Astrid POV
I pried my eyes open, surprised to see myself in my room. Slowly, I struggled to sit up but the pain in my head still hurt!
I held onto my head and looked around to reach for that ruthless old man who almost had his way with me. As my eyes darted around, I didn't see a trace of him; nothing told me he had been with me some time ago.
I pushed away the bedsheets to check if he truly did it when I passed off, but everything on me was intact except the torn of my shirt . I gasped out in relief. Thankfully, he didn't do it.
Just as I was drowning in thanks, the door of my room snapped open, and I almost jolted up, but I calmed down when a head popped in. It was sienna. She must've come to check on me.
In her hands was a tray of wrapped clothes.
“My lady” she bowed and kept the clothes on a stool by the side of the room before returning to me.
She bowed again, keeping her head low on the ground. “My lady, I'm sorry…I wasn't able to stop him” she said and started sobbing.
My heart was torn down, I had never blamed her despite I blamed that shameless king that never respected anyone.
“Please, I beg of you, don't report me to the Alpha's when they come back” she pleaded, clasping her hands together. I couldn't see the terror in her eyes and how fearful she was. But what made her think I would push all the blame on her whereabouts? She did nothing. When she even tried to explain to that shameless old hag, he didn't listen, not to jer and not to me.
I held her up. “You don't need to be afraid, I'll do no such thing”, I assured her, wiping off her tears.
“Besides, you don't need to blame yourself. He didn't do anything to me.”
“Really?” she sobbed, looking up at me. I nodded knowingly.
“That's a relief, but your dress is torn,” she said.
I looked down at the torn dress, and the thought of how he jumped away from me returned. I wonder what he saw that made him jolt away.
“My lady?” Sienna's voice snapped at me, driving me out of my reverie.
“Yes…yes…you said something?” I blinked.
“Yeah, we need to change your dress before the Alpha's return” she said.
“okay”
She took me to the bathroom, washed me and changed me into new clothes.
When we were there, she led me down the stairs to the dining area to eat my food. Thankfully for that shameless king my plans for the day were ruined, since the sun had started setting. When I settled down to have my meal I couldn't shake off the urge to ask.
“Who is he?” I asked, making my curiosity get the best of me. Sienna shot me a quizzical look, trying to indicate what I meant. I sighed and asked again.
“Who is he, the man that called himself the king?”
“Shhh…” She immediately placed her finger on my lips to shut me up. I stared at her strangely, trying to understand her reaction as she looked around, searching to see if anyone was in sight.
“Don't you ever say that again,” she whispered.
“Say what exactly?” I frowned at her.
“Referring to the king as a guy.”
King? I raised my eyebrows at her.
“Yes, he is the father of the Alphas, the one and only King Lothaire Ferguson,” she said, the name sounding almost reverent. Why the hype when he almost had me irritated?
I rolled my eyes and focused on my food.
“So, that's who he is?” I asked, using the table knife to cut my beef.
“Yes, that's who he is,” Sienna replied sadly. I could tell she felt bad about what he did to me, but I didn't waste much time thinking about it.
I guess he assumed that I was a maid, but now he knows he must be embarrassed of himself.
The main door of the room creaked open and Darius came in with a suitcase in his hand. When his eyes fell on me, he bowed. Just as he lifted his head back up, Aiden came in.
“Astrid… you're up,” he said, surprised to see me downstairs. I know he believed I would still be in my room by now.
He sent Darius up with his bag and came to have his seat at the table. As soon as he settled in, he snapped his fingers, and Sienna quickly hurried to serve him.
He glanced at me differently from the first time, this time with warmth and compassion. I wondered why his brothers weren't back. I was curious to ask but kept my gaze fixed on the meal despite the tension of his gaze.
“Do you want to ask anything?” His voice caught my attention. I glanced over at him and smiled. “No, but where are your brothers? Didn't you come with them?”
“No,” he simply replied and picked up his spoon. “They are still at work. I decided to come early.”
“Don't you think they might need your presence at the company?” I asked curiously.
He smirked and shook his head, indicating no. “Why don't you eat first? Then, we'll have a walk, and I'll tell you all the things you need to hear.”
I nodded and continued eating, though my mind was buzzing with questions. What could he possibly need to tell me that required a walk?
The rest of the meal was quiet, with only the clinking of utensils filling the room. I stole glances at Aiden, trying to read his expression, but his face remained unreadable.
After finishing my meal, Aiden stood up and offered his hand to me. "Shall we?"
I hesitated for a moment before placing my hand in his. His grip was firm yet gentle, and he led me out of the dining room and into the garden. The evening air was cool, and the sun was just beginning to set, casting a golden hue over the garden.
We walked in silence for a while, the gravel crunching beneath our feet. Finally, Aiden broke the silence. "I know you're curious about many things, Astrid. And you deserve answers."
I looked at him, my curiosity piqued. "What do you mean?"
He took a deep breath. "There are things about our family, about King Lothaire, that you need to understand. Our world is not as simple as it seems."
I furrowed my brows, confusion swirling in my mind. "What are you talking about?"
Aiden stopped walking and turned to face me, his expression serious. "King Lothaire is not just any king. He holds power beyond what most people can imagine. And as his sons, we have responsibilities and secrets that we must protect at all costs."
I felt a chill run down my spine. "What kind of secrets?"
He hesitated, as if weighing his words carefully. "There are things that must remain hidden, things that could change everything if they were revealed. But for now, all you need to know is that you are safe with us. No harm will come to you."
I nodded slowly, trying to process everything he was saying. It was clear that there was much more to this family than met the eye, and I was now a part of it, whether I liked it or not.
"Thank you for telling me," I said softly.
He gave me a small, reassuring smile. "Let's continue our walk. There's still so much more I need to explain."
As we walked deeper into the garden, I couldn't shake the thoughts of his words off my head, it was like my mind was clouded with thick dark clouds. My curiosity grew even more, but I couldn't bring myself to ask that question. I bit on my lower lip, trying to think of a way to ask him questions about the secret they were keeping, when his question cut my trance.
He asked, “Who do you like more between my brothers and I?”
I shot him a puzzled look. Why would he even ask such questions? But he gave me that casual look, waiting to hear my response. I turned away, feeling my face was already turning red.
How am I going to answer this?
“Well…I don't know yet.”
“Is that so?” he paused. I turned and saw him put his index finger on his rosy lips. Immediately I felt a loop on my throat and turned away again.
“Then, who do you think is great in bed?”
Immediately, my face was exposed to a tomato volcano.
“What..!!”
“Yeah, I need to know. Maybe then I can improve my skills.”
“I don't know what you're talking about” I declined, afraid to face him and not to see my blushing face.
“Don't you think I need to know?” His voice sounded a bit impatient.
“I think we should head back,” I said, turning my heel and walking back to the palace.
“Wait Astrid, wait for me!” He screamed as he ran after me.
