Chapter 1: Broken Promises

POV GABBY***

       "Get away from me Gabby you always f*****g bug". Max says as he pushes me into the locker. I fix myself as I walk away. I begin to feel tears welled in my eyes as I walk to the library. It's lunch now so I don't have to worry about anyone here. I smile at the librarian as she gives me a soft smile. I make my way back to the fiction section as I sit down on the floor and pull out my favorite book from the bottom self. As I was reading I feel like someone is watching Me I turn around and see nobody there so I shake it off. I hear footsteps as I look up I'm confronted with a very angry Max. He grabs my jacket as he pulls me to stand. "What the hell is wrong with you Gabby? I told you not to bug me at school, you're a loser and have no friends I don't want to be seen with you anywhere so don't talk to me at school." he says as he begins to walk away. I feel the tears in my eyes as I say f**k it and ditch the rest of today. I would only be skipping my class in here helping my Angie. I begin to pick up my book as I make my way to the front desk of the library. 

    "Hi Mrs. Angie I was wondering if you could cover for me as I went hom-" She cuts me off. "Don't worry about it sweet heart you can go I'll mark you here." she smiles as she grabs my hand and gives it a comforting squeeze. I smile as I make my way out of the back of the library. I began to walk towards the beach because it was the fastest way home. I begin to walk along the shore line as I think back to what the hell had happened between Max and my relationship.

"Pssst Max". I say during Spanish class. It's my freshman year of high school I had just started two months ago as Max had began his senior year. Ever since school had began he's been acting really weird towards me.He turns my way and gives me a dirty look and shakes his head as the boys next to him laugh. I turn my head embarrassed by the scene and focus. At the end of class Max and I would usually walk together to the cafeteria to get lunch but he completely left me and went with the boys who had laughed at me. I walk into the cafeteria and see Max hanging out with the very popular seniors at our school. I decide to not go over there and embarrass myself. So I walked away. The sad thing is I hadn't made any friends yet so I went to my locker and grabbed my book bag as I left for the beach. I walked out of school before saying goodbye to Mrs. Angie the nice librarian who let me sneak out from the back door. I walked to the beach as I sat down on the sand and called my mom. 

    "Hey sweetheart what's up?" I hear her ask. "Hi mom I just wanted to call to let you know I wanna go live with yo-" she cuts me off before I could finish my sentence. "Oh sorry Gabby I gotta go, your father just got home, I'll call you later bye." she said as she hung up. Ever since my mother let me stay here with Ava and Luca she began caring less and less about me and focusing on my little brother and my father. It seems as if they had left me here on purpose. I began to let my tears out as someone called out to me. 

    "hey what's wrong cutie?" I look up and see Jacy, the hottest senior in our school. He crouches down and grabs my hair that's in my face and pushes it behind my ear. "What's wrong?" he asked as he took a seat next to me. "It's just my friend hasn't been treating me right lately and I have nobody at the school now." I say as I look down embarrassed. He pulls my chin up as he looks me in the eyes. "f**k them you don't need someone who isn't gonna treat you like a queen." he says as he stands up and begins walking away. He turns around and looks at me. "Hey I didn't catch your name." he says as I smirk. 

    I stand up and dust the sand off of me. "It's because you didn't ask." I say as I turn around and start walking along the shore line. I hear him scream what my name is but I continue walking as I make it to the monsoon valley resort. I walk through the back entrance and wave to the sweet security guard that always is here watching the door also sleeping. I make my way to Gatsby's and grab a grilled cheese, some fries and ranch and make my way up to the penthouse. As I walk into the penthouse I see people scrambling around in a frantic motion. I try to say hi to everyone but they just shh me and tell me to go away. I walk into Max's room and plop down on his bed while he sits at his desk doing homework. 

    He turns around and gives me a dirty look. "What the f**k are you doing in here Gabby don't you knock!?" he yells. As I'm taken back by what he says as he gets up and grabs my arm, he tries to pull me off the bed as the bag from Gatsby rips open dropping the ranch on his carpet. "oh god Max I'm so sorry I will clean this up right no-" he slaps me in the face before I could even finish my sentence. I look up at him as he grabs my arm with a painful hold and throws me out of the room as I hit my back on the hallway wall.

 I fall to the floor as he opens his door and throws the ranch at me and it lands in my hair. I quickly pick up the mess and take it to the trash can in the kitchen. I walk back to my room because Aunt Ava and Uncle Luca are too busy to notice me. As I get into my room which consists of a queen size bed with a black marble comforter, a desk near the window and a sitting area near the door and a tv hanging on the wall.         

    I throw my bag on the floor as I make my way to the bathroom. I peel off my dirty clothing as I hope into my shower and turn it on. As I am standing in the shower I let my tears out as I finally feel alone. Max hates me, my mom and dad are happy I am gone, and Ava And Luca don't even acknowledge me anymore because they are always busy and only care about Max. After I stop over thinking my thoughts I get out of my shower and get dressed in my walk in closet in the bathroom. 

    After putting on my black leggings and white hoodie I make my way to the bedroom as I see Max sitting on the couch. "Gabby we need to talk". I scoff "about what Max?" he gets up and makes his way towards me. "How you not only embarrassed me at school, how you left school and talked to Jacy who brought you up, how you spilled f*****g ranch on my floor and how you're a f*****g embarrassment to hang out with". I feel my eyes start to water.

    "That's how you really feel about me?" I ask as he looks me up and down. "I mean who wouldn't Gabby you put on a lot of weight since summer and you're ugly how do you expect to make friends when you look like this?" I feel my chest tighten as I walk up to him and slap him in the face. "You're just like your father before he met Maria." his eyes darken as he throws a punch to my face as I hit the wall then fall the floor as  I begin to see stars.
