UNKNOWN POV
Loathe is consuming my heart as I watched my unconscious mother from the window of the Triton Moon pack infirmary. I told her to stay put and leave the dirty work for me, but she didn't listen, and now she's lying on that f*****g white bed, all by herself, helpless! And worse, in the hands of the people, she hates the most.
It was stupid of her to fall in love with someone who's not her destined mate, and what more going loco about him!
Mate! Mate! Mate! f**k mate! f**k Moon Goddess! This is all her fault! She's the one who put this curse on our kind, and lots of werewolves are suffering because of it!
I made a few attempts to break her out of this hell but, they never left her unguarded. And they tighten the security of their territory after Marcus started a war against them. If not for my skill and help from the council, crossing Triton Moon's territory will be impossible. Therefore, this is the best I can do, for now, to watch her from afar.
I must find a way to infiltrate their pack. But, first, I need to save my mother before it's too late, then I will give her the revenge that she's been longing for and will seek my own.
CAILEAN'S POV
This is the best night the pack ever had after facing hardships and chaos. And this is the most peaceful night I had since I arrived here. I can count on my one hand the days and nights where everything was fine, and then the rest were full of unpleasant events and memories.
We are all walking towards the pack house to start the celebration; then I suddenly remember to check on Martha. Somehow, I still feel bad for her, and her kind, the motherly-looking face is the one that keeps on flashing in my mind. I couldn't yet digest the fact that she was the one behind everything that happened to me, her, and Marcus. It's been three days since the tragic war happens, and yet it feels like it only happened yesterday. The fear is still there. Even though I saw Marcus breathe his last breath, at the back of my mind, something tells me that he will come back to torment us again. I shook the absurd thought out of my head and looked at Dylan.
"Dylan, why don't you go ahead with the pack and start the barbecue? I'll just check on Martha quickly since we are nearby. I will take Will with me." I said.
"Ok, my love. But be fast with it." Dylan said.
"I will," I answered and gave him a peck on the lips.
*****
"How is she doing, Will?" I sincerely asked as I stood beside Martha's bed.
"No positive progress. She just keeps on growing weaker every day. It seems like she lost her will to live." He explained with a trace of sadness in his tone.
"Mia wasn't like this. Her vitals were stable, but, in Martha's condition, it keeps on fluctuating." He added.
"Doesn't she have a mate?" I asked as I remember what gave Mia the strength to fight the poison.
"After Richard broke up with Martha, she did not bother to look for her mate. This is because she loves Richard so much, and she never showed any signs of hard feelings towards Richard and Amelia. On the contrary, she was always sweet and kind. So no one will ever think that she's been holding a grudge in her heart. And she dedicated her life to serving the pack. Which now we know why." He explained while checking the cardiac monitor and the IV line.
"I guess the better way to save her is to pray to God," I said. Pity and sympathy are filling my heart as I continue to stare at Martha. The feeling of love is the best thing, but it could be the worst too.
"You mean the Moon Goddess?" Will, corrected with a playful smile.
"I mean that." I chuckled.
"There's still a lot of things I need to learn about being a werewolf. So I hope Dylan's patience is as long as the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway," I said jokingly, which made us both laugh.
"Well, it's time to go to the party," I said as I stood up.
"You can go ahead. I will just run some tests, then I'll follow." Will said.
"Alright, Doc," I replied and turned on my heel. After taking a couple of steps, a glimpse of shadow from the window caught my attention. I stopped and made a beeline to the window.
"What is it?" Will asked, wondering what causes my sudden change, of course.
"I thought I saw something," I answered while checking out the window.
"Anyway, see you at the party," I told Will and walked my way out.
UNKNOWN POV
I was about to leave when Cailean and Will walked into the room and approached my mom's bed. Dylan is so f*****g lucky! Cailean is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my 28 years of existence. If I knew from the beginning that she was Dylan's mate, I could have claimed her myself that night. Instead, I thought she was just a random human passing by the woods, so I decided to scare her, but I unexpectedly fell from the charm of her beauty, and it turned out that she's the same as our kind.
I tried to listen to their conversation, but the room is soundproof. Triton Moon really did a great job of establishing their territory. This is where I truly belong, not at the council! I met Alpha Richard once when I was a kid, and he was a very accommodating Alpha. He even offered me to join his pack. But mom strictly told me to keep my distance from him because Alpha Richard was not who I think he was. And that I could never be part of this pack. I did not bother to ask why because I trust her so much, and she knows him better than me. Only when I turned eighteen that I learned the truth about her and Richard. And it almost made me sick because I felt betrayed. The person I trusted the most just hid the most important fact about her life. And because of that fact, I ended up like an errand boy in the Supreme Council of the Supernatural instead of having a decent pack.
While sulking about my ugly past, I saw Cailean walking in my direction. I immediately ran to the woods before she reached the window and watched her from a distance. I watched her beautiful face as she scans the area outside the window. Her beauty is striking, and the way she dressed up for the Luna ceremony made her look like a goddess of beauty. So f*****g perfect! Then, I felt a twitch of jealousy in my gut, remembering that she is Dylan's mate. That lucky bastard!
"I will come back for you, mom," I said out loud before disappearing into the woods.
