“You are my mate,” he said it so casually as if it weren’t something to be alarming. “It is up to you if you shall accept or reject me.”
Azmira gritted her teeth, staring at the man with all his glory, with the water falling down aggressively beside him.
He’s a Dragon.
It is not in his nature to be with water, but for some reason, he still looked all mighty.
Azmira clenched her fists, the weight of his words pressing down on her like the mist curling from the waterfall’s rage. Her heart pounded—not just from the declaration but from the sheer presence of him. His golden eyes burned, unwavering, waiting. He had said it so simply, as if it did not shake the very foundation of her world.
She swallowed, her throat dry despite the damp air. “And what if I reject you?” she asked, her voice sharper than she intended. She didn’t know what answer she wanted.
The Dragon did not flinch. “Then I will leave.” He tilted his head slightly, his dark hair damp from the mist. “I will not force a bond that is unwanted.”
A scoff left her lips before she could stop it. “Just like that?”
His lips curved slightly, not quite a smile, not quite mockery. “You think a Dragon incapable of restraint?” He stepped closer, his presence swallowing the space between them, heat rolling from his body like an unseen force. “You may not know this yet, little flame, but fate is not so easily denied. You can reject me, but your soul will always recognize mine.”
Azmira exhaled sharply, her pulse betraying her as it thundered in her chest. She did not want this. She had not asked for it. Yet, staring at him, she felt a strange pull—ancient and deep, like the river carving its way through stone.
He waited.
And once again, Azmira did not know if she wanted to run—or step closer.
