Mrs. Eckel had asked me to come see her in her office during my short break, she had something important to talk about. I didn’t know what but I would soon find out. “Come in,” her voice calls from inside the room. Amber walks into the principal’s office that was adorned with trophies in glass cabinets on her walls, school team banners with her desk facing the door with two guest chairs next to her desk. “Good morning Mrs. Eckel,” I greet as I stand before her, she stretches out her hand for me to shake which I do. The principal smiles at me sweetly before asking me to take a seat. “I asked you here today Ms. Aldrich to talk about something,” she began bringing her two hands together before her, “but before we start, how are things going ever since you got elected as school president?” Mrs. Eckel asks Amber in a warm voice. “Well Ma’am things are going well, it’s only been a couple weeks… I mean three to be exact and I’m loving it. I just hope I’ll be able to fulfill all my duties and responsibilities as times go by. I won’t fail you and the student body Mrs. Eckel,” Amber says in a firm voice. She had vowed to herself to be one of the best student leaders and be able to accomplish her many campaign promises. She had the time, power and resources and she would utilize them to make this year a successful one. “I believe in you Ms. Aldrich,” Mrs. Eckel says, “and so do the students too since you won with a landslide. If you encounter any obstacles, my door is always open for you, OK?” “Thank you Mrs. Eckel. That means a lot…Thank you.” “Anyway Ms. Aldrich I called you for an entirely different reason,” the principal says her voice taking a serious tone, “In two weeks times we’ll be having a new student reporting to our school.” “Ok Mrs. Eckel, how can I help Ma’am,” Amber asks. “Her name is Alexandra Dalia Lenaolars. She’s enrolled in your year and I wanted you to help her settle down. Help her catch up with her studies too,” Mrs. Eckel asks Amber while scanning through the papers in front her. Those forms had to be the new girl’s registration papers. “Yes Ma’am I’ll be happy to help her out Ma’am.” “Thank you Ms. Aldrich, just make sure she feels welcomed and taken care of, her family is one of our big contributors just like yours Amber.” “Don’t worry Ma’am I’ll help her settle down and look out for her.” “Thank you Ms. Aldrich, that’s all I wanted to discuss with you can go back to your short break you still have a few minutes left,” the principal says looking at her watch. Amber gets ups and bids farewell to the principal. Walking out of the office she heads to the cafeteria checking her wrist watch to see she only had ten minutes to spare before her AP English class. “Hey!” Jude calls startling Amber from behind. “You waited for me?” she asks looking at him. Jude nods and they both make their way to their friends. “Hey, what took you guys so long,” Diana Rose asks handing her a bag of chips and a water bottle. “Mrs. Eckel needed to talk to about something,” Amber answers as she open her tomato ketchup chips to eat. Jude settles beside her quietly stealing her chips whenever she wasn’t looking. They were her absolute favorite and was grateful her best friend got her one. “What about?” Daniella her other friend asks. “Well in two weeks we’ll be having a new girl coming in and Mrs. Eckel wanted me to take care of her till she settled in.” “Cool so we’ll have an additional new friend. That’s nice,” Caroline said in a giddy voice, “can I help you out with that Amber?” she asks me in an expectant voice. “What…but aren’t you always shy with people you don’t know,” Jude says snickering at Caroline. “Are not!” “Are too,” James answers finally butting in on the conversation, “you always do weird s**t Caroline.” “Language!” The three girls shout at James who rolls his eyes at them. “Oh shut it…I’m not weird,” Caroline answers sharply at his response, “Looks who’s talking calling me weird. Pot calling the kettle black obvious much.” “You wish,” James answers smugly agitating Caroline more, those two never got tired of this always bickering back and forth since the fifth grade. I mean you’d think they’d grow out of it but no! Every day came with a new topic of disagreement for the two. “Come on guys quit it!” Rose says getting up with her apple in hand, “the bell is about to ring. Come on James we have chemistry,” she says picking her bag. Amber straightens her uniform with the others in tow. “We’ll see you guys at lunch,” Amber says getting up to discard of her chip’s bag. She takes her water bottle and heads out of the cafeteria with her other two friends. She shared the English class with Jude but Caroline headed off to her music class. “Hey Jude, I’ll see you in class. I have to go to pick my English books in my locker.” “I could go with you,” Jude says smiling at me. “No it’s fine,” I say smiling at Jude, “I don’t want you getting in trouble the end of short break bell is about to ring Jude. Just go,” Amber says before walking away. “But…” Jude is about to argue but Amber already turns around. Sometimes Jude could be suffocating, especially since the incident, he’d been hovering around her so much it was starting to irritate her even Luke wasn’t that much. Thanks so much Matt. As she was removing her books, Amber feels a figure lingering behind her before his cologne attacks her nostril. “Hey babe,” Luke greets kissing Amber’s head, “I miss you a lot babe.” Luke says her arms circling around her waist. Luke nuzzles his head in her neck placing open mouthed kisses. “Hello Luke,” Amber greets back before turning to look at him. “Let’s go out tonight babe,” Luke says kissing Amber’s nose gently, “Lemme take you out tonight baby.” By the number of times Luke called her babe she almost believed Luke never knew her name. Luke continues with her ministration but the school bell rings cutting him off. Amber was not one for PDA but her boyfriend seemed to not get her but she felt relieved with lack of souls lurking the hallways. “Luke you need to get to class or you’ll be marked absent.” “I don’t care babe… so about tonight wha…” “Well I do care and you need to be in class I don’t want to write you up for detention but you are forcing my hands Luke.” “Come on babe, can you not be the school president for a f*****g second and be my girlfriend.” “Well Luke I can’t today I have a meeting after my classes and it may take long and afterwards dinner with my parents plus I have homework too so…I’m fully booked today Luke maybe later Ok.” “Yeah whatever Amber,” Luke says storming away mad. The day goes by smoothly apart from Luke giving Amber the cold shoulder. She understood him too, the past few weeks had been a rollercoaster for their relationship. Amber was always busy with school meetings and also the student body took her time too. She was happy to have Diana Rose and James in the student body because they helped her a lot. “How was school bunny,” her dad asks as she makes her way to him. She greets her dad with a kiss on the cheek and walks straight to fridge for some watermelon slices and peanut butter. It was an odd snack mix but it worked wonders as a stress reliever. “It was pretty good dad,” Amber says placing her school bag on the large island and settles on of the high stools, “the principal called me to her officer today.” “What for? Nothing bad I hope?” Mr. Anthony says setting the oven, tonight they were having baked potatoes and……. “Amber’s never even gotten a detention dad,” Matthew says as he enters the kitchen and walks to the fridge and takes out a water bottle, “she’s the school president after all. She serves them detentions too plus the principal loves her.” “Oh can it Matt.” Amber says biting into her peanut butter coated watermelon. “My little bunny is Ms. President. I always keep forgetting that,” Mr. Anthony says kissing her daughter’s head lovingly. “Hey what about me, I’m co-captain for my lacrosse team,” Matt says pouting at her father and sister. “Aaw someone’s feeling a little neglected,” Ambers says taunting her brother and sticking her tongue out. Matt does the same but Ambers gets up tackling her brother with a bear hug. “Oh ouch get off me A.” “Come on Kids get off the floor, your mother won’t be too pleased to find you down there,” their father says but the two sibling are too caught up in their laughter and giggles to listen to him. Despite being 17 and 19 years old respectively they always acted as mere toddlers around each other. “Honey in here!” Mr. Anthony calls out and this enough for the two siblings to briskly pick themselves off the floor. Mr. Anthony laughs hard as his two children try to straighten their appearances. “Works wonders every time,” Mr. Anthony says staring at his son and daughter who were the least pleased with him. “Ok go freshen up I’ll call you down for dinner as soon as your mom gets home.” The two walk out of the kitchen playfully shoving each other. “Amber come get your bag!” Mr. Anthony shouts, “Why do I always have to keep reminding you. It’s your school bag bunny,” he finishes taking and pinches her cheeks lightly.
