As soon as the bell rung through the air signalling the end of the longest hour of my life, I shoved my books into my bag and half ran for the door. Determined to get out of that classroom that felt like I was suffocating on mere air. Suffocating by thoughts of the boy who sat a few rows infront of me, him and his stormy eyes that will likely haunt me from now on.
I sighed internally as I made it through the door, not daring to look back. Not caring to, even though something tugged at me deep down inside to just look back at him, hoping he was looking at me, something, somewhere that hadn't felt anything for a long time.
My shoulder hit something hard and I stumbled backwards dropping my bag onto the floor while I tried to catch my balance and not fall flat on my ass.
"Easy there love" A large hand grabbed my forarm, helping me steady myself. Chase's cheesy smirk made me laugh just a little.
"Thanks, you should watch where you are walking" I joked, fully aware I was the one who was actually not watching and was instead stuck in my head thinking about someone I didn't even know, and didn't care to know.
"Oh, you got jokes I see" He laughed, picking up my bag and handing it to me.
"One of my many talents" I retorted, slinging my back over my shoulder again.
"It's lunch period now, I'll show her heighness to the cafateria" He offered with a smile gesturing down the hall.
"Sure" I shruged, figuring that I could at least have someone show me around so I dont end up looking like such a looser on my first day.
We both begun walking towards the cafeteria while students begun to turn and watch every so often. I guess news travels fast in a small town, and everyone was curious about the new girl. I felt exposed and on display, and it took everything within me not to tell Chase I had to make a call and run for the bathroom to wait out the lunch period.
"They will get over it eventually" He spoke, reffering to all the lingering eyes as we walked the hall.
"Small town drama" I sighed, "I don't think I'll ever get used to it"
"It grows on you, kind of like a chronic rash" He laughed, putting his hands in his pockets as we walked.
I couldn't help but laugh when Chase did, he had one of those infectious kind of laughs that had you giggling no matter the context. You don't even have to know what the joke is but you begin laughing anyway.
"What about you?" I questioned, "Any dreams to leave this small town?"
"Maybe one day to travel a bit, but I think I'll always kind of end up back here, we all do" He murmered, his voice thick with a hidden meaning that had me narrowing my eyes at the thought of what exactly he meant.
"Chase!" A voice chimed from the cafeteria, pulling our attention before I had a chance to even press about what exactly he meant.
A very pretty tall girl with dark raven coloured hair was waving her arm around frantically. Her smile vanished the moment her eyes landed on me. Judging by her frantic waving and clear dislike for me being around Chase I am guessing this was either his girlfriend or something of the sorts.
"I can get my own food from here, thanks" I noted, turning around to avoid any confrontation her seeing me with Chase may have just caused.
"Don't be silly, you can sit with us", he grabbed my arm gently before I could get away.
"It's okay, I really need to go pick up some notes for my next class anyway" I lied smoothly, slightly alarmed at how easy these little white lies seemed to leave my lips.
"Nice try" Chase laughed, his hand still on my arm.
Okay so he was clearly smarter than he looks. But still, I wanted no drama in my life anymore, I've got enough s**t to deal with, I didn't still need to deal with jelous high school girls. Besides, as attractive as Chase is, I am just not interested.
"Fine" I rolled my eyes, trying not to act as bitchy as I felt.
Just as we were about to join the que of students waiting to pile food onto their trays, a trail of goosebumps lit my body on fire. I didn't need to look around to know the boy from was here, I could practically feel a light electric buzz dance across my skin as his eyes landed on me, I don't kno how but I just knew he was looking at me, and it was beginging to make me think I had actually officially lost my mind.
I kept my head down and joined the que of students, Chase standing behind me.
"So where are you from?" Chase asked, trying to start a conversation.
Meanwhile my mind was filled with the boy from my Biology class, my eyes dsperately wanted to seach for him.
"Uh- California" I answered trying to remain present in this conversation to keep me from literally obsessing over weather I have gone insane. This couldn't be normal?
"Nice, California is definately on my bucket list", Chase grabbed us both trays and handed me one.
"Thanks"
"Where are you staying in town?" He asked while we stepped forward a bit in the que.
"No idea what the road name is but its down some creepy side road next to a even creepier victorian looking estate"
Chase stiffened a little at my response, only for a fraction of a second before he controlled himself.
"I know the place" He figured, looking down for a moment.
"What's wrong? You seem like you know something I don't" I pressed, eager to learn something new about my new neighbors and the secrets they kept behind those gates.
"Nothing, you just have some interesting neighbors" He snorted.
"Please do elaborate" I laughed, hoping that I was keeping the mood light, meanwhile I was pretty keen to hear more.
"It's nothing, they're just one of the founding families of this town, and their son is a complete d**k" He attested with a smile.
"Thanks for the warning" I giggled, liking Chase's directness. I preferred it when people where blunt and direct with me, mainly because I was so direct myself. I didn't have time for the bullshit.
We reached the front of the que and I immediately grabbed a chicken wrap and some fries with a water. The food looked really good which was a lot better than my old school which seemed to only cater for people who preffered to eat a bag of lettace and a tomato for lunch. Chase opted for a burger and fries with a soda.
We made our way to the table with the raven haired girl, our trays in hand. I was immediately thankful the boy from Biology wasn't seated at this table as well. The thought that he would have been had my stomach in knots.
I sat down at the end furtherest from the raven haired girl, and Chase squashed in next to me, when really he could have sat across from me, but I didn't have it in me to publically scold him.
"Whose your new friend Chase?" The raven haired girl spoke loudly across the table while the three other people at the table seemed to avert their eyes.
"I'm Sarah,"I answered for him, not liking the way she didn't actually ask me directly.
"River" She smiled, even though she had a slightly sour look on her face.
"I'm Joel, and this is Tash and Ben" a blonde haired boy nodded towards his friends, his eyes reminding me of the colour of moss .
I politely waved at them.
"so what brings you to town Sarah?" Joel asked seemingly sweetly.
"I recently moved here from California, much against my wishes" I chuckled, tucking into my wrap.
"Well no one really chooses Ravenswood, Ravenswood kind of chooses you" he snickered, while I sensed some kind of hidden meaning behind those words. Although, due to my weird feelings today I wasn't sure I was entirely mentally stable at this point.
"What's California like?" Chase asked from beside me, making me turn away from Joel.
"Sunny, warm and busy" I smiled, remembering my old home town while a pang of sadness struck me briefly.
I missed my old home. My friends.... my parents.
"You have something on your ..." Chase laughed, lifting his hand to my face making me almost flinch before I realized he was trying to help and save me a million years of embarrassment at walking these halls on my first day with food on my face.
He paused looking for permission for a moment before he gently wiped some mayo from my wrap off the corner of my mouth.
A crash from across the cafeteria made us both wip around.
I instantly gasped. The boy from Biology had flipped his tray over and banged his fists on the table causing everyone around him to jump up. He was staring directly at us and again I was so sure I saw his eyes shimmer, or maybe glow ? I wasn't entirely sure.
I watched with my mouth agape as he took three strides in our direction, his chest heaving and nostrils flared with his sights set precisely on Chase, sending a shiver down my spine.
I had never ever found someone so angry look so f*****g attractive. His dark unruly hair was perfectly messed across his forehead while a dark flame flickered behind those stormy eyes. Now that he was standing I could see how tall he was, with broad shoulders and defined arms that I envisioned wrapped around me.
He abruptly paused mid stride, letting out a sigh before he turned on his heel and stormed out the cafeteria. I some how wanted to leap to my feet and follow him. I wanted to make sure he was okay, to know what had upset him and make sure he is never upset again. My heart ached.
I instantly clutched my chest, my mouth dry. Unsure of what was happening to me. I must be becoming dillusional.
"What's up with him?" River asked with her brow raised.
"You know Logan, always a hot head" Chase replied, still staring at where he had made a dramatic exit.
So that's his name.... Logan.
What got me was that he looked right at us. He looked as if he was approaching us and had his sights set on Chase.
I desperately wanted to know more. Know who Logan was, where he came from, where he lived, what foods he loved, what was his favourite colour, and what kept him up at night.
I fought myself on this, convincing myself he was better off at a distance. That I didn't actually want to know anything at all about him and he less I knew the better. That I was useless, a beacon for death and destruction, and that's the way things would stay.
