1: STAR ELITE HUNTER
In the deepest fantasy where beasts and monsters dwell among humans, a race of hunters was born. They became the peacemakers who were assigned to prevent chaos from repeating the ancient conflict. But throughout generations of hunters, there was a particular hunter that surpassed their ancestors. “Great, I’m hanged upside down.” a man in dark clothing sighed calmly as he looked around the lair where he was. The captured hunter knew that he was somewhere in the nomad vampire’s lair since there were some fresh and old corpses with some rotten bones scattered everywhere. Among those disgusting rotten bones and corpses around, there was a rotten chair made of bones where the master of the lair was seated and drinking his blood wine while watching the captured hunter hanged upside down before him. “Well, well, this is a pleasant surprise to be visited by the top-notch skilled hunter of the Hunter Guild Society.” A sinister nomad vampire amusingly chuckled upon seeing a chained hunter hanging upside down in the middle of his lair. “Thank the flying rumors around the land.” The chained hunter was chill when he spoke to the sinister nomad vampire before him. “You’ll be amazed at how great they exaggerated everything.” “IT WAS NOT EXAGGERATED! IT'S THE WHOLE TRUTH!” The nomad vampire slammed his chalice on the arm of his rotten chair. “AND I WILL MAKE IT EVEN MORE SPLENDID BY KILLING EVERYONE HERE!” The hunter just hummed before replying nonchalantly. “Right, I get that a lot.” “I’m going to make sure that you suffer. And when I mean to suffer, everything you hold dear will be gone.” The nomad vampire laughed like a lunatic without realizing that his prisoner had already escaped from the chain that was binding him. “That will be fun since I don’t have any.” The hunter coldly looked at the nomad while sitting on his rotten chair. “How did you…” the shock was written on the nomad vampire’s face since the hunter did it without him knowing. “How did I escape? Well, it's simple…” The hunter got up from the chair and instantly killed the nomad vampire by stabbing its heart and beheading it. “...you talk a lot.” Among the hunters, this particular man was the only one who was fully covered with dark clothing from head to toe, and that look could be compared to a ninja or an assassin. But the way he moved and dealt with his assigned tasks, he was a phenomenal elite hunter that everyone adored and favored. His name is Lemar Clarkson, known in hunter society as Clark. “Congrats, Clark. You did it again.” He was greeted by another male hunter as soon as they got back to the HGS or the Hunter Guild Society. “Well, Jin helped me a lot, that’s why we managed to finish it off quickly.” Lemar might have sounded proud, but he was still polite and humble about what he accomplished alongside his partner. “Congrats as well, Jin.” The same hunter patted Jin’s shoulder and went on his own. “Don’t mind him. Let’s go, I’m starving.” Lemar put his arms around Jin as they walked toward the cafeteria to reward themselves, but one Star Elite stopped them. “Clark, the Chief wants to speak with you.” A lady Star Elite hunter informed Lemar. “Now.” Lemar looked at Jin who nodded at him. He sighed and went on his way to meet the chief of their guild. But instead of meeting the chief in the office, Lemar started to get confused since they were heading to the morgue. “What are we doing here?” Lemar asked the lady Star Elite who had a poker face, and opened the morgue’s door for him without giving him any answer. He sighed and entered the morgue. Lemar was not sure why he was even there. But something odd happened when the chief of the hunter guild society punched and kicked Lemar but he quickly dodged and blocked. “Good, you still have in you.” The chief was coldly impressed with his skill. “What do you mean?” Lemar was confused since their chief was suddenly testing him. The chief sighed as he started telling him what happened. “She just reported her assigned task and informed me about your dinner date tonight. She was ecstatic and rushed to meet you…” Lemar’s heart rate started to increase, making him look around the morgue of their guild. “...but it was not long before we received an urgent notice about your mate, Lemar. She’s being attacked by rogues near the restaurant where you're about to meet.” Lemar understood what the chief was telling him, “No, please…you’re lying…” but he was in denial. “Clark…I mean, Lemar Clarkson, your mate died on the way to your meeting area.” The chief stepped away from a certain steel table where Lemar’s mate was lying cold. He was broken as he stared at his lover’s corpse. “But she’s a Star Elite. She’s stronger than me, so how come…impossible…” “I know but here’s the file that will give you some answer to what happened to her. But once you see it, burn it as soon as possible.” The chief handed him a black file with a red binder which Lemar already knew what it meant. “Make sure there’s no trace, and you know the reason why.” Then the chief patted his shoulder before leaving. “I’m sorry for your loss.” Being left alone in the morgue with his lover’s corpse, he was just staring at his lover’s corpse. But he wasn’t sure why no tears were falling from his eyes, yet his heart was screaming and bleeding in sorrow. He caressed his lover’s face before he decided to open and read the file quietly. Hunters’ Death Report Kim Malveda Code: Thorn Rank: Star Elite Autopsy Findings External: Deep wounds from wolf rogues all over her body caused her instant death. Autopsy Findings Internal: Three weeks and two days pregnant. Fatal Poison. Too much intake of silver and mercury caused the body to weaken and drastically kill her unborn child and herself. “She’s…oh God…she’s pregnant…is that the reason why we're having dinner tonight? Our baby…my God…what I’ve lost…” Lemar collapsed on the floor to what he had read, and he even started wondering. “But how did she intake those…she might have drunk it…” Lemar turned the page of the file which contained captured images of someone familiar to him meeting his lover. He even read the report written there, and his hands started to shake as his anger was spreading throughout his body. “What have you done…” Lemar gritted his teeth as he tried to control the burning anger in his chest and quickly left the morgue to burn what he had read. “I have to do something…” Not long after his mate's death and funeral, Lemar made himself busy and accepted different assignments from easy ones where Jin tagged along to hard tasks that he had done alone. He might have moved around as usual but working non-stop was his way to mourn and everyone understood it. Only when he was called by their chief. “Coffee?” The chief offered, which Lemar accepted before he reminded him about his health. “I know you’re still mourning, but Lemar, take a rest.” Lemar smiled sadly. “You know the reason why I can’t.” “Fine, but the DIP was already sending you to work directly for one royalty.” The chief shook his head but informed him again of the invitation from the main quarters. “I know, and I will, but not until I get what I have to do.” Lemar seriously informed the chief of his decision. “Are you sure about it? You might fall.” he was worried, but Lemar smiled at him. “Thank you for your concern, but I am falling already.” He thanked the chief, but he was already falling into his darkness. Lemar could feel it already. He was changing. “Suit yourself but come with me.” The chief gave up and decided to give him something special. “I’ll give you something.” They went into a secret passage that was connected to an underground smith which only Star Elite could enter. Lemar could sense danger around him, but the chief suddenly bared Lemar’s chest. Lemar was about to protest and fight when he was being bound by some magical chains. Then the next thing that happened was a cursing pain when he felt a very hot metal pressed on his chest even though there was none. It was very painful but Lemar endured the pain, and he was the first hunter who had a mark of DIP that had something more than a hunter. “Impressive. You’re not just a Star Elite. You’re a Moon chosen.” The chief commented, which snapped Lemar from the burning pain in his chest. “W-what do you mean?” he coughed a little. “I’m not sure how it works, but that mark on your chest is different from the other Star Elite Hunters. It's a DIP’s mark.” He informed him what he only knew about the mark on his chest. “You know DIP. Only the chosen one can understand it.” Lemar’s eyes started to get blurry and dizzy. “I’m feeling drowsy…” “Rest, you needed it.” the chief flicked his forehead and Lemar was out. “Take him to his chamber. Things will be different once he wakes up.” Lemar was in his deep sleep when he started sweating and groaning. He began tossing and turning around the bed as his heart rate began to increase rapidly. Then his bone began cracking as if it was shifting into something he had never encountered before, but he woke up to the sound of alarm. “f**k!” Lemar quickly jumped off his bed and quickly geared up into his hunter suit, forgetting what his body had just gone through in his sleep. As soon as he got out, every hunter that he passed was in a rush. He clicked his tongue because he didn’t like what suddenly happening in their guild and decided to check his chief. “Chief, what’s going on?” Lemar entered the room filled with the remaining star elite. “Finally, you’re awake.” The chief smiled as a warcry happened outside their premises. “What’s going on?” he confusedly asked. “You’ll know later.” one of the Star Elite smiled as she answered him. “Last mission from me, Star Elite will not be serving the hunter guild society anymore, but you’re assigned to work with those packs, herds, and clans. Make sure to reach them before they get you. You will know who they are.” the chief stated his last mission to them as he handed a piece of telegram. “Understood, chief.” they all saluted, including Lemar. “And lay low until the rightful HGS comes rises. I’m counting on you.” the chief reminded them and looked over the window behind his desk. “Chief,” Lemar called out. “Clark, you are free from the guild’s binding. But remember, all of you worked for DIP, and they will know what’s happening to you. Dismiss.” The chief was proud to work with them and dismissed them. “Lemar, you know who.”
