“Sir, the sales have gone down by a hundred and fifty percent,” Gana, my secretary, informed me about the sales and performance of the company for the past month. I looked at her with narrowed eyes. “A hundred and what?” I asked in disbelief. I had an idea on what I thought I heard but I want to believe that I heard it wrong. Gana smiled weakly. “A hundred and fifty percent, Sir,” she replied. “A hundred and fifty four to be exact.” I shut my eyes and sighed hard as I confirmed what I first heard. This is already a pain in my ass for the past five months. Our stocks have been declining. Our stocks have been on a trip down the scale and now, it has already plummeted down, for real. “Any update on the diamond mining?” I asked. Gana shook her head. The diamond mining has been on a decline, too. It was actually the reason why my company is suffering more loss than gains. We couldn’t find the state-of-the-art diamonds that we used to mine before. I sighed and massaged the bridge of my nose. “Okay, you may leave,” I told her. Gana nodded before leaving my office. I have arrived to the biggest problem I’ve ever faced ever since streamlining my brand of jewelries. I thought it would all be better after the getting my brand’s name out in the public. It seemed like it’s harder to maintain its quality. I looked up on the internet and immediately saw the news about an emerging jewelry company, New Porcelain. I exited the browser and slammed the mouse on the table. Damn it! Now that there is an emerging company out there, it will difficult for me to come out victorious once more. Angels and Diamonds have been on top for the past five years now. But with the shortage of premium diamonds from the mining company, our production declined. Hence, sales followed. This has been my problem for months now. And I’m so stupid to not have realized that this could happen. I was too focused on the money that came in after the successful launch and was so excited to show it to the greater public. I sighed and ducked my head on top of the folders in front of me. If my dad knew about this, he’s going to call me a failure again. I’m arrogant for leaving the house thinking that I could succeed without his surname attached to mine. Damn it! Thinking about it makes it even worse. I sighed and leaned on the back rest. I reached for my tie and loosened it before reading all the frustrating reports from my secretary. The last meeting I had with the board members, they have suggested cross-cutting which means I need to cut down some employees. I hate doing that because I know that it’s hard to find a stable job now. But then, I have already asked my secretary to give me the list of the employee’s evaluation from the Human Resource Department. I need to fire the employees with low satisfactory rate. My phone vibrated on top of the table. Naomi: I read about New Porcelain. Are you okay? I sighed. Naomi’s the woman I love. But sadly, she doesn’t love me back. She only sees me as a brother because she’s smitten with my older brother who’s not even giving her a second glance. I hate that she’s so naïve about it. But I hate it more that I am still in love with her even though I know everything about her feelings for my brother. I sighed and typed in a reply. Me: I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. I shook my head as I sent the message. I want her to worry about me but if she’s going to worry because she sees me as a brother, then no thanks. I was fine when I got nothing and I surely am better now that I am in a middle of a crisis. I continued to read on and analyze the reports until I noticed that it was already seven in the evening. I sighed and fixed the folders on the table. I’m going to continue reading them all tomorrow. I grabbed my coat and my keys before heading out of the office. But do I want to go home now? Heck, I don’t want to go home now so I decided to go to the rooftop instead. I sat on one of the benches and looked out at the city night lights. I guess this is the only thing that could make me relax now—this view. I shut my eyes and scoured my brain of the solutions I could think of. I have already asked the miners to look for another good mining spot but that would need a lot of paper works and time, too. I need something instant. I know one but I know it is impossible. Hell, I don’t even know if that one is real or just a myth. Angels. Angels cry diamonds. There have been some reports from the seventeenth up to the nineteenth century. Some witnesses see angels fall from the sky through a blinding light. The angels lived a limited time on Earth and some of them gifted the people who welcomed them in their homes with lots of diamonds. People say an angel’s tear will solidify as a diamond. Reports say that the diamonds from the angels are on a different level. Royal queens and princesses demand for it. I scoffed at my own thoughts. This problem is making me think of impossible things. Insane! I sighed and stood up. If I want a solution, I better go home now and sleep. I need sleep to think clearly. “Calyx, get your senses together,” I told myself before walking back to the door, ready to go home and sleep on the comfort of my bed. But just as I was opening the door, I heard a loud scream coming from the top. I turned around and my eyes widened as I saw a meteor falling and it’s falling down right in this rooftop. I immediately thought that I would die right in this moment and this whole building will crumble down. I tightened my grip on the door knob and prayed so hard that my life wouldn’t end just yet. I don’t want to die yet. I heard a loud whimper and when I opened my eyes, all I could see is a blinding light. What the hell is this? I waited for a few moments until the light was gone before finding a girl curled up on the floor. She’s wearing a white dress while there was still light that illuminates from her. I was nervous to even walk towards her. Did she fall from the sky? My heart started racing fast as my hands trembled. This is impossible, right? How could a girl fall down to a rooftop? Did she f*****g fall from the sky? And what the f**k was that blinding light? My mind was in a state of chaos and emergency. Was there an air traffic accident? Because I don’t see any other way that she would fall from the sky besides falling from an airplane! But the light! Why was there a blinding light?! I was trembling as I took steps closer to the woman. She’s not moving. Well, it’s obvious. She could be dead. But then, I looked around her. There was no blood. Impossible! How could there be no blood when she f*****g fell down from God knows how high?! The girl suddenly moved and the light surrounding her was slowly fading into the darkness of the night. I took a step back even when my knees are trembling hard. I held onto the bench near me as I see the woman slowly getting on her feet. Her wavy blonde hair goes up to her waist. The hem of her white dress falls just below her knees. She could be as tall as Naomi who stands at five-foot-six. She lifted her face and my eyes widened at her milky white skin, her almond-shaped blue eyes, tall nose and pink lips. Her face radiates innocence. Like an angel. Wait, angel? I narrowed my eyes at her. She’s got no wings. But do all angels have wings, though? She took a step closer to me. I took a step back. “Who are you?” I asked with a shaking voice. She stared at me. She’s beautiful, alright! She looks like one of the girls who wouldn’t dare to hurt someone else. She looks so innocent. She pursed her lips in a thin line before reaching her hand out to me. “I’m Vaughna, the fallen angel. I need your help, human.” Just as she uttered those words, she collapsed on the floor.
