Miranda paced back and forth by the edge of the forest clearing, her eyes darting toward the campfire where Luke was busy preparing a meal. The smell of cooking meat wafted through the air, mixing with the earthy scent of the woods. She’d insisted she could help with the meal, but Luke had waved her off with that easy smile of his, telling her to relax and sit by the fire.
