I looked down at my feet, gazing at the expensive heels I got for my wedding. I had no choice but to run into a store I found close to Rizzo Bar. I saw a young lady dusting the tables.
It was still really early in the morning, "Good morning, ma'am," I greeted them and cleared my throat; she gazed at me as if she were staring at a clown. I looked down at myself and chuckled softly, I was indeed looking like a clown.
Earlier, when I woke up, I found my wedding dress and Mr. Rizzo's suit on the floor. So, instead of putting back on my gown, I wore his suit, excluding the jacket. His shoes weren't fitting, and I sensed that he would soon be done in the bathroom, so I chose to run out, wearing my heels before he could finish bathing.
Appearing in front of her this early, without properly buttoning the sleeve and without combing my hair, I looked unkempt especially.
"Can I sell these shoes ma'am for a cheaper price, I need the money" I said and took them off before placing the shoes on the desk that she just cleaned.
"How much is their worth?" She asked. I cleared my throat and said, sternly,
"I got it for 800USD, but I'm selling it for 600USD"
"What? That's too much. besides, it's no longer new; that's what you're wearing right now!" She said, causing me to narrow my eyes, regretting why I didn't say 700USD at first, that might increase the chance of selling it at a much better price.
"How much are you willing to take it then?" I asked.
"150USD," She said causing my eyes to widen in shock,
"What do you mean 150USD, I bought these shoes for 800USD and I've only worn them once," I said with a frown on my face.
"That's how much I've got ma'am," She said, causing me to growl in frustration.
"Okay, let me sell it for you for 300, but this is only because I need money badly." I tried to bargain with her, but she refused to go any higher than 150.
"No, ma'am, nothing above 150 USD," The lady said, causing me to face-slap myself. That was new, but at the moment, I had no choice but to take the money so I could take the train to my grandma's home on the outskirts of the town.
"Okay, but then you give me scandals and the 150 USD," I said.
"Deal!" The lady responded and bent down to take one of the sandals that she kept in a box. It was looking worn out, and I instantly knew that no customer wanted to purchase it; that's probably the reason why it's still in the shop.
She counted 150 USD in change and passed it to me. I snarled, having no choice, I took the scandals from her and walked out of the store. I made sure I was cautious because this store was close to Rizzo's pub.
I got into a train and sat alone by the end, patiently waiting. My thoughts traveled far and near as I thought of the possibility of Rizzo finding me in his suits. I didn't want to go around wearing a wedding dress.
After hours, I finally got to my grandma's small town on the outskirts of the city. I hailed for a cab that took me straight to my grandma's house. It's been quite a long since I came here, and not much has changed since.
I walked towards the front door of the house and knocked.
"Who is it?" My grandmother asked from inside the house. I stepped back a little, waiting for her to peep through the small door hole to see that I was standing right in front of her door.
"Laura!" She gasped and opened the door, stunned to see me.
"Grandma!" I said and pulled her in for a hug, she immediately embraced me and said,
"Laura, you didn't inform me that you'll be coming to see me," She said, looking stunned and glad at the same time.
"I just wanted to surprise you" I lied. Not only did I not have any money on me yesterday but I left my phone in the dressing room of the hall where I was supposed to get married.
"Oh, dear child. Come in!" She said and opened the door properly for me to step into the house. This would be the last place that Anna would think I'd be, I just wanted to lay low for a while.
"Go in and freshen up while I fix you something to eat" As if she was reading my thoughts. I was famished. I walked into my mother's room in the house, it was a bit dusty but I planned on cleaning it when I've settled down.
After having my bath, I opened the wardrobe and took out a yellow dress, without thinking much about it, I wore the clothes and tossed the suit to the corner.
As I sat at the dining table, waiting for my grandma to dish me my food, I heard her yell from the kitchen.
"Laura, I need a hand here," She said. I stood to my feet and walked to the kitchen; I sighed, seeing that she had everything under control and all she needed was my company.
"So how did you get that suit you were putting on?" My grandma asked telling me to arch my brows,
"What do you mean?" I acted innocent.
"That suit is very expensive Laura, I know you wouldn't get it for yourself if you're thinking of that as a lie," My grandma said.
I sighed, realizing that she was already suspecting something, "I'll talk over dinner," I said, causing her to nod her head before letting me go.
I walked back to the dining table, feeling tired, I sighed and said, "Alex finally proposed but in a small way, just between the two of us only for him to bring in dad's stepdaughter and my best friend as his bride, not me" I explained in a few words.
My grandma shook her head and said, "I never trusted Alex, and neither did I ever like Anna. I think they're a match, two bad people." I furrowed my brows, feeling sad, but I just couldn't question my grandma.
"What about the suit?" She asked, causing me to look away.
"Young later, I know it's not for Alex, if it was, you wouldn't have hesitated to tell me." She said, As I parted my lips to speak, we suddenly heard an abrupt knock on the door.
I stood to my feet, abandoning the food on the table. I whispered, "Who could that be?"
"I don't know" My grandma responded as she stood up.
Knock! Knock!
This time, it was gentle. My grandma peeped through the hole and turned to me, she gestured for me to peep through the hole. I leaned forward and caught sight of a young man standing right in front of the door, alone.
My grandma opened the door; a gentleman holding a briefcase bowed slightly and greeted, "Good morning, ma'am." I looked ahead of him to see if he came with any vehicle and my eyes instantly fell on the Porsche, parked by the road.
"Good morning. Is anything the matter young man? How are you looking for someone?" My grandma asked.
"Yes, may I? I have a message for your daughter." He said, causing my grandma to turn to me.
"What kind of message is that?" The old lady asked, confused
"It's a message from Mr. Rizzo.”
