Air Hero

Max never thinks about this problem before, but now, after experiencing it himself, he knows how embarrassing it is. What is in his mind whenever a hero walking down the street is how amazing or incredible they are.

Right now, Max truly embarrassed to be wearing the costume. He didn’t realize it before, but right now, he has become the centre of attention because of his appearance. There’re many heroes, but not many walked down the streets in their costume.

Most of the heroes walked down the street in their casual outfit, and only when they are nearing a crime scene or their mission area will they change into their hero costume. Max can see the children pointing their fingers at him and their parents that laughed at him secretly.

However, if he goes back to change his clothes and goes back to the park, it will be too late, so he just walked straight without looking left or right as fast as he can to reach the park. When he arrived, he can immediately see Kalina sitting on a bench while eating soybean milk and deep-fried dough sticks.

“Oh, you’re here. I see that you’re on your costume already. How is it? Do you like it?”

Seeing the smile on Kalina’s face, Max already knows that what she is interested in, is how the people reacts. She already knows that Max will like the costume since it was something that she picked.

“Stop teasing me, big sis. All the people on the road are basically pointing fingers at me.”

“Well, so, how does it feel to be a hero? Isn’t that something that you should already anticipate when you want to become a hero? Attention from the people is totally normal.”

Max remembered his childhood watching heroes on the TV. In the end, wasn’t it was something that he wanted to be? In the end, if he gets a high enough ranking, he will be on the TV too. Wearing his costume and doing heroic acts is something that he needs to be prepared for.

“I still couldn’t believe that I am a hero now. But, I guess, I need to get used to children pointing fingers at me.”

“If your parents are here, they must be proud of you. Anyway, as their representative and your big sister, I should be the one saying this. I’m proud of you. Look at you now. You’ve grown so big and become a hero.”

Kalina then patted Max, who is now already taller than her. Yet, she can still remember when she met him. With his lonely appearance and broken heart, she glad that she reached out to him that day.

Max unknowingly let a tear to drop from his eye. Looking at Kalina in front of him, he feels many emotions inside of him. Gratitude is the shortest way to put it, but in fact, it is more than that.

“Alright, aren’t you curious for the reason I called you out this early?”

“Oh yeah. Big sis, before that, do you prepare my breakfast too? Don’t tell me you only buy one portion of soybean milk and deep-fried dough sticks!”

“You’re totally right about that. I only buy one portion. Mmm, how delicious. Anyway, I am here to talk about something important with you. This could be considered as the life and death of your hero career.”

Hearing Kalina said that Max is curious about why Kalina called him out this early, not to mention it should be something serious.

“Right now, we’re going to determine your hero’s name.”

“Hero’s name?”

“Yes, that’s correct. You couldn’t possibly think of becoming a hero with the name of Max, right? Not to mention the name Max is already taken by another hero. Not to mention this hero’s name will stick with you till the end of your career. Think about Mighty Red and Captain Green. They are popular not only because of their heroic acts and cool costume that anyone can recognize at first sight. Their name is equally important as it is easy to remember. You don’t think that Mighty Red real name will be ‘Mighty Red’ too, right?”

Hearing about Kalina’s explanation, Max start to think that a hero’s name is equally important to their costume. For once, Max’s costume is unique as it already attracted the children's fingers on the street to point at him. Now, the only thing that the children haven’t know about him is his name. If they know about it, who knows if one day Max could become their role model?

“By the way, how’s the costume? It’s good, right?”

“Yes. I like it very much, big sis. Thank you.”

“Okay. Do you have any idea on what name to use?”

“How about using my full name? Max Air?”

“Are you dumb or what? If you are using your real name, when you get involved with a villain in the future, they might be looking for you. There is a reason why Mighty Red uses costume and hero’s name when he is still active as a hero. If not, Mighty Red won’t be able to sleep peacefully at night due to the number of villains who want to take revenge on him. Even until now, they are still looking for him.”

“Then, do you have any idea on what name should I use?”

Max, honestly doesn’t have any idea on what hero name should he use. When he is roleplaying as a hero when he is still small, he is roleplaying as the heroes themselves, such as Captain Green. Right now, as he has become a hero, he needs a name for himself.

“Hmm. How about Air? You said that Max is already taken, right?”

“Silly. Does your brain couldn’t think more creatively or what? However, it is simple and got my approval. It is too short though. Hmm. Air Hero. How about that? Adding a hero after air surely makes it more presentable.”

“Air Hero?”

Max think for a moment, and the name doesn’t feel childish at all. Although adding hero after air could be said to be simple, but it is pleasant to the ears.

“Okay. It’s been decided. From now on, whenever you greeted anyone on the street while wearing this costume or catching villains, tell them that your name is Air Hero.”
