2: WITCH AMONG WOLVES

1998 Words
When that was said, Lemar was immediately pulled out by the other Star Elite hunters. They all read the telegram that was only for them to know and as they nodded at each other, they started burning the letter. Without saying anything else, they all run out of the guild without being seen or detected but something is bothering Lemar. “Can you tell me what’s going on?” Lemar asked them while they were dashing out to the wall of their falling guild. “Betrayal.” one of them answered. “Spread out and don’t look back. Keep moving to the assigned task.” As the first Star Elite hunter commanded them, they gave each other a respectful salute before heading in different directions. Lemar could hear some dying cries alongside the roars of the monsters attacking the guild. He wanted to help but the last command was absolute. “f**k, I’m no longer bound to the hunters,” Lemar growled to himself as he saved one to five of his colleagues by slashing the throat and the chest of either wolves or vampires but there was a dot resting on his back. He sensed it. “The guild isn’t safe anymore.” He told them. “Run and never look back. Be safe.” Then he dashed away from them. Lemar pressed his way out of the falling guild and quickly climbed up the wall without being seen. Yet, the dot was still marked on his back and a shot was being released. But he was not an ordinary elite hunter anymore - he was a star elite and turned his body to slice the bullet before proceeding on his run. But he was not that far when he was tackled by a strong wolf rogue. “f**k!” He clicked his tongue in annoyance and quickly got up from being tackled before running again. But the rogues began hunting him. He was getting irritated by their persistence causing him to use his skill while running away from them. He either gives them a quickly stunning punch or kicks before running away again but a disturbing shot manages to hit his shoulder. “SHIT.” He groaned from the shut but it didn’t stop him from moving away again. But the same wolf rogue who tackled him before did the same thing again to him. “DAMMIT.” But instead of staying on the ground or running, they both stumbled down the slope while still fighting. The wolf rogue clawed his arms and Lemar gave it a slicing counter over its chest. But nothing could stop them from killing each other until Lemar groaned in pain as the wolf rogue bit the same spot where he was shot. At that moment, Lemar took the opportunity to stab its neck to make sure it would be headless. As the wolf rogue died above him, he pushed the wolf over the cliff while panting. “What a stumble.” He muttered while standing up when he was shot, again. “s**t…” The rain started pouring down as the shot landed on his back causing him to fall to his knees. Lemar turned to throw his danger and killed the hunter who shot him. But another was shot over his chest making him fall on the ground. “Still alive.” A taunting voice from a very familiar hunter caused Lemar to sternly look at him. “Don’t give me that look. Everything is because of you.” Lemar coughed yet managed to say something, “Why you…” but he could not finish it anymore as he was shot into his head. “You will no longer know about it.” A sinister chuckle escaped from the man who killed Lemar before commanding his men. “Drop him to the end of the cliff.” Lemar might be losing consciousness but he could remember the last glimpse of the hunter who betrayed everyone in the guild, the only man who killed him. As he was thrown to the cliff, thunder went louder and the lightning also struck the sky making the storm more frightening than usual. The harsh flow of the river where Lemar was being dumped cloaked his body as it began cracking. His old bones were breaking into a million pieces as they changed into something new while his muscles stretched and strengthened making his wounds heal yet leaving old scars. Even his blood began rushing in adrenaline throughout his entire body, causing his heart to beat once again then his eyes shot open. “Mate…” a sudden deep growl escaped from Lemar before letting himself drift to the shore. On the other side of the same land, there were peaceful living wolves called Moonstar Howlers Pack. It was ruled by one of the royal wolf-shifter families called the Groban. Among the Groban family, there was a white-haired witch that they’d adopted and she was wandering around near the shore of their border. ‘Mate…’ She looked around upon hearing the whispering voice of a man calling her his mate. She got the urge to search where it was coming from but before she could wander even further around the shore, she jolted. There was a sudden authoritative but worried voice from alpha and her adoptive father, Mitchel Groban boomed in the head of the white-haired witch. ‘JENNIE SAGE GROBAN, WHERE ARE YOU AGAIN?!’ “I’m at the shore. Taking a breather.” She responded with an annoyed tone as she rolled her eyes away. ‘Come back here. We need your help.’ “You can handle it without -” she could not finish her words since her father and alpha shouted again as if he were on the edge. ‘NOW, JENNIE! IT’S A SERIOUS MATTER.’ “Fine. I’ll be there in a second.” She sighed as she rolled her eyes and vanished on the spot. But somewhere not far from her spot, there was the unconscious body of a male who was slowly regaining consciousness. The man slowly got up while groaning, and he was welcomed by loud noises, some mixed scents from the gashing river, moist ground, trees, and blood. He snapped and quickly got up, then started wandering around like a past dead creature - a zombie. “Food…” He muttered weakly before coughing and limping as he headed to the woods. “I need to feed.” Back at the mansion of the Moonstar Howlers pack, Jennie Sage appeared inside and quickly headed to where she needed to be. Jennie was not the shifter that the Groban family adopted, but she grew up as one of the wolf shifters. She had an intimidating aura that anyone cowered if they stared too much but still respected what she did for the pack. “Greetings, Lady Jennie.” one of the servants she came across greeted her. “Is Dad in his office?” she wondered with her gentleness-like nature. “Yes and at the edge.” The servant responded. “Edge?” she curiously wondered. “Yes, my Lady.” The servant confirmed it, and she nodded before she proceeded on her way. As she reached the alpha’s office, Jennie didn’t knock or give any warning to her father and just entered. “You can at least knock before entering my office.” Mitchel almost jumped on his seat when Jennie suddenly came inside without knocking. He was indeed at the edge. “Sorry, but I can’t promise I won’t be doing that again.” Jennie sarcastically responded, which was nothing new whenever she talked back to her father. “So, why need my help?” “There’s a ruckus among the hunters and I hope you’ll strengthen the barrier you put around the pack since we don’t want any disturbance around our land.” Mitchel went seriously to the point of why Jennie was being called. Jennie nodded before wondering about any add-ons. “I can do that. Anything else?” “Wounded rogues stumbled on our land, and I’m not sure if they are still alive after the burn that their body just received.” he sighed and added what their gamma just found around their border. “I’ll check on them.” Jennie got up from her seat and was about to leave the office when her father added something that irked her mood. “Don’t forget your marriage,” he added out of the blue, and Jennie did not like the sound of it. “How many times should I decline what you were saying to me, Mitchel?” she sternly said and opened the door harshly. “Jennie.” He warned her, but Jennie was pissed. “Whatever, Dad.” She left without looking back. “Stubborn,” Mitchel commented. “Just like you” Zamarah, the Luna chuckled in amusement at how the father and daughter talked to each other. Jennie might have a heart of gold like a gentle nature, but whenever it comes to the matter of her heart, she easily got offended and pissed off. She decided to check the perimeter to strengthen the pack’s barrier before she checked the hunters that were sent to their pack’s hospital. “Are they the hunters that the gamma sent here?” she asked as soon as she was being approached and greeted by the nurse. “Yes, but they need some surgery over the open wounds from the intense battle they went through,” the nurse answered. “Are they done now?” she wondered. “They were still inside the ER.” she sighed as she grabbed some medical supplies that were needed in the emergency room. “Okay, notify me if they are done, and make sure to observe them closely.” She patted the nurse’s shoulder. “I will, Lady Jennie.” The nurse responded with a slight bow before rushing to the emergency room. Jennie looked over her wristwatch before sighing. “It's close to dawn.” Before the sun could touch the earthly ground, Jennie Sage decided to stroll around and calm herself, or she might end up doing something she’d regret later. That’s another thing about Jennie Sage, she needed to rest whenever the stress was getting the best of her because if she didn’t, she might kill someone near her or maybe the entire pack. As Jennie was walking, to ease her tension or stress, she noticed some patrollers doing their assigned jobs but shivered when they bumped into her. One of the patrollers who was not looking collided with her before shouting. “WATCH IT WILL YOU -!” but he was quickly being hit on the back of his head. They were quivering since Jennie was very intimidating whenever she was not having any expression. “Sorry, you’re Highness, we didn’t see you there.” One of them quickly apologized when they realized who they bumped into. “It’s okay.” Jennie was very calm and gentle like nature as she politely spoke to them before heading to her cabin. “Just go back to your stroll, I’ll be in my cabin.” “That was close.” The one who shouted at her sighed in relief before thanking his peers. “Thanks guys for helping me there.” “I can barely look at her.” Another one commented. “She still intimidating.” The other said with a slight chuckle. “We have to get used to it like our seniors.” Another one said as they went back to their patrol. But what they didn’t sense, Jennie Sage was still near them and heard everything that they said. “Heh, I'm used to that reaction whenever they meet me.” She might have been amused but just shrugged. “Oh well, I have to relax or else I might suck their life away if I snap.”
