3- What Are You?

Miya couldn’t make it either. My patience was damaged severely, I had lost my mind by the constant deaths, proving this time to be the worst time of my life. The worst situation I have faced. “f**k!” Cursing, I was in the corridor, kicking the wall while the nurses were dealing with the dead body and I had absolutely lost my posture. “What the hell is happening!? Goddammit!” Growling, I slammed my hand on the wall, fuming with rage. “Doc, calm down, please.” Anna came, trying to hold me back, but I yanked her hand back, growling under my breath. “How you expect me to f*****g calm down?! Can’t you see that people are dying and we are not able to save a single one of them!” I yelled, unwillingly taking my distress on her. “Your frustration won’t bring the lost ones back too.” She whispered, moving away from me in fear. Tensed to see me like this for the first time. I had always been a calm and collected man, but ever since those deaths began to happen, I had lost my ability to react. “What do you want me to do then, huh? Can’t you see the condition we are in?! We are facing a damn endemic problem. None of us know why and how.” I snarled, leaning on the wall, pulling my hair because of the strain collecting. “I know we are powerless but we are trying our best, Doc. Fury is not an option.” She tried to make me understand in a tender tone but nothing could ease my storm. But, I swear, I won’t breathe properly until I find the core of this affliction. “Tsk…” Growling, I punched the wall, taking a few deep breaths before regaining my senses and gathering my broken patience. “Leave me alone. Go and inform Miya’s family.” I muttered, rubbing my temples, taking a seat, hiding my face in my hands. Anna didn’t argue, knowing it would be better to leave me alone. I remained like that, hiding my face in my hands. I feel powerless, desperate to fulfill my duties, but I am failing badly. God, guide me, please… I am sorry that I am failing as a doctor. I am sorry, I am so sorry. I remained like this for a long time, emitting shallow breaths. My heart was heavy but I bore the pain of it. That is all I could. Bear with it. “Doc, Miya’s family is here. Come and pay your condolences.” Anna told me, dragging me out from my link of misery. “Coming…” Sighing, I rose from my seat and went with her, going to see her daughter with a heavy heart. Disheartened to inform her that he failed to save her. “Mama…” Miya’s daughter cried, tears streaming down her face. How her mother was okay days ago and now she is no longer with them. “We are so sorry for your loss. We tried our best.” I said sincerely, lowering my gaze in shame. “What is happening to our land? Is there something wrong with our village, Doc?” She sniffled, trying not to cry, noticing the change of air too. “I would recommend you to leave Glaze for the time being.” I replied in a dead tone, unable to look up as this was the only advice I could give her. “What is happening?” She asked, but impotent to answer, I walked away with a strong heaviness on my chest. After spending three days in the hospital, I was going back home. Exhausted, my breath was heavy. My mind was hazy at this point. I needed rest. It was midnight, the streets were empty. No sign of life in surroundings. As I was walking, I noticed someone walking mindlessly. “Who’s there?” I called him, narrowing my eyes in perplexity. He doesn’t seem drunk. There was something wrong about him. I walked up to him but ignoring my call, he continued to walk. “Hello?” I called again but he didn’t listen and went into an alley. Hiding, I went after him to see where he was going. Hoping it could give at least a hint to show what is happening to Glaze. Peeking, my eyes fell upon those pale porcelain hands indicating it was her. I knew it, they have a relationship to the deaths happening. But, upon looking up, I saw her oceanic eyes were glistening crimson in the clear. My eyes widened. I have never seen a scarlet eye before. My mouth gaped, is this possible? I thought as they held the man, showing fangs. When did she get fangs? And she bit him! “What the-” Gasping, I came out from the corner, horrified to see she was sucking that man’s blood. Giving answers to all my questions in one glance. “What the hell are you doing?!” I yelled, growling at her. Infuriated that she was the reason for having self-doubts. “My, my, We have found a sneaky pest.” She giggled, throwing the man with an inhumane force that he hit the wall and fell unconscious. "What the hell is happening here?" I snarled, staring dead into this monster’s eyes unwaveringly. I always knew there is something wrong with these people but didn’t expect them to desire a human’s blood. "What do you think, Doctor?" She smirked seductively, licking the blood on her lips. Hands resting gracefully on her waist. "I should have trusted my instincts. You are not what you show." I growled, curling my hands in a fist. Judging her strength, her speed would be like this too. I have no place to run. I must confront her and not fret. "And what are you going to do about it?" She asked temptingly, taking a step closer which hardened my features. Inhaling sharply, I gathered my courage. I needed to survive so I could alert my people. "What are you, Cress Hemsworth?" I asked dominantly, glaring at her. "A vampire. A mythical creature to one that subsists by feeding on the vital essence- generally in the form of blood- of the living." She explained nonchalantly, approaching me slowly like a hunter. "I never fathomed such creatures existed. That explains how people are dying by sudden blood loss." "Mhm. We need it." She nodded, shrugging her shoulders, laughing a little. Her true face was before me, she was a monster and I have to prove it against everyone. "We?" I asked, narrowing my eyes, "Why do you think I am the only one?" She taunted, chuckling in a seductive tone. "Tsk. Blasphemous creatures." I scoffed and in an instant, she disappeared, breathing into my ear from behind. I anticipated this reason, she is trying to terrify me. "Aren't you frightened?" She asked enticingly, resting her hand on my shoulders, gripping them firmly. Looking from my shoulder to look dead into her scarlet eyes, my snarl deepened, "I am repulsed more." But then a smirk reached my lips, ripping her freezing hands from my skin, folding my arms at my chest, "Besides, if you wanted to kill me you would have chosen me first." I said cockily. "Why first?" She arched a brow, straightening her back. "Because I am the only doctor here. Killing me would make things much easier, but you didn't. You wanted me to suffer, to feel miserable." I scoffed at the last part, smirked, replaced by my growl again. Resenting her presence here. Stealing lives as if it means nothing. Her eyes widened for a split second, causing her to laugh huskily, pushing her long hair back, amused at my statement, "Ah, you are the first human to impress me this much." "Does my face look like I care?" I asked, disgusted at the blood I could clearly see on the corner of her lips. Pressing my teeth, I cannot do anything in this situation. If she wants, she can kill me right here, right now. I have to use my words in order to convince her to let me live. "I would never forgive you for the lives you have stolen." I hissed, moving away from her, not wanting her cold breath in my ears again. "One would do whatever they can to survive." She hummed, not a single shred of remorse was on her face. She doesn’t care at all. "Leave the Glaze, Cress." I enunciated, willing to do anything in order to throw her out of my small place. I cannot allow these creatures to roam and kill whoever they want. "No." She smirked wickedly but also added, "However, I am open to negotiation." Arching a brow, I asked what I shouldn’t have, "What do you want to leave?" Licking her lips, she came closer. I tried to move back but she held my arms. My eyes widened at her action, but biting my earlobe she sent an unforeseen shiver down my spine. With a frozen breath in my ears, she whispered seductively her intentions before leaving all alone in the horrifying night. "I want you, Ace Solis.”
