CHAPTER 7: AN UNEXPECTED VISITOR

1191 Words
CHRIS I was feeling down. I had planned to speak with Council Member Perry, but he was busy with the report from the summit. He had agreed to meet with me tomorrow, though. A knock at my door made me put down the bottle of vodka that I planned to drown my sorrows in. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I opened that door to see her standing there. I asked her why she was here. As happy as I was to see her and had honestly been inside daydreaming of this very thing, I knew that it was a very bad idea. If Alpha Simmons found out that she had been here, it would cause all-sorts of trouble. I knew that I should tell her to go back to her room, but I just couldn’t do it. She looked sad, her beautiful eyes threatening to spill tears down her porcelain skin. I couldn’t turn her away. Instead, I ended up inviting her in. Once inside, we got comfortable on opposite ends of the sofa. I didn’t trust myself to be too close to her. Even being this close, but not being able to touch her was torture. It didn’t take long, however, for all of that to settle. My longing to touch her and kiss her soon became a longing to hold and comfort her. She was hurting and needed someone to talk to. We sat there just talking for hours. She told about Alpha Simmons cheating and how much she hated her life with him. She begged me to save her from her miserable existence. My heart hurt for her. I had honestly had every intention of getting Council Member Perry to facilitate a meeting to give her the opportunity to reject me in front of Alpha Simmons. Now, though, I wanted nothing more than to claim her and take her away from that misery. I told her that if this was what she truly wanted that we would speak to Council Member Perry as soon as possible. We would ask him for the council’s help. We were mates that should trump any deal that existed between Alpha Simmons and the Alpha of Night Falls. We needed permission from the council, though. Otherwise, Alpha Simmons could declare war on my pack. Knowing how arrogant he was, he probably would, too. She threw herself into my arms and told me that she did want that. I gently kissed the top of her head. I would do whatever it took to stop her from feeling like this ever again. She asked if we could go and see Council Member Perry right then. She didn’t want to wait. I smiled softly at her “I don’t want to wait either. However, it is a bit late to disturb him right now. I promise you that we will go to him first thing in the morning.” I told her. She was disappointed, but she understood. I told her that as much as I would love for her to stay there in my arms all night, she should return to her room. We didn’t want Alpha Simmons getting wind of this before we had a chance to get the council’s approval. If it looked as though we were already acting on our mate bond, before getting permission, then they would likely be less positive about our union. She sighed deeply and stood. Her eyes met mine, and I almost caved. I shook myself, I needed to stay strong. I led her to the door and saw her out. As I closed the door behind her, my strength faded, and I dropped slowly to the floor. I had never felt anything like this before. I had thought that I was in love with Amber, but it was nothing compared to this. I finally understood how she and Adam felt about each other. My heart aches as I thought about that moment back at Lakeside. It seemed like forever ago now, but I had stayed with me. That moment when my mother had rejected my father. It must have been so hard for her. I had respected her so much in that moment, and now, knowing the pull of the mate bond, I respected that decision more than ever. The strength that she had shown. I couldn’t help but wonder if it was the pain and loss that it must have caused her that left her so susceptible to Joseph Michaels and his lies. I should go and visit her in prison. I had been putting it off. I didn’t agree with the things that she had done in those last days, but she was still my mother, I still loved her. I barely slept that night. The misery in Chloe’s voice just kept replaying in my head. Her words, begging me to save her. Eventually, I gave up and got up to take a shower. The sooner that I could go and talk to Council Member Perry, the better. I wanted her out of that situation and here with me. As my Luna. Hopefully, with the council’s backing, Alpha Simmons would back off. Once I was dressed, I pulled out my laptop and searched for Chloe’s father. Carlton Drake was the Alpha of the Night Sky pack. There were from a different region and I hadn’t had any dealings with them before. As far as I knew, neither had my parents. However, I had heard the stories about him. He was a ruthless Alpha who took what he wanted. He had given his daughter to Alpha Simmons as part of a deal. I hoped that he wouldn’t feel any loyalty towards Alpha Simmons. I didn’t want him to come after my pack. I couldn’t fund much about him online. He was rich and known in the human world for being a shrewd and ruthless businessman. However, it seemed as though he kept his private life very private. The only thing that I did find was that he had been married but had lost his wife in an accident years ago. I shut off the laptop and glanced at my watch. It was time to head down and meet Chloe so that we could go to Council Member Perry together. I left the Alpha floor and made my way down. I had arranged for Council Member Perry to meet me in my office. I was walking towards it, Chloe was standing outside the door waiting for me as we had arranged. She looked beautiful. The sunlight was streaming in a nearby window, making her hair shine like spun gold. My heart leapt at the sight of her. I had almost reached her when Alpha Simmons arrived. “Woman, what the hell are you doing here? It is time for breakfast. We will be leaving early this afternoon. So once we have eaten, you will go and pack. Perhaps take yourself to the kitchen and make me a sandwich for the journey home.” He barked at her, pulling her away. I would just have to go ahead and talk to Council Member Perry without her.
