I sat in the back of the van, parked in a little alleyway where I could see the charity gala. It was being held in the Royal Garden Hotel in the Hollywood Room. The convention room featured floor-to-ceiling windows along the western side, allowing me to see inside though it was hard to make out details at that distance.
As for Chloe, she was on her way to the gala in a rather different conveyance. I swiveled around on my stool in the back of the van so I could check her camera feed. Right now all it showed was the leather upholstery of a rented limo.
I reached up and pressed a button on my headset to activate it. After three beeps, I heard the sounds from inside the limo. Mostly the wheels, the engine, and her breathing.
