First last day
LIYA’S POV (Marliya)
—
“Are you ready munchkin?” My mother’s voice beams from downstairs. I quickly shove the rest of my things in my tote bag before rushing down stairs.
My low caramel ponytail swinging left to right down my back as I hop down the steps. I tuck a strand of loose hair behind my ear as I step into our white interior kitchen, beaming when I see my mother making pancakes like she usually does on the first day of school.
We just had summer break, meaning two months of no school, only training, hunting and learning every thing I can while going out with my best friend to scrappy-looking places to hang out with other kids that aren’t even from our pack.
I love Mackenzie, but my mother keeps all tabs on me when I’m her with because she has friends from the Looming pack.
I have gotten more tan over the summer, my skin is glowing and I feel great, my caramel hair even got natural highlights in from all the time I have been spending in the sun and I’m feeling good about my senior year.
We’re a city of just wolves, the city itself is called Kingdom and we are three packs , each of us have our own land and there are houses closer to the town where elders and retired leaders live.
The city itself is big, there is everything a normal city has, except this city makes sure no human lives or comes on vacation here.
We are forbidden from shifting in the city since humans pass through and stop at our stores, so I guess it doesn’t really matter if we’re just wolves around here because we don’t have the freedom like we do in our own lands.
I live in the Anschultz pack, we’re neighbors to the royals where the King, Queen and their self obsessed daughter live. They also have a son, but he’s been sent away two years ago to train because he was slim, weak and a nerd.
The last pack in our city, is the Looming pack.
I have nothing much to say except that we are enemies. My parents never told me why, but we are.
It’s a secret they said, after telling me our family doesn’t keep any secrets from each other.
My life isn’t perfect, but it is does work and I am happy.
I meet Kenzie at the gate where she’s making out with Stone.
I suddenly feel very conscious about my clothes when I see her wearing a cropped black tube top rocking white jeans and black boots.
Mackenzie’s style amazes me every time I see her and here I am, walking in a white tennis skirt with a emerald green off-shoulder sweater and white converse.
My caramel hair is in a low ponytail while her icy blonde hair is curled and fluffed, looking as if she came from the salon.
I walk up to them, clearing my throat and Kenzie’s eyes flick to me before she giggles and pulls away, her hands resting on Stone’s chest, her back leg kicking up. “Enough.” She swats his hand off her ass as she waltzed over to me innocently, "You took forever." she mutters teasingly and I roll my eyes, only because I know for a fact that she was early.
No matter how much trouble Kenzie makes or gets into, her timing is always punctual.
"Let's go." I sigh as I hook my arm into hers and we walk to school.
The walk to school is ten minutes, an entire ten minutes I listen to Kenzie talking about how she likes making out with Stone, but she doesn't like him. It's all very complicated, well that is her words.
Walking into the school parking lot, I could feel a lot of eyes on us and I mentally close off and fall silent, "Why is everyone staring at you?" Kenzie bumps my shoulder with hers. I frown, looking at her, "What? They're not." I frown. "They totally are, I told you your tan was amazing." she giggles and I turn my head to the front, my eyes flicking over the parking lot as I gulp down the lump in my throat.
A few girls are staring, whispering among each other and I try my best not to listen into it and focus my attention elsewhere.
I look over to a few guys leaning against their cars and bikes, looking at me, their eyes literally trailing over my body.
I hug myself and notice a scoff, my head whips to the side and I see Davina Black, the princess of the King and Queen, glaring at me, her eyes flicking to Logan f*****g Lombardi, her boyfriend who's eyes don't seem to be able to move away from me.
As our eyes lock, I hug myself as I feel cold and avert my gaze away from the dashing dark haired boy. His jaw is sharp, the veins in his neck pulsing, his thick eyebrows furrowed together.
Logan's gaze always has me uncomfortable, he's the son of our rival's alpha and whenever he looks at me, I think he's planning something, because why wouldn't he? I've grown up being taught to never go near him in school because he hates me, his entire pack hates us and his gaze is always cold, as if he's plotting something.
I never look at him for too long, but I could still feel his hallow stare boring into the side of my face.
"I'll see you at lunch.", "See ya!" Kenzie beams and walks off to greet some of her other friends as I head inside of the school. Before walking through the open doors, I glance back at Logan for some reason, his semi dark orbs still on me and I can’t help but look at Davina, her hostile glare flicking between Logan and I until her pitch black orbs are glued to me, her stare turning darker while hatred covers her face.
I guess she does not like that her so called perfect boyfriend is staring at me, but she has nothing to worry about. We are rivals, not friends.
I quickly walk into the school, halting in my tracks when I see a guy standing with his back against my locker.
My insides twist, but I push through it as I walk over to the tall guy. He's wearing blue jeans with a black hoodie, his hands tucked into the pouch, his hood up and I stop in front of him with my lips pressed into a thin line.
"Can you please move?" I ask as I look up at him and my jaw almost drops to the floor.
"Keegz!" I beam, smiling from ear to ear at the sight of my old friend I haven't seen for two years since his parents sent him away.
"What's up Schultz? Missed me?" he grins and I roll my eyes, "Of course, how are you? Goddess, you are fit." my eyes trail his lean body. I could see his muscles even from under his hoodie as it fits tightly around his upper arms.
"I didn't change that much." he scoffs, taking his hood off. "The last time I saw you, you were skinny, shorter..." I look at his length, "And a little bit less jock?" I try to find a nice way to say nerd and he starts laughing, his chiseled jaw is sharp, his icy eyes bright and his cheekbones are sculpted.
Keegan Black went from geek to sheek and I'm happy for him. He hated the way people treated him and I am sure that they won't treat him like dirt anymore.
His laughter is deep, something way different than his scrawny laugh years ago, "You're not looking bad yourself Liya, you actually look beautiful." he stares down at me with what I think is admiration and it makes me roll my eyes.
"Oh please, the only thing beautiful about Marliya is her f*****g eyes." Davina's voice makes my head snap in her direction as she walks into the school, her arm linked with Logan's and I immediately look away before she stares me to death again.
"Davina, don't be a bitch." Keegan sighs, standing up for me.
That's one thing that hasn't changed, Keegan has always stood up for me against his sister, who has a hatred for me for the last year because of Logan's obsessive staring.
I think she thinks it's because he likes me, but Logan and I both know it's a hatred stare.
"Don't let the tan fool you Keegz." she beams, laughing before stopping right next to me.
I tense when I feel Logan's eyes on me again, I have never been this close to him before.
"So Marliya, are you now in love with my brother like every other girl with a cunt in here?" I glance at Davina as she whips her ash-blonde hair over her shoulder, staring at me with a grin. "No, we've been friends for years." I shrug and she starts to laugh while looking at her brother and then her hostile glare falls on me again, "Yeah, but now he's hot and you're...not." her disgusted expression while she looks at me has me seething.
"At least I didn't have plastic surgery to look alright, maybe that's why your boyfriend keeps staring at me, I'm natural." I shrug and her eyes widen before they narrow, her dark gaze blazing, "You little..." she steps closer and everything goes blank.
My fist flies forward and she screams, stumbling back as my fist connects with her cheek.
My eyes flick to Logan in fear that he might do something to me, but he's grinning at me one second before grabbing ahold of her shoulders to hold her back.
Keegan starts laughing and I think he might piss his pants while everyone starts to gather around us, staring at me, some whistling and others whispering.
"What the f**k Marliya?" Davina snaps as she holds her cheek. "You came at me." I shrug and she rolls her eyes, "Not to f*****g touch you, gross." she snarls before striding past me.
That hurt.
"Logan!" her voice bellows and only then do I realize that he's standing next to me, grinning while intensely staring at me with what looks like..admiration. Our eyes are locked on one another and the other side of his mouth twitches up, offering me a smile. "Logan!" Davina's demanding screech makes him sigh before he walks off.
Did Logan Lombardi just smile at me?
And why?
"You are crazy Liya." Keegan beams, clapping his hand before he slings his arm around my shoulder, "I knew you had a fire inside of you." he mutters and I shrug him off, staring at him with wide eyes, "I'm in so much trouble, aren't I?" I chew on my bottom lip. "No worries, I'll cover for you and say she tried something first." he plops his back against the locker next to mine and I sigh, opening my locker, "Thanks." the guilt creeping up my spine doesn't fade, not even when he's offering help.
If Davina isn't getting revenge, Logan definitely will , I mean, why wouldn't he stand up for his girlfriend?'
All that has me shook is the way Logan Lombardi smiled at me, the intensity in his eyes makes my skin crawl.
