5. It was a mistake

1292 Words
At the hospital~ Karen released soft snores as she had her back rested on the patient's bed, the doctor was seen standing in a corner with Jake who was in a conversation that looked serious if anyone was to judge from their expression. A dark light surfaced Jake's mood and face when the lady began to explain what has went wrong. "Sir, she broke her arm and needs to be placed in a cast and..." "You can't do that because I'm a stranger?" Jake scoffed rudely, in other words, he gave her a dose of her rude actions towards him. Like, who was she to judge that he was a stranger to her?. What kind of stranger brings an unconscious woman to the hospital, pay her bills and even put her in a VIP room. "Yes sir, I believe you're not her guardian" "If I cared less about her health, I would've loved to stop any treatment right now. I would move her to a different hospital, I'm her guardian, once she's awake, you can question her!" Jake continued, stepping away from her. He was also keeping his voice at middle pitch. "I'm sorry sir, I'll have to contact our head director" she lowered her head, her heels clicker as she exit the room whilst sluggishly pulling the door till it was fully closed. A loud hiss escaped his mouth, he strutted towards the window and begin to trace his fingers on the curtain. His mind blank and his head not thinking properly. Jake huffed and rushes towards her bed when he heard a groan that definitely came from her, he was surprised because she was still in her position. His eyes made a sharp trace all over her body, from her broad eyebrows, to her plump lips, her narrowed nose and her long eyelashes. He drank into the perfection of her face, the more he wishes to look away, the more her face pinned him. "This is not right" it was just what he had in his mind until his head swiveled to a man in a white coat, walking in along with the lady from earlier. Jake asked the lady to stay away because their first impression on each other wasn't cool and it doesn't looks like it'd be. "Sir, I agree with you in the end but I just have to apologize on behalf of my junior colleague. Our hospital is packed with lots of protocols, and we as the Doctor have to follow it no matter what" the young man explained in the best way he was able to. "Okay, can we move to the next step?," The two doctors nodded their head. Some moments later, Karen was carried to another room with the electric adjustable bed so her arm could be placed in a cast. Jake had to excuse himself as he got an official call from his company. "This Jake Smith, who am I unto?" "Sir, this is Felicia, I thought you had saved my number the last time we met" says the tiny voiced young lady from the other end. "Ohh, just say your name anytime you call, I don't save numbers," he said to her. "Do you mind calling later?, I'm in a tight situation at the moment." "I was to inform you about the proposal I submitted the other day, you told me it'd take a week before I get response and this is..." "First of all Felicia, I'm not in charge of what you sent and I only gave you that period because I knew you before the proposal. Kindly wait until I'm ready to give you my response, Goodnight!" He ended the call abruptly. He has the face of wanting to hurl insults at her for wasting his time, in the end, all he could do was hiss and hiss over again till he got fed up. Minutes after minutes, it went up to 30 minutes and they were finally done. On their way back to her previous room, the female doctor moved closer to Jake, indeed, she has something to say. "I don't know if I'm allowed to know how you're related to our patient?" "Is that a survey or a personal question?" He countered, his face built as heavy as a rock. "Just a normal question" "I'll have to refuse, don't come in here!" Their conversation ended in the most annoying way and she just forced a smile whilst trying to pretend his words didn't get to her. ~~~ Jake was busy with his phone when suddenly a loud ringing tone got to him, his eyes flashed to the night stand and sitting on it was Karen's phone. A sparkle appeared in his eyes as he spotted the caller ID fully written in capital letters; BEST BABY. Confusion would have been the case if he didn't know that his friend was in the middle of wooing her. He didn't hesitate to pick up the call, "Mom?, When are you coming back home?" Kendall's voice aired, a refreshing feeling was sent down his system as he heard his daughter's voice for the first time in 4 years. "Ken?, This..." "I must be dreaming!" Her shrieking surfaced the call and it ended before he could even utter another word. He would've loved to call her again if her phone wasn't locked but it was. ? Kendall was afraid that her mom's phone might have gotten stolen by someone and that the familiar voice she heard was the culprit. Kendall walked into her brother's room when she heard a sharp gasp, it was nighttime and she didn't like the idea of just the two of them alone in the house. Their mom was supposed to be at home ever since. She redialed Anna's line, for the Umpteenth time, Anna picked up. "Baby girl, I wasn't with my phone, are you okay?" Anna asked. "I'll be once I find my mom" the young lady muttered like a baby. "Your mom, she told me she was getting some clothes at a boutique and..." "Yes, I called her but someone picked up the call instead, I'm afraid something is wrong with her" she said, panicked. "Calm down my dear, I'll surely make sure to get through her, I'll be on deck, just stay in the house" she informed, like a second mother that Karen regards her to be. Anna ended the call and went ahead to meet her husband who was a senior inspector of the New Zealand Police department. "Don't tell me something is wrong?" Her husband was quick to judge by the sudden change in her mood. "I hope not, Karen is missing, her daughter just called me that someone else picked her call" The man made sure his wife was calm before proceeding into tracing Karen's phone after making some calls with their personal computer operator. ? Sounds of continuous coughing could be heard in the room as Karen tries to open her eyes. She scrunched her face when she felt something weighing her arms down, she widened her mouth in disbelief at the sight of the cast. Again, she discovered that both arms had weight and the minute she tilted her head. He was spotted, holding her hands tightly and resting his head a little bit away from it. "Oh...what...ar" she scoffed, not hesitating to tap him so he could get up. "Karen, you're awake" he divulged, rubbing his face. "What the hell are you doing here and with me!!!" She yelled, arching her brows. "It was a mistake" His statement alone was a mistake because now, he has to explain why this was a mistake.
