Chapter 4

530 Words

When dawn finally came, Evan jumped from his bed. He’d slept for a couple of hours but it was more than enough. His body was thrumming with energy. He took a shower and got ready for work. He’d check the money at the ATM across the street. He planned to have a big breakfast this morning. A stack of pancakes, bacon and eggs, sausages, and a pot of coffee. He was twenty-five hundred richer than he was yesterday. Who knew? The money was there, as Brain had promised. Evan blinked several times. He almost couldn’t believe it. For long minutes he stood there, staring at the amount written on the screen, and it gawked back at him quietly, innocently. Then something rushed into him like torrential rain. Was this what he was reduced to, a w***e? An expensive one, but nonetheless, still a w***e.
