Meeting the Detective for the Second Time

953 Words
"Sir, you have a meeting at three with an um Kristy Porter?" My assistant says walking into my office after knocking. My assistant was Julia Ohem. She was 40 years old and had once worked for my father when he still ran the business. She was very thin and only reached a height of 5'6. She was a sweet woman and did as she was told although sometimes she acts more like a mother than my assistant. "Alright just have her come in here," I say sending some emails on my laptop. "Sir the thing is she's here now," Julia says and I roll my eyes. She's two hours early. I have only met this detective once in my lifetime and it was when I was being asked questions at the police station but then she was just a cop and not a detective. "Bring her in," I say shutting my computer and leaning back in my chair putting my hands in my lap as I await for the detective and her ridiculous questions. "Ms. Porter," I say looking at her as she enters. She has a pair of skinny black jeans and a white shirt on with a black jacket over it. She also has a little pad and pen in her hands. "Mr. Cortes," she sneers as she walks to the seat in front of my desk sitting down. "How may I be of service," I smile already knowing what she needs. "Just here to ask some questions," she says pulling out a recorder. "Aren't I entitled to a lawyer while in questioning?" I ask raising my eyebrow. She instantly freezes up. "You are," she says now very tense. "No need, just wondering," I smirk and she visibly relaxes. "So the questions I'm going to ask you have to do with the many deaths in the city this month," she says pressing record on the recorder. "Ms. Porter, why must we go through this? I'm innocent," I say sitting up in my chair slightly agitated. "It is just for reassurance," she says opening her notepad. "Very well then begin," I say waving her on. "Where were you on the night of October 5th?" She asks looking up from her notepad. "Home," I say leaning back in my seat again. "Can you confirm this?" She says looking back at her notepad scribbling something down. "I can," I smirk opening my computer to see my house security cameras. I never go to kill anyone just in case of this. I make sure that I get the people who work for me to do it. I pull up the footage of the 5th and put it in my kitchen. I was making a sandwich that night because I had told my cook to go home early. It was his son's birthday and I'm not heartless. I show the footage to the detective and she instantly frowns. "What about the 7th and the 8th?" She says scribbling something down again. I go to the dates on the footage and show Ms. Porter that I was indeed at home. "Ms. Porter your questions are pointless I have gone home every day this month after work," I say shutting my laptop as Ms. Porter flips through her book. "Just a few more questions," she says looking at me then back down at her notepad. "Do you know anyone by the name of Nicholas Perry?" She asks. I do but she doesn't need to know that. Nicholas was a man who had r***d one of my 'employees' sister. He was not caught which is why I came in and put a hit on him. "I do not," I say looking Ms. Porter directly in the eyes. She nods and scribbles some more. "I hat about Jamie Hugh?" She asks looking at me and leaning back in her chair. Jamie was a hard-working man who works for me, both in the banking business and the hitman business. "I do. He is an employee of mine," I say shrugging. "He is a suspect in a case were you aware of that Mr. Cortes?" Ms. Porter asks smirking at me. I smirk back and nod my head. "I'm fully aware Ms. Porter but he was not convicted of anything now was he?" I ask and her eyes dark shine as bright as they once did. "No, he was not. There was not enough evidence to prove that it was him," she sighs frowning. "Now Ms. Porter I have another meeting soon so I think we are done with the questions," I say standing from my desk. Ms. Porter stands up as well grabbing all of her things and stopping the recorder. "Of course," she says through gritted teeth. "Actually Ms. Porter I have a question for you," I smirk and she instantly stops and looks up at me. "Which is?" She questions raising an eyebrow. "I'm just curious as to why you want to throw me in jail that's all" I shrug looking out my giant floor to ceiling window. I was on the top level of a 53 store building it was a very lovely view. "Does Jack Porter ring a bell Mr. Cortes?" She says glaring at me. This catches me off guard. I am not actually aware of anyone by that name, but from the looks he was related to Detective Porter, and something bad happened to him. "It doesn't Ms. Porter" I say turning around to look at her. She nods and quickly leaves my office. As soon as I know she's gone I go to my desk and pick up my phone calling one of my employees. His name was George and he could get information on anyone that's ever existed. "George I want information on a guy named Jake Porter ASAP" I say hanging up not waiting on a reply. Now we wait and see just what has this Detective after me.
