Chapter One-NOW

Chapter One- NOW Faith “Stop looking at them” Missy's voice brought me back down to earth with a thump and my eyes flickered to her guiltily. Had I been staring at them again? The Sins? It was a name we had given them that first day we had seen them walking across the green our first week in Nine Oaks and it had stuck, at least in our small tightly-knit group. It fit them perfectly. They were sinfully good looking. And totally not good for any girls health, mentally and no doubt physically as well. Their reputation of getting about proceeded them. The Sins were total man whores. All seven of them. Yet whenever they were in my vicinity I couldn’t help but look at them. I would stare and lose myself to the daydreams that always overtook me.  Like a total moron. “I wasn’t looking at them” I flicked my eyes up to my friends knowing face. I had really won the roommate lottery with her. Missy was everything I had always wanted to be. Unique, quirky and above all she didn’t give a rats ass what you thought of her She was total goals. “No?” her tightly-knit shot into her hairline as she reached across the table, “then what's this? This drool I see” She was giggling hysterically. “Oh take me, take me Sins right here” She threw up an arm and made a huge show of doing a swoon, worthy of any romance novel cover as my face flushed beetroot. “Ravish me” My eyes darted across the crowded cafeteria and sure enough, more than one head at their table had turned in our direction. My cheeks burned. “Will you shut up” I hissed between my clenched teeth. “Why?” She swivelled in her seat, craning her neck and her giggles became even more hysterical. “Oh, I see why” There was a look of disgust on her face when she finally turned back. “Really Faith I thought you might be different to all the other idiotic girls, I thought you might have taste” The pencil I flicked at her head missed and went clattering across the room. “I do have taste, geez Missy you would think I was naked and wiggling my ass in their face the way you go on about it” I stretched out my legs, my favourite red high tops flung out between the tables.  Battered and frayed, most other people would thrown them out a long time ago. But they were my favourite they had plenty of life left in them, they were just well-loved that was all. “You were so thinking of wiggling your ass in their faces though” She wagged a finger in my direction. The burger on her plate was momentarily forgotten. “Who’s face you wiggling your ass in?” The voice was deep, Missy's jaw went slack and her eyes lowered as my own widened. I  wanted to take my time drinking him in but to do so would make it even more obvious that I was checking him out. Still, it was the first time that any of the Sins had ever spoken to me.  Even if his tone was condescending as hell. “No ones” My voice was a mumble and he nudged my outstretched legs with the toe of his boots.   “Well that’s good then isn’t it?” His lips curled, yet his eyes wandered up the bare expanse of my legs, he lingered a little too long at the hem of my dress that had risen up over my thighs before he took in the tiny skulls that covered my dress. “Real good” His words were mocking but he didn't blink as he finally dragged his eyes up to my face.  “Do you want to move out the way I'm trying to get passed” That was all it took for Missy. “Then try walking around” I smiled at her as she muttered “Asshole” under her breath. And he was an asshole, his lip curled. “I am trying to give out invitation to the table just there” He flicked his hand to the table of girls just behind us and I raised an eyebrow at my roommate. Of course, he was, the table was full of just his usual types. Pretty girls with not much between their ears.  “Of course you are” I let the words drag out, laughter in my voice and I felt rather than saw his eyes narrow at me. “Wouldn’t want to stop you inviting people to your party” I air quoted party as I dragged my feet back under the table. “Yeah well, we only want the best of the best there” He just stood there staring at me, even though my feet had moved out of his way. It was like we were in so epic battle of wills, neither one of us wanting to back down and look away first.   “I'm Sebastian by the way” He still hadn’t moved, Brown eyes bored into mine unblinking. “She doesn’t care” His eyes wandered from my face and settled on Missy, it wasn’t a nice look and anyone else would have flinched under it. But not my friend.  She gazed back at him with just as much disdain. Maybe more. She was fearless. “I wasn’t talking to you” There was something cruel in his voice as he took in her small curvy form.  “I was talking to…” He made a motion that somehow was meant to encompass me and I felt my own anger flare-up. “And I don’t care either”  Shock flickered across his devilishly handsome face. Was he that conceited that it surprised him when a girl wasn’t interested? “What a jerk” I finally blew out the breath I hadn't even realised I had been holding, and a wayward curl floated up. “I mean seriously like we would want an invitation to their stupid party anyway. Its probably going to be…” Missy didn’t even let me finish. “It's going to be awesome” What the hell? I blinked at her a few times. “You can't be serious.” “Deadly” She grinned at me across the table and in the few weeks I had known her I had never seen such a mischievously look on her face. She was totally up to something. “We are so going to that party” “There's no way they will invite us now” I glanced back at their table, where Sebastian was leaning down, his face close to another of the sins. Both were staring across the room at me. Blatantly. I grimaced, how much more obvious did they need to make it? They were talking about me, anyone with eyes in their head could see it. Their faces hostile and I could do nothing but shrink down into my seat, using my mass of wayward dark curls to shield my face.  I wasn’t as fearless as Missy. The last thing I wanted or needed was to make enemies of them. I had had enough of that through school.  This was meant to be my fresh start, my chance to get away from all of that. “Who wants an invite?” I laughed, she was so ditzy. Had she already forgotten what she had just said? “You if you want to go to their party?” “Pfft” She flicked her pencil in my direction, Missy had always had much better aim than me and it bounced off my head, knocking my glasses askew.  “We aren’t going to get an invite anyway, no matter how much he was perving on your bare legs” I flushed. I knew he had been staring at them a little longer than was polite but perving was a little over the top. I opened my mouth to tell her that but her voice drowned me out. Even though it was little more than a whisper. “But we can gate crash” “You want to gate crash the Sins Halloween party? Like they wouldn’t realise we were there in ten seconds flat” “It’s a costume party Faith, geez give me some credit” She winked. How long had she been planning this? Butterflies sprang up in my stomach as I glanced at their table again. But I didn’t need to ask her to find out the answer. “Just leave it with me, I already have our costumes planned out” Too long. That was the answer. My roommate had been planning this for a while, I narrowed my eyes at her, biting on my bottom lip. Of course, I wanted to go to a party, wasn’t that what the whole university thing was about? Alongside the studying of course. But did I really want to go to a party that I had to crash? A party held by them? Something in my gut was screaming. No. “Sounds like a fun night, anything to get one up on them” Missy nodded her approval. But I would go anyway? Yep.
