“You don’t?” I whispered, and almost asked why.
“Your bathroom is one floor down. To the right. You mustn’t use it until dawn, young man.”
“I mustn’t?”
He stepped up to me, brushed an extended finger against my jaw, and shook his head. “Of course not. You must stay in your room all night. Where it is safe. The manor can be very tricky after dark. Very peculiar. I beg of you not to stray. Stay put. Go nowhere if you know what’s best for you.”
“But what if I have to use the facilities?”
He looked me square in the eyes, dragged his finger to my neck, winked at me, and answered, “Dawn, Mr. Dumar. You must wait until dawn to leave this room.
