier, that is weird"     “Maybe she can heal after the transformation" dad said. Mom checked my mouth and there was still no sign of my fangs. But after checking my eyes, she noticed a streak of violet across them.    “That must be Alina there" she said with a big smile, confusing me.     “Alina? Who is she?" I asked.     “She is your Gargoyle" dad replied with a big smile "And she is just as beautiful as you are, my princess".     Mom walked to my dresser and pulled out a locket from one of my drawers. I never knew it was there, it was well hidden. "This locket was on your neck when we found you. Your parents must have left it for you to remember them"      I opened the locket and saw two names: Ulric and Alianor     "Are these them?" I asked while my heart pounded against my chest. Mom nodded and got closer to see my eyes.         “Your eyes have changed colors. You still have the hazel eyes, but there's a hint of violet you had when you turned" she said looking closely "You are unique, one of a kind. You are royalty".      I smiled at them, but on the inside I was scared. What would be waiting for me? What am I meant to do and what purpose will I serve now?
