The Mating GameUpdated at Oct 6, 2021, 19:05
The Earth as we know it has been destroyed during a nuclear world hundreds of years ago, and the human race is dying out. Children are scarce, and the world depends on six breeding islands outside of the Radiation Zone to keep humankind alive. The heroine of The Mating Game lives on one of the breeding islands.
Addison was two years old when she was taken from the Radiation Zone and brought to an island in the Pacific, where she has been raised in a containment camp for the last eighteen years. She has never had contact with any men and has been raised by women who are not related to her for one reason and one reason only to reproduce.
At age twenty, Addison has reached breeding age, and it is time for her to join her mating group, where she and two other women will have intercourse with their male leader to create offspring. Addison will never be a mother, she will never have a marriage, and she will never have a home. Once she becomes pregnant, she will be with her child for one year, and then she will be moved into another mating group. This cycle will continue until menopause which at that time she will either become a nonviable and take care of the young girls in the containment camp, or she will be banished to the Radiation Zone. Addison is a prisoner in her own life.
Aaron is the leader of Addison’s current mating group, and he has loved and lost once before, and he refuses to develop feelings for any of the women in his group because he knows the end game. This is a duty to him. He must perform his job, or the elders on the island will punish his entire mating group. Aaron will never see, hold, or meet any of his children. Once a female in his group becomes pregnant, she and the unborn child will be taken away. Every year Aaron will receive a new group of women he is to impregnate, and this cycle will continue until the day Aaron dies.
