Chapter Eleven Duties of a Luna Emmi Parker’s Point of View My eyes were glossed on the paper. I have been reading for days on end, wanting to know the history of this place like I could not just ask Kaiden about everything. However, I also do not want to be someone who just questions everything and ended up offending him. I wanted to actually try and understand him and his family better than I have from before. Other than that, I do enjoy learning things at my own pace. This was embedded in me the second I was forced to do everything I could to attain my mother’s dream. I used to think that this was a curse, but I found a use for this skill. “So he is much tamer than the last persecutors,” I mumbled, flipping through the page. From what I initially thought, their books are much different from the ones that were given to us. One could see how much bullshit was written to elicit fear. I do not even know why they needed to. Leighton Wright was ferocious, and his conquests were bloody. I could not believe that we were all captured by lies. All the notes that I have were completely answered in the books. One could see the very reason for each attack and all the supposed “evil” things the pack had ever done to others. The ones who had suffered most and received such a good pity for others were the ones they annihilated. From the reason that Mr. Wright has, I think being able to breathe in this time without this pack completely wiping them into smithereens is also considered as being nice. “You’re still reading that?” I jumped. Looking back to my mate, I was suddenly made aware of just how focused my brain was. My wolf and I even failed to sense that he was near. His eyes were peering into my notebook and chuckled as I had dunked all of my worried from before. The books stored inside this place were all laced with pieces of evidence of their words, so I had nothing to worry about anyone. After all, for the pack to be considered an evil pack... everyone seemed happy. “I never have seen anyone take notes when learning history.” He said, amused. My lips pulled into a pout. “It makes sense when I write out my thoughts from before and writing the reason that will speak credit to what Mr. Wright had done. Not only that, but I could see a pattern of lies that were directed to your father.” “I am glad that you seemed more comfortable with him,” Kaiden whispered. Tilting my head to the side, I frowned at the words. “Have I ever acted differently to your father?” Despite the fear, I was sure that I did not make him uncomfortable. After all, I am used to respecting people even with fear attached to my skin. Keeping it frank, I was made to submit. My career made a clear example of that. I do think that’s why that creepy Alpha thought he had a chance with me because I was being civil. “No, I did not mean it like that.” He quickly threw all the negative ideas that I had, probably aware that I was now scared of offending his father. “But I know that there is some fear inside of you. While dad never really cared if anyone sees him as evil, I know that it will bug him to have his only daughter-in-law in that attitude.” His only daughter-in-law. The tone of the words made me feel proud, and I know that’s just the work of the link. People might say that I am making excuses for all the things they have done—but I am sure that I am making the right decision. Leighton was only doing what his job entails from what it looks like. He was forced to attack people because they were considered dangerous to the realm. The royal persecutor was saving everyone. He was considered a monster because he was strong, that is all. My lips pulled a smile, beaming at the thought. “Your father seemed great. I am privileged to have the title of his being only daughter-in-law.” Kaiden seemed relieved to hear that, and I had a small glimpse of his wolf. It did not linger as much as I wanted to, but it was good to see that he was acknowledging me too. Looking at the man before my eyes made me pause. I put a small distance between us, making him raise a brow in response. I finally realized that he seemed different today. His hair that was usually kept down was now slick up. The clothes he was wearing seemed to be formal attire, different from the casual clothes that he had been wearing these days. Kaiden is dressed well to roam around the pack and brawl with some potential warriors. So that means one thing. “Where are you going?” I asked. Kaiden acknowledges my fast thinking with a smirk. My body shuddered by the view, seeing the sexy aura gathering around my mate. He is handsome, and his toned body added to his appeal. But to see him let out a smirk spirals a lot of thought inside my wolf. A soft growl escaped his lips, quickly noticing my reaction. “Damn,” he breathes, slowly closing his eyes to control himself. I know that I needed to help him ease his mind, but I could see the scar more clearly with his hair slick back. I understand why he always needed to let his hair down when he was in the pack, as it covered most of his scar. “You seemed bothered by it.” I nodded, my free hand holding on to his arm. “My wolf wanted to claw the eyes of whoever done this to you.” “That’s already handled with, Angel. My father had already f****d him up beyond recognition.” He mused, pressing a kiss to my forehead. The words seemed easy to say for him. “There is some issue that I needed to fix. A meeting is requested and I am needed to attend.” Softly pulling my hands away from his face, I blankly let him continue his words. Alphas are always inclined to attend gatherings, especially one that suggests their audience. But I am sure that it is rare for an Alpha to visit pack, and I was convinced that it could only happen once the one who asked for assistance is in the middle of a war and in need of troops. Whenever a meeting is set to occur regarding both packs, they need to meet in the middle and have some mutual talk. “How long will you be gone?” My voice is but a whisper, careful not to elicit any other reaction. I know that I have been spending away from him these couple of days, but knowing that he will be a touch away from us made me uneasy. Having him away from me for way too long will be hard on me. It was the bond that would usually do that. I let a small noise the second he leaned down, only inches away from my face. His scent seemed stronger in this distance, and those gentle eyes looked at me with such adoration. “Do you want to come with me?” the question was careful, but his tone made it seem like he was a siren that was luring me to follow all his commands. With nothing but a frail voice, I answered. “I could?” Kaiden was happy with my answer. I could not tell whether it was the answer itself or how I let my emotion dripped through that two small words. He was aware of just how much I wanted to be with him. “I am sure you will love the place.” He remarked, slowly keeping his body straight. Kaiden was looking down on me, and my neck was craned to gawk at him. “And I wanted to take you with me anyway.” My mind gushed with adoration. I liked him when he’s roughed up, but seeing him all dressed up was making me look like a fool. Even still, I could not help it. Many people in our pack gushed how they were excited to see their mates and would comment that I must have a handsome mate to pair with. I never really cared before, but they were right. “My mate is so handsome and cool.” Kaiden let out a loud laugh, hands holding me close. “Your thoughts leaked out, Angel.” “And how long are we leaving?” Despite already feeling how bad my face was heating up, I changed the conversation. Kaiden smiled, happiness radiating from him. “No more than two days.” Two days with Kaiden. While we had been living in the same house, we hardly had any time with only ourselves. My wolf was jumping inside of me, knowing that we were both pumped to be in a place with Kaiden. I am sure that we will be able to build nothing but memories there. “I will go pack.” I grinned, closing my book as I stand from my chair. Kaiden only mimicked my expression as he holds me close. “We should also tell the girls. I am sure that they will tell me that I am already k********g you into their care.” “They are awfully busy these days,” I called. He nodded, eyes growing dark. “For our pack always has some potential attacks, it is not bad to train them when they are still young. That is why I wanted you to learn some tricks up your sleeve when you are prepared enough.” Kaiden was hinting at something, but I was too excited to see it.
