Two days later, he was finally discharged. Accompanied by his little sister, Sophia, Ernest prepared to go home.
On their way to their home, riding a carriage. Ernest’s system prompted new interfaces in front of him.
[Congratulations on completing your quest titled: Demonstration of your new self.]
[Rewards received, 3,000 experience points, 10 status points, and two luxury boxes.]
Ernest invested five points on his strength and five points in his agility. The moment he confirmed, he felt something creeping inside of him, it was refreshing.
Another message prompted again.
[Congratulations! Your level has risen to level 26. Four levels left before integration.]
Integration? Ernest pondered that word. He knew the meaning of the word but he’s puzzled by its effect. Well, there are only four levels remaining so he might as well reach it and find out.
The two luxury boxes. It sounded so magnificent that it attracted his attention. Without further ado, he opened it with his eyes closed. He doesn’t want to see that strength and agility enhancing potion.
Please, Lord! Give me weapons!
His current weapon, Traveler’s Handy Sword, shattered from the fight against Christine. It was to be expected since he used a powerful spell on the blade it can’t possibly maintain. Now that he is swordless, he began chanting prayers to all the Gods he knew, wishing for a weapon.
-Ching.
With a sound similar to a bell chiming, he slowly opened his eyes and saw a dazzling sword.
[Congratulations! You received Galatine. Divine Rarity.]
“Galatine…”
Ernest repeated, amazed by its name.
[Created by the lady of the lake to Sir Gawain. Often seen as the “shadow to Excalibur light”. At the same time, its strength is said to be the greatest when there is ample sunlight.]
[New powers acquired. Excalibur Galatine - Mana costs 90% of the user’s current mana. The user gathers the rays of the sun into a concentrated beam of energy that can be released at will.]
[When using Galatine, all fire-based attack and magic will increase to 50%]
‘That’s way too cool! I have an overpowered sword right at the start?! Well, I can’t wait to try it out.’
Another message prompted again. It was his second box opening and he opened it without hesitation. Excited at his second reward.
It chimed.
[Congratulations! You received 50,000 gold coins!]
‘Another gold coins again?’ Ernest recalled that he was receiving too many gold coins without even knowing its purpose. No, he knows the purpose, it was just buying stuff from the system shop but he didn’t try it. Maybe
‘Okay, I’ll try it at home.’
Upon deciding that, Sophia, who was sitting beside him, nagged him.
“What is it, Sophia?”
“Brother, we have a visitor in our house…”
“What? Who?”
Ernest was visited by a number of people from powerful guilds. Why are they visiting him? The awakening matter was solved by the magic orb but why are they still not stopping?
“It’s a girl.” Sophia said, pouting, “Brother, I thought you have me? I thought I’m the only girl that you want…Ouch.”
Ernest smacked her lightly in the head, “I don’t have any if you’re concerned. And the way you word it sounded like an...You know what never mind. Who’s the girl anyway? As far as I can remember, I don’t have any…As I'm not popular, to begin with.”
Recalling his friend list of girls, Ernest suddenly realized one name. Christine?
‘Oh there’s no way, she's royalty. There’s no way for her to affiliate herself to the likes of me.’
“I don’t know. She refuses to give her name. But she gave me one clue.”
“Clue?”
“Brother, next week is the due date of my tuition fee right?”
“Ah about that...I have the money. Don’t worry, I’ll give the money to you tomorrow.”
At this moment, Ernest remembered that Christine promised to pay her sister’s tuition fee. But there’s no way she’ll actually do it. I mean she's royalty. Why would she heed a request from a commoner? Maybe her words back there were simply for closure. She’ll not associate with a commoner. It’ll bring disgrace to her dignity.
‘Well, I hope that she’d pay my sister's tuition fee...I mean royalty are not going back with their words right?’
“No brother! I was contacted by the admission and told me that my tuition is fully paid! Covering my next sem and the next school year.”
Ernest gaped. He stiffly turned his head towards Sophia who just told him a miracle. Did someone just pay her tuition for the next sem and for the next year? How generous of that person…
‘Wait, does that mean Christine actually paid his little sister’s tuition?’
“And she’s the one who is waiting at our home. She told me that she will wait for us outside.”
Ernest doesn’t know anymore. His sister's tuition getting paid and an audience to the third princess of the Kingdom of Cryoliniese?
He reflexively fixed his clothes and hair.
“Brother? What’s wrong? Do you perhaps know the person visiting us?”
“Well, kind of…” Ernest let out a forced chuckle as he rubbed his head.
‘This is sudden! Why didn’t she tell me that she was coming? I could’ve prepared at least. Shit...how can I face a princess of our nation with this plain t-shirt and pants?’
Fifteen minutes later.
The taxi arrived in front of their house. On the other side of the street, there was a parked white limousine. Ernest, looking perturbed, slowly looked around through the windows. On their doorstep, there was a beautiful girl in a black shoulderless top with sleeves, and a long red and white skirt. Her arms are folded, tapping the ground with her red pump. It seems as though she was waiting here for hours.
Then as Christine saw the taxi they were riding, her eyes peered through the window. At that moment, their eyes met.
Seeing that, Christine let out a radiant smile and waved her hand at Ernest.
Ernest slightly blushed. ‘s**t! She’s too beautiful...wait she’s really here? What the hell, I’m too embarrassed to go out.’
“Brother isn’t that the third princess of Cryoliniese?”
“Hehehe...who knows. I don’t know any of the royalties.” Ernest evaded, she’ll be surprised if he were to tell her about the third princess being his friend.
Looking to his right, Sophia who was sitting beside her was gone. Ernest began to look around, only to find out she was kneeling in front of Christine.
Seeing that, Ernest paid their fare and got out. He then ambled towards Christine and joined her.
“Uhm...Your highness? It’s a surprise to see you here…”
After hearing that, Christine pressed her lips together, looking somewhat annoyed.
“Why are you addressing me formally like that? I thought you’re my friend? Stand up…”
“What?! Brother the third princess is your friend?”
“Yeah...kind of…”
Ernest let out a stiff smile, there’s no way he could avoid his situation now.
“What?! No way! Your Highness! I’m a big fan of yours. After seeing your entrance examination where you applied to be an adventurer. I was amazed! It’s an honor to meet you in person…”
Seems like Sophia is knowledgeable when it comes to the names of the royalty, compared to Ernest who doesn’t even care.
A die-hard fan? This is the first time he heard her little sister elated.
“Uhm...I think it’s not befitting for royalty to stand outside, I think we should go inside?”
With that, Ernest swiftly walked towards the door and opened it with a key. Then he beckoned them to enter. Sophia entered first followed by Sophia who was pulling a suitcase. Her lilac-purple hair trailed like a shooting star. The sweet aroma from her hair wafted around her and struck his nose.
‘She smells good...Ah, f**k… be calm my beating heart…’
Letting out a sigh, Ernest entered and closed the door behind him.
Thankfully, Sophia was a tidy person. She always makes the house look clean and good, pleasant enough for visitors. As they strode inside the house, Ernest covertly fixed his eyes onto Christine, observing her subtle reaction. If she were to find something unsightly, then he’ll succumb to complete embarrassment.
But luckily, there was none. The three of them took a rest in the living room.
“Okay, I’ll get some drinks. Uhm...your highness...what would you like? We have orange juice but I don’t think it will suit your taste…”
“Don’t worry, I love orange juice! And please, call me Christine.”
“But how can I address someone like you too friendly? It’ll be disrespec—”
“What’s your name?” Christine interrupted.
“I’m Sophia...Sophia Teucher…” Sophia’s face was all red.
“Sophia?” Christine nodded lightly, “You have a pretty name...Please for now call me Christine. I’m only seventeen years old and I hate when someone is calling me too formal.”
“Eh...Is...that...so?..I’m very sorry! I’ll call you Christ...Christine for now! Please excuse me.”
Sophia dashed towards the kitchen and prepared their snacks and drinks. Leaving Christine and Ernest behind.
With that, Ernest took the opportunity.
“Christine...what are you doing here? And what’s with that luggage?”
“Ah, this? Well, I figured that as your servant, I shall live near my master…”
“Live?..wha-what do you mean?”
Christine pouted, her face beet red. “I’m living here from now on! As your slave, I need to take care of my master...This is our bet, right?”
Ernest’s eyes widened, “Wha...what? No way...there’s no way you can live here...It’s impossible.”
“Why aren’t you happy?”
“Ehhh…” Ernest paused and looked at Christine’s teary eyes. It seems as though she’s dying inside in embarrassment.
‘Eh? What did I do wrong? Why is she crying?’
“I made an effort to prepare my luggage and my outfit...and you’ll treat me like this? I thought we were friends? Ernest, you’re terrible! Horrible!”
“What? Of course, we are friends! I’m just concerned about you. It’s not like I’m not against you living here. I mean who wouldn’t? A beautiful woman like you who wants to live in my house? Of course, I’ll gladly agree but I’m just concerned that your life here might be different from the palace.”
“So does that mean...that I’m okay to live here with you?”
“Of course! Please live with me.”
Ernest had no choice but to agree, Christine's face changed. She was smirking and then protruding her lips out her mouth childishly.
“Thank you!”
“What?”
Too late, Ernest realized, but it’s too late. How dare she use a cheat skill called Barnum Effect? How could she betray his feelings two times?! This girl is a monster.
…
Six hours later. It was past midnight. Ernest told Sophia about Christine living in their house on which she approved. But the problem now is where will she sleep?
It’s the issue that he is currently facing. She could sleep in his room and sleep on the couch in the living room. Well, this is the time where he has to act gentlemanly.
With that, he approached Christine who was still recuperating in his house. But her droopy eyes told him that she is feeling sleepy.
“Uhm Christine...you can sleep in my bedroom if you want. Don’t worry, it’s not dirty. I cleaned it meticulously.”
“Eh? Where will you sleep?”
“I can sleep on the couch.”
“What? No way, I’ll sleep on the couch instead. I’m your slave right?”
After saying that, Christine rested her body on the couch. And closed her eyes.
“There’s no way I will treat you like a literal slave. So get up there or else…”
“Or else what?”
“I’ll carry you towards my bed…”
“Oh? Can you do it?”
“You’re challenging me huh?”
Ernest immediately slipped his arms under her and carried her like a princess. This startled Christine who was pretending asleep.
‘She’s so soft and smells nice…’ With his face beet red, he steeled himself not to look at her.
Christine on the other hand didn’t do anything to resist. It seems as though she wants it. She let him carry her all the way to his bedroom.
Arriving at his bedroom, Ernest carefully put Christine on the bed. He pulled the blanket and covered her.
“Listen to me...you’re my slave, right? So you need to follow my orders without question or else...I’ll punish you.”
Christine shrieked as she crept back and wrapped herself in a blanket.
“Ernest...you pervert...I hate you…”
Ernest smiled, “Don’t worry, I won’t do anything to you so rest assured.”
“Really?”
“Christine, I’m a decent human being. You can trust me on that.” Ernest said softly.
Christine felt assured after hearing that. She returned to the bed and prepared to sleep.
“Ernest...what are you going to do tomorrow?”
“I’m going to practice and exercise at six in the morning. Do you want to join me?”
“I would love to…”
“Then I’ll wake you up at five. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
Ernest left the room and closed the door as he left.
