Chapter Twelve

There are things that are always unexpected.

Emmi Parker’s Point of View

The view kept changing.

I was not aware of where we were going or how long have I slept. The last thing I was aware of was the fact that I am not familiar with the place. My mind woke up when we hit a bump, causing the driver to apologize to me. To be frank, I was slightly grateful that I was awoken. I kept my eyes busy to hang into nothing that would make things familiar, but nothing ever did.

From the look of things, It seemed like my wolf had run quite long to lose my pack.

As she should.

My wolf seemed hazy in the changing sites, but I knew that I was safe with my mate. There was some discussion between him and his warriors that I do not want to meddle further. I can admit that there are still things that I am not very knowledgeable about in terms of being a Luna. That is something that I have to learn about.

“We also need to commence a meeting about the new pack members,” Kaiden muttered, having me look at him in surprise. He quickly caught my stare, flashing a smile that automatically made me copy his expression. “Can I help you, Angel?”

I chuckled, blushing at his smile. “I did not know that there would be new pack members.”

“There would be. I am sorry that I did not have you aware of this issue.” Kaiden carefully handed me a folder, and I fidget, surprised to be trusted to hold such an important document. He beckoned me to open it, having me see several people on the list. “That’s not the members of the pack that we are meeting today, but the list of rogues and some pack members who wanted to transfer in our pack.”

I acknowledge the added information as I scanned the vast amount of people in here. Maybe it was because of the usual number in my pack, but everything in her is... slowly shifting my eyes back to my mate, I asked. “The pack seemed to be full. Can we give shelter for these people?”

“There is still a lot of lot available in the pack, and we are not accepting all,” Kaiden replied with a sigh. It seemed that he felt terrible about not having space for all these werewolves looking for another home. “Unfortunately, I needed to scan who will be fitted into the job that I am looking for. I believe that humans call this a job interview.”

One of the warriors nodded. “We did lose a lot of people last time.”

“It is easier that way.” The other replied.

I only frowned, looking at the number of people on this list. Maybe I am just surprised to see people on such a large scale because I live in a tiny pack, but it seemed too much. I think these people are half of the people in my pack. “And what’s the purpose of the meeting with the Alpha?” I asked, looking at him. Kaiden seemed surprised at my tone, and I flinched, sitting straight. “I am sorry, I just—”

He shook his head, carefully placing his hand on my shoulder to soothe me down. “Do not apologize. I am just surprised about your voice. It seemed like you were slowly accepting your role. We have an Alpha who needed some aid, and we are there to know if they are beneficial for us to help.”

As the car continued to stroll in the road, my eyes were glued to the list of people. They were categorized in their skills, but I still do not know what my mate is looking for. Before I could ask what he was looking for, the car had stopped. It seemed to be a very modern coffee shop—humans and rogues were all around the area. Some conflicts were going through with my mate, knowing the danger that I could be from the second that we had slipped outside of this room. Even still, leaving me in the car could pose some daring threats.

Leaning in, I quickly soothe his feelings. “I am safer on your side.”

“Right. Of course, you are.” He nodded, his hold on me growing tight but in a tense that did not hurt me. As his eyes flashed on mine, he carefully lay a small smile. “Thank you, but you know how dangerous my reputation is. I would hate to tear the whole realm apart.”

The door opened, letting Kaiden get out of the car. His exterior inside the pack was long gone as he appeared dangerous. Those soft eyes grew fierce, and his body looked much taller than I was used to. Kaiden Wright is one of the powerful Alphas to exist, and I can not believe that I almost forgot about that. Everyone had gawk in his direction the second he made himself noticeable. The humans were blatantly appreciating his beauty and the rogues quickly realized who he was. As his hands extended into mine, I had revealed myself to the people.

—and all his opponents.

“You all know who is your priority,” Kaiden's voice ringed through the link, making me flinch in his tone. Noticing that I was part of the link, he holds me close as we enter the coffee house. “We should have visited the house first. A lot of rogues are in here.”

A small woman walked in our direction with a smile, offering a small menu in her hands. Poor child. She seemed to be shaking. This one is a human, terrified of those who are visiting this coffee house. I feel bad for her, having to catch a job in the middle of neutral lands. Even if she wasn't aware of who she was serving, Kaiden has a dangerous presence. Someone as weak as this human could easily sense how dangerous he is.

“Thank you,” I muttered, accepting her menu as she fought the urge to cry. “You can come back later when we’re ready to order.”

She quickly agreed, bowing much lower than she was supposed to. “T… thank you.”

Looking to my side, I quickly shook her head as Kaiden pulled me closer. If I saw him with this expression first, I would be reacting in the same manner. Kaiden is nice and warm to my face because he is my mate. The man needed to appear dangerous when he is outside his pack because he is an Alpha. It serves as a warning to those who were surrounding him.

“Where is that, Alpha? If he’s one second late, I am leaving.” Kaiden muttered.

Wanting to ease his mind, I created a lie. “But I want to order coffee.”

“Of course,” He replied, quickly kissing the top of my head.

The second that the clock strikes to the time that was talked about, a car had stopped into the cafe house. Kaiden ease up, letting me aware that this was the person that we are waiting for. Another second passed, and a man escaped the door. A tall man walked out the door with bright green hair. He looked worried, almost at the edge. Despite how his mannerism showed, he had no problem walking up to the door.

I feel like being handsome is a requirement for an Alpha.

As I had felt a slight tingle in my side, I jumped. Kaiden pulled me closer to his arms, his brows formed in a way that speaks his annoyance. My confusion was cut short the second that I saw how his warriors were hiding their laughter, making me aware that my thoughts were being loud enough for everyone to hear.

Oops.

“We will talk about that small feeling of yours later, My Luna.” He whispered with such a dangerous tone as I chuckled lightly. The grin on his face was a challenge as the Alpha walked in our direction, not making me look at his face as I pulled the menu to cover my beat red face. Kaiden stood up, offering his hand. “You must be Alpha Jasper.”

“I apologize for arriving late, Alpha. Another attack had almost occurred before I was bout to leave, and I needed to mend my warriors.”

Even his voice seemed handsome.

But it was new to hear that an Alpha was that worried for a pack. Our old Alpha would prioritize his safety over any pack members. He is that f*****g useless.

“That is fine,” Kaiden replied to his words as if he had not been grumbling about it for minutes.

“I am very thankful for your approval of this meeting, Alpha Kaiden.”

“I am sure that my mate is very thankful, too.” Kaiden breathes. My lips bubbled a soft chuckle, looking at him to see the mischief was swirling along with his eyes. He really does play too much, but I am glad that he had let that go and choose to focus solely on entertaining our guests. “How did the situation look on your end?”

“There are some werewolves who are attacking my pack, but it not the usual rogues that we would have in the sighting.” He quickly muttered as he sat down. Alpha Jasper has this tint of anger written in his eyes as she states this.

Kaiden nodded as he grabbed a folder. “Do they look like this?”

The Alpha looked surprised. “It’s not just happening in my pack?” Alpha Jasper questioned.

“I am afraid not.” He frowned as he sighed. “But this does make things easy for me to know that I can help you get rid of them.”

My hand dived into my temple as the waiter seemed terrified by the sound of their voices. I do not know if I was used to this not to get spooked at their Alpha tones, but she seemed like she was about to cry.

Alpha Jasper looked at the woman, and she flinched. He did not seem to mind as he grumbled his order. The tone that he has is nothing but strict. “I’ll have a flat white.”

“O—of course, sir.”

I sighed. “You are both a danger to humans.”

“We are.” They both agreed.

My eyes scanned the number of rogues that were spotting us. Seeing Kaiden to my side had already had them tied, but another Alpha seemed to be a dangerous mission. They could not control being anything but intimidating outside their pack as it would protect them in more ways than one.

But why do I feel like something terrible is going on?

Why do some rogues seem like they had not ordered coffee for the past thirty minutes?

A soft sigh escaped my lips. It seemed like I would finally see my mate in action.

This will not end well.
