KARA
“Excellent.” The instructor reluctantly complimented me after I summarized everything she had ‘taught,’ including yesterday’s lessons. She randomly asked me to summarize what I had learned so far after a chapter ended, and I did as I was told with complete preparation.
I was required to take up lessons about the history of the pack, the proper etiquette of a Luna, and all other things that should have been taught to me before the wedding as part of the tradition, but who cares about custom when they literally announced our wedding the first day Dominic and I met. They only adhered to those to the extent that it would benefit them.
“Thank you.” I forced a smile and ignored that she obviously couldn’t believe I was able to keep up with her lessons. Obviously, she didn’t even intend to teach me and just wanted to berate me.
Instead of teaching, she info dumps me, barely giving me any time to absorb what she’s spouting about through every two hours of lessons. I’m unsure if she just wanted me to fail miserably or thought I was not worth her time. Either way, I’m determined to prove her wrong.
Right after the first lesson, I asked Lucy if I could get a copy of the books the instructor was using. Lucy probably knew what was happening and readily provided me with five books, and I studied almost all night. With Alpha Dominic not around, I could use the room as I pleased.
I learned more about reading than anything she dumped on me, and I could even discuss seven chapters ahead of her. I prepared as much in case she asked something we hadn’t addressed yet. I’ve definitely gone overboard, but I’m not regretting anything.
As I was informed, the Alpha hasn’t returned from his venture yet. All I could do was stay put whenever I didn’t have something I was scheduled to do. Aside from taking lessons, I was also taught about the house’s interiors for some reason, and they let me meet the inner circle members. I’ve met two people in the course of two days, and I assume there will be more.
I didn’t question them why and simply absorbed everything they taught. After all, keeping myself busy was my only ticket away from insanity. Besides, the other instructor isn’t as bad as this woman, so it’s bearable. Maybe I’ll be able to find more agreeable people here in the future. Lucy was right. If I didn’t fight, even in my own way, this place would get to me. They weren’t doing anything to me, at least not physically, but their stares alone made me want to curl into nothingness.
She cleared her throat and put down the book. “I’ll dismiss you early.”
The woman left without even sparing a glance. Lucy entered the study room with a knowing grin. I’ve seen her roll her eyes after crossing paths with her before the lessons. I’m guessing she’s also pissed off at her. I can’t blame her. Even the calmest people could get annoyed with that kind of narcissistic attitude.
“It seems like Madame Karin took a liking to you, Luna Kara.” She uttered with a straight face after a few moments, simply waiting for the woman to leave far enough that an average werewolf could hear.
I stifled a laugh, “I’m simply following your advice. Thank you for stepping in yesterday. I really appreciate it.”
While Lucy makes sure to set boundaries between us, I still feel like I made a friend. With my circumstances, I barely had people talking to me. I already take this as a win.
“But I wasn’t expecting that you’d study all night. You’re also very well-spoken. You can go far with that kind of confidence.” Her compliments made all of this more fulfilling.
I stood from my seat and tidied up the notes that I had all done last night. “My lifelong dream is to become a teacher. I wanted to teach children without discrimination or care about their social standing. As long as they are willing to learn, I’m ready to go to lengths to help. Maybe that’s why I’m too engrossed in it to show to her that I could be something.” I uttered with a small smile. Maybe in the future, I could reach that dream. For now, I have to do what I can for Lianne and me.
Lucy responded, but I suddenly couldn’t hear what she was talking about. My mind blanked out, and all I could think about was Dominic. I rushed outside, not having the time to explain. Lucy followed me, but I didn’t speak until I found Alpha Dominic.
The scent of blood quickly hit my senses after meeting him halfway in the hallway. He was heavily injured, nothing vital, but it seemed all deep cuts.
Behind him was the pack doctor, trying to convince him to stop for a moment so his wounds could be mended. He looked at me with a bit of surprise in his eyes. Dominic must be wondering how I’d know that he was already here. Even regular werewolves don’t have that sharp sense. The pack house is huge, and they’ll only notice if they are close enough, but I came from the far end. I didn’t react further, making it seem like it was a coincidence that I was passing here even though I was almost running to see him.
Instead of stopping, Alpha Dominic didn’t even glance at the doctor and went ahead of us. I followed them, trying my best to keep up with his huge steps. Even the doctor is having a hard time catching up on him.
“Alpha, please let the doctor mend your wounds.” I requested.
He also ignored me, headed straight to his room, and closed the door on all three of us.
I turned to the doctor and pointed at the first aid kit he was holding. Werewolves like Alpha Dominic are fast to heal, but those kinds of wounds should be mended, at least.
“Can I borrow that? Don’t worry, I’m good at first aid.” I said without much context. Unlike most werewolves, omegas heal a lot slower, and I was pretty clumsy when I was younger, so I got used to treating myself. My mom taught me to, saying that I have to learn in case she isn’t around to mend my wounds.
I wasn’t expecting that she’d be gone this early…
“Luna, I don’t think it’s wise to approach the Alpha right now.” Lucy quickly warned me, but I already made up my mind.
The doctor reluctantly handed the kit to me, and I entered the room alone. The Alpha was emitting so much anger, and I doubt the doctor would risk himself trying to enter the Alpha’s room.
I would have been the same, but he really needs to get some medical attention. I realized that I’d missed seeing one of his injuries. His side was also bleeding. He might have been stabbed because of the amount of blood.
“Leave me alone.” He snapped at me, making my wolf whimper. Our own mate was snarling at us. It couldn’t have been more painful, but I still approached him with a composed reaction.
“Let me mend your wounds, Alpha. It’ll heal faster that way.” I answered, still with a calm demeanor.
Alpha Dominic suddenly grabbed me, making me almost dive and land on him. “I paid you to become my wife. Not to play doctor on me. What are you doing?”
I looked him straight in the eyes even though his response tore my heart apart. “I’m making your money’s worth, Alpha. You didn’t pay me either. You paid my stepfather, which I was never happy about. Now, please just cooperate and let me mend your wounds.”
I pulled my hand away and composed myself. My knees almost faltered. I didn’t mean to talk like that, and I might regret it in the future, but I don’t care. I can’t bear seeing him all bloody like this. I took his arm, and by some miracle, he didn’t back away, although he was still growling under his breath.
I opened the first aid kit and quickly cleaned and disinfected his wound. I’m not sure what happened outside, but the cuts are deep. I didn’t push my luck in asking for details, knowing that it would only dampen his already spoiled mood.
He’s furious at the world. I don’t need a mate bond to figure that out.
Next that I needed to mend was his stab wounds, which should have been the first one I did, but I had to acclimate to Dominic’s anger first. I unbutton his shirt without saying much. We’ve already done so much. I don’t think I should be embarrassed about seeing him topless.
Alpha Dominic didn’t say a word either. His eyes hadn’t returned to normal, and he didn’t bother looking at me.
There was a lot of blood, but it didn’t faze me. I’m still a wolf, after all, bad at hunting for prey on my own during full moons, but nonetheless.
“It’s all done. Please rest for the meantime if that isn’t a stretch.” I announced and started cleaning up. Fortunately, with his regenerative abilities, it would only take a day or two to heal everything.
He didn’t respond and completely turned away from me. It’s a little childish, but I wasn’t expecting a thank you anyway.
I went out of the room carrying the first aid kit and the rest of the towels I used to clean his wounds. Lucy quickly took the towels from me while I returned the kit to the doctor.
“I mended his wounds. I think the Alpha wanted some alone time alone.”
