Chapter Two In which he tried something new. - Kye found one fact in his investigation: Page Asvette is interesting. From the pictures sent to Kye, he easily spotted how Page loved the sun. She had spent numerous vacations on the beach and anything tropical. Instead of grabbing some lunch with his friends, K found himself leaning into a tree while watching Page’s reaction change every five minutes. However, it seemed like the sun didn’t quite like her. It was her PE class, and it is unfortunate to her book a subject that was also the time when the sun was shining so bright. There were still three laps that she needed to finish, but she already looked like she was about to pass out in running seven laps around that vast field. “Page, you okay?” A frown settled into K’s face upon seeing a bunch of males walking in her direction. She is a freshman and from another town. Having spent a year in this place, K knew just how much most men in the Engineering Department would usually playgirls like they were fiddles. It was already automatic that she would get flirted on with her looks. K would often look for weakness in people, but even he could not stand it when a group of three men would try to intimidate a first-year student. He doesn’t usually involve himself in this type of scenario, but upon seeing the discomfort on her face, he slowly pushed himself away from the tree. “We could help you,” one of the goons invited. Page rolled her eyes, “I have a boyfriend. I have told you about this.” Chasen paused from his walk, catching her phrase quite quickly in the distance between them. His lips could protest a burst of laughter to her words. It was amusing to see her use that card. Everyone who had lived for more than a year in their life could see the lie sipping through her lips. She couldn’t lie for the world—that’s for sure. “Then how come we haven’t seen this boyfriend of yours?” Another guy laughed, walking towards her, “I could—” “Move the f**k away from her? Yes, you could. If I were to suggest a time, now would be a good one,” K continued the words, glaring at the man. “Before I break that arm off.” While Kye do not have the same reputation in this school as he did back in High School, he could still see the same fear cast on their faces. With his words alone, they backed away a bit. He quickly takes the spot next to Page, with little to no dispute from the three. Page looked at him carefully, a tiny speck of surprise etched on her face. Kye was amused at her reactions. Despite how cool and tough she acts outside, Page is obviously how precious and innocent she is. “K? But you’re—” He quickly looked at the man who had talked, urging him to continue. When he did not even bother to continue, Kye continued for them. “I am her boyfriend, didn’t you hear? She has one. Me.” “I—” Quickly swirling Page back to me, Kye noticed how her eyes widened upon possibly thinking that he was planning to kiss her here. Since Page was having a hard time processing into seeing Kye so soon, added by the fatigue she felt running through her laps, Kye had the advantage to play the game in any way that he wanted to. It was an excellent time to catch up with her. Looking towards the group of males looking at Page, he raised a brow upon seeing them gawking at them in wonder. “You are all still here?” They didn’t need another word to run towards the field, leaving both of them alone. Only when they all dispersed did Page settle what she was feeling inside—simply stepping on his foot. It hurt Kye, but he chooses to smile through the attempt. From what he noticed, Page enjoys inflicting pain when she can’t verbally act through the scenario given to her. “You are my boyfriend?” She grumbled, catching her breath with every word. “Are you kidding me? Why would I even like a p*****t?” Kye shrugged. “Would you rather have them talk to you here? Because I can—” “No, wait—” her hands pulled him in, and he almost flinched at the action. Kye looked at the arm resting on his, unaware of what he should do. He could not even remember when he allowed another female to hold him, let alone someone he had just met a couple of days ago. One of Kye Cohen’s rules? No woman is allowed to touch him. Before he could pull Page’s arm away from him, he paused. Kye could quickly notice someone’s fear. For Page to look this distressed, it must have been wrong. He made a mental note to have Lucas be aware of this, as his family owns the school. “Don’t do that. I…” she fidgets before slowly pulling her arms away from him. “I’m thankful. So don’t do that.” With a smile, Kye moved my face close to hers in a swift. His action alone made her jump slightly and slowly; her eyes grew wide again. Kye could see the struggle in her mouth, possibly trying to form her words, but she seemed to have difficulty letting it out. Kye could hardly stop the chuckle to escape his lips, pinching her left cheeks ever so slowly. “Here,” he offered his hand, beckoning to her wrist. “Give me your bracelet.” Confused as she was, Page did what she was asked to do. Since it was something easy enough for her to accomplish—and simply because she hated anything physical. The bracelet serves as a monitor that students need to tap in specific locations in the field. As a requirement in the physical class, all students must complete the exact number of laps around the thing. Kye was the first to finish this requirement, as this was something that he enjoyed doing. “What are you doing?” He put the bracelet on, slowly stretching his body. “I’ll finish your laps for you.” “Why would you do that?” “To have you to listen to my proposition.” While Page was still trying to understand what he meant by the words, Kye had already departed. He ran all around the field, tapping his wrist on specific areas without much of a sweat. Page looked at him in confusion, trying her best to understand the man who had walked into her life. If she didn’t need to finish the lap before her class ended, she would never have let him do this for her. “Done,” Kye announced, ripping the silver band carefully. He twirled it around his finger, focused on the woman who was still breaking a sweat. Page nodded, patting the seat next to hers, which would allow him to talk things to her. She was busy wiping her sweat while letting Kye take the time he needed. “I need you to pretend to be my girlfriend.” She scoffed. “Yeah, about that… that is a hard pass.” “Okay.” The answer seemed to grab her attention, looking towards Kye in confusion. The wheels inside her brain were slowly running their gears upon the quick admission of defeat. Not only that, but who in the world would run three laps and accept flat-out rejection like that? Kye knows exactly who that’ll be. One who got everything in control—him. Naturally, Kye also didn’t plan to have her listen to his preposition before everything was ready, but it just happened that she needed some help earlier than he intended. While that was clear and open, Kye wondered why he was doing this. He didn’t know why he had chosen to spend his lunchtime running around the tracks for a woman who he knew would easily reject his words. “What are you planning, p*****t?” Page asked, raising a brow. “What do you mean?” “You ran three laps just to accept my no?” He nodded, which further confused his own mind. Kye couldn’t think of a reason why he was doing this, too. “Just like… that?” She inquired, clearly not getting in with the program. Kye nodded again. Slowly handing her the bracelet, Kye lets out a small farewell to Page. She looked at his back, clearly wondering what she had gotten himself into. Peeking at the silver bracelet, Page did not catch herself smiling. Unaware that for that split second, Kye Cohen already got her.
