ASTRID'S POV
My body trembled as we hid ourselves in a corner. I picked the wrong day to leave the house. I shouldn't have come out today.
Oh! And I really wanted to explore the museums. The Rogues. I didn't know how they worked here. But most of the time they are a pack of thieves that don't usually show their faces anywhere unless they have to come steal something they believe was theirs. Plus, they were known for their strong sense of smell.
I clutched on to Ray as I tried to rub his scent on me. They would be able to sniff out that I was royal blood. And they could harm me or take me hostage. I shouldn't have been here in the first place. I should have been in the car riding around.
How could such terrible things happen today?
I bit my lower lips as I tried to calm myself down. I saw some legs that ran inside this section. Some wolves were on the floor, and some hid in corners as they waited for the wild pack to take what they wanted and left.
"There! That's the fossils!" A female voice yelled. I saw as they marched towards it.
They searched around the bones until they found the remnants of her red hair. Luckily, they only grabbed two strands. Some other girl ran to grab a jewel at the end opposite us.
"Wait, do you smell that?" A woman's voice said, and my heart tore into many pieces.
I could only see her legs and the end of the red dress or skirt I was wearing. I pushed myself back at the wall, and I grabbed Ray's back, hoping he would shield me from these people.
"I smell royal blood!" A man chuckled, excited as if he had hit the jackpot.
My heart started racing in my chest as I dug my fingers into the poor man's back.
"The leprechauns certainly left us a hefty gift today!" Another called at the end of the hall. I couldn't see them again because I was back in a crouching position, Ray was currently in front of me, so I couldn't see a thing except from the artifact showcase glass before us.
I placed one of my hands on my mouth to stop myself from making any sound. But all of this was going to be futile if they could smell as well as they claimed. They could probably only see Ray clutched down, not me behind.
"Boo!" A voice yelled right above us, and my soul separated from my body due to the sudden fear. I clutched at my chest as my heart rate increased.
"You aren't the one. It's the doll behind you. Hiding like a little mouse," He gave me the creepiest smile I had ever since in my life.
He dragged Ray out of my way, and he threw him somewhere on the floor.
"She is not royal blood. She simply sleeps with royalty, not even direct blood. She isn't worth your time!" He begged, but they ignored him.
Cold sweat broke on my forehead, and tears were threatening to fall. What if they tried to kill me instead when they lost interest?
I shivered at the thought of it, making an offer wasn't going to be good either. That would mean I had to involve the Alphas. That would cost my freedom and somebody's life. I. Would handle this all alone.
Moon goddess, please let me not get captured today. Please do something for your loyal subject.
He placed his hands on me, and I felt an electric current pass through my body. He stared at the little hair on his hand, and he smiled.
He moved closer to sniff me, and he caught a scent, and he moved back. His pupils dilated, and his face went pale. His eyes were wide as saucers, and he moved back from me.
"Come on! Let's go, i don't think we have to come here anymore," He said before he ran off, and the rest started going.
The one in a cloak caught my attention. I could only see his gray eyes. They reminded me of those same eyes that snatched my soul from my body every night.
Immediately, they left, Ray stood up and rushed to me.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt your grace?" He questioned as he checked my body. I sat there still trying to understand what the hell happened just a few seconds ago.
"Let's get out of here. Some people are staring at us," I replied as I stood up.
Immediately, we walked out of the museum, and just like we all planned at the same time, the driver was pulling into the driveway. I rushed to settle inside the car.
Everything that happened was enough for a day. "Please take me home. it's almost evening," I said.
Why did he react that way? And what was that electric feeling I got when we came into contact? And those eyes? Why were they familiar yet distant?
I had a hundred questions spiraling in my head with no one exactly to give me answers.
"What happened? Did something happen here?" The driver asked, panicking already.
"Rogues, they were a higher type, and they were more than one. I couldn't take them on all by myself. Of course, they sniffed at her royal blood. But something made them run away from her. I don't know what it is, but they did." Ray explained.
"Next time you leave, I will be sure to survey the area by myself. i promise, i am so sorry this had to happen under our watch." They bowed their heads on the steering wheel.
"Please, it wasn't your fault. Let's get back home," I insisted, and we drove in a matter of seconds.
"What is wrong?" Sienna asked the moment i stepped my feet into the house.
"I almost tripped while i was walking, and reporters and paparazzi everywhere. It will be a lot to get used to," I faked a smile so she wouldn't ask me more questions.
I trusted her, but I couldn't tell her what happened.
"The Alphas are back already, and they were searching for you," The announcement made my heart sink to my chest.
"Oh, I see," I managed to say, the last thing I wanted was for them to smell the rouge or Ray off my body.
I dismissed Sienna and I walked up to my room. I opened the door, and I was met face to face with Aiden.
