“Take Miya’s body to the direct sunlight.” I ordered Anna strictly, but the smirk lingering on my lips alarmed her about my intentions. I haven’t been this thrilled for anything in a devilishly long time.
“What?” She blinked, not knowing what distance it would take, but there is one hypothesis which I needed to see for myself and I don’t have much time.
“I want to see something. Now, hurry, don’t let other staff members see us.” I ordered, hand resting in my pocket, intrigued to see the reaction that is about to take place now.
“Okay…” Trailing off, she followed my instructions. After the series of unforeseen events happening, she only trusted me.
I was standing in direct sunlight, taking out my cigarette and lighting it up, smirking at Miya’s body, motioning to Anna to take her out in sunlight.
When her corpse greeted sunlight, an intense reaction happened. Her skin glowed slightly and began to crumble. Her skin was crumbling under direct sunlight, showing why it didn’t come out during the daytime.
“What is happening?!” Anna yelled, horrified by the sight before her, losing her mind to find something unnatural happening.
“I knew it. There is something about sunlight.” I smirked, inhaling deeply from my cigarette, exhaling smoke in the air.
“Take her inside.”I ordered, taking her body inside.
Observing further, going back inside, her skin healed. Narrowing my eyes, I knew her regenerating abilities would be incredible, but I didn’t expect this much.
“Doc… Her wound.. Disappeared.” She whispered, eyes widened in dread. This was beyond her knowledge and people are scared by what they don’t know. She was terrified, but I was engrossed in my ponderings.
Smoking quietly, I held my chin, mumbling my thoughts aloud, “Regeneration as well, hmm? Is that what you meant by ‘We’?”
“Doc…” She called but I ignored her, affirming my thoughts.
“You are making us into those? What exactly are you planning to do with us and why am I amid all this? If you want us to become one of you, then why do you want me?” At one point, she wants us to become vampires too, but then why does she desire me, a human?
“Doctor?!” Anna yelled in a broken tone, breaking my pace of thoughts. Arching a brow in displeasure, I turned but saw she had tears in her eyes, she was shaking.
“Anna?” I called her hesitantly. Anna had always been an unbreakable woman. I wonder why she is on the verge of crying right now.
“What is happening?” She asked, shaking badly out of fear, losing her breath when fear was taking over her.
“Don’t be scared. There is nothing to be afraid of.” I sighed, coming closer, walking to her and giving her head a pat.
“But.. This- This… Are we cursed?” She asked, wiping her eyes to remove tears. Didn’t believe me when I said it, huh? I wanted to retort but she was already frightened.
“Yes. Cursed by some fiendish creatures who feed upon our blood, but don’t worry, I am here. I won’t let anything happen to you guys.” I sighed, finishing my cigarette and crushing it. Telling her the situation nonchalantly.
“W-What?” She gasped, holding her dress, moving away from the corpse to think what the hell was happening.
“Shh, it’s only between us. You see Miya? She is not entirely dead either.” I scolded her, not to convert this into a rumor and bring riot.
“B-But her pulse has stopped. How is this possible?” She asked, innocently, as I was taking her body back. Her family would be here any time to take her now.
Though I was truly interested to see how long it would take for her to wake up again and become a vampire too.
“You see what happened when she was in sunlight, didn’t you? They are not our typical patients. Unfortunately, I think we might have to commit human experimentation before telling everyone.” I explained, we needed more results before telling everyone.
Because people here… are not so smart…
“I am scared… Her pulse has stopped, she is healing and those marks.” She whispered, wiping the tear in the corner, taking a few deep breaths to regain her senses.
“Do you trust me, Anna?” I asked sternly, stopping in my tracks.
She glanced at me but soon a determination took over her features as she nodded, “Yes.”
I smiled at her reaction and mumbled, “Then place faith in me.”
“Okay…” She trailed off as we took Miya back to the morgue.
“Pretend nothing has happened now. Take her and let them have her way.” I muttered, it was unfavorable to let a precious source of information leave, but I had no choice.
“If she is going to come… then this means… others too?” She asked, trying to fathom what would happen to us if they attacked us.
“There is a possibility. There might be some conditions too. But, Miya is going to come to life for sure.” I told her one fact but the lack of time had restricted us.
“How?” She asked, tensed to think about it.
“Because her blood reacted to mine instantly, almost to consume it, it darkened in color too.” I told her calmly the effect it had when it was met with mine.
“Oh Lord, why can’t we leave her in the sunlight and show everyone what is happening?” She asked worriedly.
“And create a panic, ruin the peace? No, we can’t do this for now.” I retorted, shrugging my shoulders.
“I don’t know what you intend to do, but I am trusting your judgment,” She mumbled, placing her faith in my judgment.
“Thanks. Now, take her and act normal.” I ordered, walking away and going back to my cabin and taking a look at the data I have managed to collect in those twenty-four hours.
Sighing deeply, I entered my cabin and saw the most undesirable woman in my cabin. She was sitting on my table, one leg over the other, emitting pure temptation from her presence, as an umbrella was resting in the corner.
“Thanks for confirming my deduction.” I mumbled, closing and locking the door. She also cannot enter the sunlight. She even closed the blinds to stop sunlight from entering.
“Well, well, you aren’t known as a genius for any reason. One day and you researched this much on us?” She giggled, tracing her finger on the file on my table.
“Why are you here?” I asked coldly, not paying attention to her, but getting down, she walked up to me, colliding her icy blue gaze with mine intensely.
“I am here to take what belongs to me.” She whispered seductively, pressing me against the wall, but I showed no expression, staring back into her eyes.
“You~” She cooed, which made my expression twist, scoffing. I slapped her hand away, moving her out of my way, “Don’t joke around.” I muttered.
“Just kidding, you have one of my own with you.” She chuckled seductively.
“Why bother? You are going to take her out from the grave sooner or later.” I smirked, leaning against the table, arching a brow in amusement at her.
“And amazing observation skills too.” She smirked back, walking up to me with strange amusement lingering on her face.
Her looks wiped my smirk, replaced with pure assertiveness as I asked strictly, “Why are you after me, Cress?”
Laughing a little, she put her hand on the other side of the table, hovering over me, scanning my form from top to bottom, but I could feel it- There is no escape from her domain.
“You have earned my interest too. I desire you as a possession I want to keep in my room.” She whispered, and was about to touch my face, but I grabbed her wrist.
“Perish with those desires, you vile woman.” Growling, I pushed her away, scoffing at the failed attempt. Not liking my actions, her eyes gleamed with crimson.
“Be careful with that tongue, Ace Solis.” She warned me sternly, but she wanted me and I knew she wouldn't do anything, so I took advantage of it.
“Etch this in your mind, I am not a toy for you. I am married.” I enunciated, refusing to offer myself to this woman.
My response brought her amusement back, “Oh, that measly woman you are so proud to have as your wife? Is she worth the pride you hold in her?” She laughed, mocking the sacred bond I have with Aubrey, but how can creatures like her understand the worth of it in the first place?
“She is. She is worth dying for if that is what you are asking,” I proclaimed. She was taken aback at the unwavering faith I had in Aubrey.
“Are you sure you should trust her this much?” She asked, smirking, trying to evoke distrust in me.
“Don’t try to entangle me into stupid talks, they won’t work on me.” I scoffed, rolling my eyes off to ignore her fatuous statements.
“We will see. But don’t worry soon…” I almost gasped when she hovered over me, touching her body almost with mine, dangerously closer to my face, staring seductively in my eyes, completing her sentence.
“You will surrender yourself to me, Ace~”
