Chapter 17 Kate stuck her head outside the portal and inspected the problem carefully. Pulling her head back in, she put a loop in the belt. It was the tail end of a deeply ruddy sunset, almost full dark now. The jailor’s body was completely lost in the shadows below. But since she could either see, or do—insufficient room to do both at once out the inspection hatch—it didn’t really matter.
