[Stella’s POV]
As I stepped in to the kitchen, my brother Theo and my dad were sitting at the table, as they were finishing having lunch, while my mother was removing the things from the table.
My father quickly caught up on my expression, and I believed he knew I wanted to speak with him, so he turned to Theo.
“Hey, Theo, how about you run out and play, I can see you have finished up.” He spoke, as Theo smiled.
“Yay, can I go play with Valary and Leon?” Theo asked, as our father nodded.
“Yeah, do that.” He replied. Then Theo ran over to me, and gave me a quick hug before he continued out the door.
“I can see you are upset.. Is there something wrong?” He asked me, like he didn’t already know. My mother turned to me as well, as she looked worried, probably because she could see my eyes were still red.
“Have you been crying? Everything’s alright?” She asked.
“No, nothing is alright, Armaros left me, and it’s all because of you, dad! What did you say to him?” I asked accusingly.
My father gave a frustrated sigh, and I knew what I wanted and what I could expect to hear from him were two complete different things.
“Just forget it, Stella, I don’t wanna discuss this with you.” My father dismissed, as he just turned away from me, and finished with his coffee, before he got raised from his seat.
“I have an important meeting to deal with, so you just have to let this go.. Him leaving is probably for the best anyway.” He stated, as he got up from his seat and began walking away.
That was what he always did, when there was something he didn’t want me to know about or to do, but I wasn’t going to stay silent anymore.
I was done with him trying to control every aspect of my life, so I grabbed hold of his arm, as he was about to pass me.
“No dad, you listen to me now, I..” I started to speak, but then I realized exactly why he didn’t want me to know.
“You are blaming Armaros for what happened?” I blurred out in disbelief, as he stared at me in shock.
“When did you..” he started to ask, but I cut in.
“I just did, apparently!” I stated, as I was a bit frowned aback by it, but most of all I was angry at him.
“But why would you do that?” I asked in disbelief.
“Because you can’t be with him, you deserve so much better than that!” My father growled as he knitted his eyebrows.
“How do you know? You act like you know him! But you don’t!” I yelled at him, only to receive a huff in reply.
“What is there to know? He can’t follow any of our rules, and he is killing as if it were a sport!” He growled.
“Furthermore, he is a demon, Stella, and he held you captive against your will, how can you ignore that!” My father scolded, as his face was glowering, as he placed his hands on my upper arms, but I pulled away.
“I know he did! But he is not the way you think, but you don’t know that because you aren’t even willing to give him a fair chance!” I argued.
“I know he has done some pretty terrible things, and his methods might be questionable at times, but he has been nothing but nice to me.
Even when you sent threats to his door, not even knowing who he was. He still treated me with kindness and respect – and I love him dad, and I will never, never love anyone but him!” I yelled once again, as I just stared at him angrily, but he didn’t say anything.
Then I turned on my heel, and headed towards the door, but just as I had grabbed the door handle, I turned around to face him one last time.
“And you know what, dad! I felt less like a prisoner with him than I ever did here with you, growing up!” I cried out, before I walked out and slammed the door behind me.
[..]
Cathrine looked at Chase, clearly disappointed, as Stella had walked out of the house, which didn’t go unnoticed by him.
“What?” He asked as she shook her head.
“You lied to Stella.. You even lied to me. Why would you do that?” Cathrine asked, as Chase turned to her.
“It was the only way I needed him as far away from our daughter as possible, and the only way to do that, was to make him tell her.” Chase explained.
“You can’t do that to our daughter, Chase. You know how much that mate bond means to everyone who finds it. Why do you wanna take that away from them?” Cathrine argued as she stared at him in disbelief.
“Do you even know who he is, Cathy?!” Chase growled.
“Of course I do! But he is not his father, or do you want to blame Nathan for his father’s wrongdoings too?” Cathrine snapped.
“Tha.. That’s not the same thing!” Chase defended.
“Yes it is! You believe Armaros is going to hurt Stella, because of what Damon did to me, but you are wrong.. Armaros seems like a nice young man, and I truly believe that he deserves a chance to prove himself.. Just like Vlad did.” Cathrine replied.
“You’re asking me to gamble with our daughter’s life, Cathy, and I can’t do that!”
“You’ll have to give her the choice, ‘cause she has already tasted what life is outside this place if you don’t.. You will lose her forever, ‘cause she won’t stay here if you force them apart!”
----
At the same moment, the door opened and Charlie stuck his head inside.
“Chase, the Council is waiting for you!” Charlie revealed, as Chase turned to look at him, before shortly looking at Cathrine again.
“I have to go now, Cathy..” Chase spoke, before he walked with Charlie.
“Sorry, I’m late, I had a discussion I needed to finish.” Chase spoke as he stepped in to the office.
“Chase, we need to talk.” Narla spoke. Narla was Serpientia’s daughter and had taken her place on the council after her mother’s death. Chase agreed to meet with her and the rest of the council.
He and Cathrine might have been the Alpha and Luna of the werewolves, but to make sure everyone was heard in the tribe, the Council was established, to make sure every kind had a member of the council to speak their case.
Chase for the werewolves, Narla for the nature witches, Lucerna for the Lux Blandas, and, of course, Vlad for vampires, though there were only a few or them. It was the people he had chosen because he trusted them.
“About what, Narla? Chase asked, as he closed the door. He just stepped through, and walked to the table where they were all gathered.
“Vlad told me what happened, and we have all agreed that you have been acting out of character lately from what this tribe is meant to stand for, Chase.” She spoke, making Chase frown.
“I did what I meant was best for my daughter!” Chase growled, crossing his arms, as he had sat down by the table.
“You might, but you are not entitled to ban anyone from the tribe without turning it with the rest of us.” Vlad bit back.
“Oh, shut up, Vlad! Like you wouldn’t have done the same if it had been Valary!” Chase growled.
“Enough! We shouldn’t point fingers, we are here to talk to you as our friend and tell you that you need to take a step back, ‘cause you can’t stay objective in this situation, Chase.” Lucerna spoke, as he knitted his eyebrows.
“My daughter was held hostage for weeks and I don’t know what, by that demon, and you wanna blabber about me not being able to stay objective – he is fücking Damon Mortem’s son, and I don’t want him anywhere near my daughter! Chase hollered, banging his fist on the table.
“Why did you and Cathrine decide to build this place to begin with, Chase?” Vlad asked.
“You know why, it has nothing to do with this!” Chase replied.
“Yes it does! This place was meant for all kinds, to give them a place to live in peace from oppression or unjustified treatment, based on their race.” He continued.
“I am judging him based on his character and his actions – not his race!” Chase growled.
“That’s funny, cause all I hear is – he is a demon, and he is Damon Mortem’s son, and so on – coming out of your mouth all the time, Chase!”
“Did it ever occur to you, that he is a young man, that has never had a stable father figure in his life, and somehow he ended up being a pretty decent guy anyway – does he make mistakes? - hell yes, but he shows so much love and dedication to Stella, and I would mean, that speaks louder than his past actions or genetic inheritance.” Vlad justified.
Chase looked at the floor as he huffed.
“Fine! I might have been a little too harsh on him..” Chase grumbled.
“Harsh is an understatement, you purposely forced them apart, knowing how painful it is to be rejected by your mate. Is that really the pain you want to inflict your own daughter with?” Vlad asked.
“Of course not! All I’ve ever wanted was to protect her,” Chase answered.
“We all get that Chase, but it’s time for you to accept the fact that you can’t control every aspect of your daughter’s life anymore.. She is a big girl now, and all you can do is to support her, instead you are just pushing her further away..
Don’t make the same mistake as me and Ignis, or you’re going to regret it.” Lucerna spoke.
[Stella’s POV]
“Hey Stella!” Jaze called out, as he and Lior walked towards me. I greeted them with a smile, before Jaze came over and hugged me, and the same did Lior.
“It’s good to see you.. I have to say, I was a little surprised when you texted us and asked to meet you here.” Jaze added.
Hiding in the Forest wasn’t really my thing, but after everything that had happened, all I just needed was some alone time.
“Yeah, I know, I haven’t really been in the right state to see anyone lately, but I think I’m getting there.” I replied.
“It’s good to know, we have honestly been worrying about you, after everything there happened to you, and even Hunter’s attempt to kill you was just..”
“What are you talking about?” I asked, as Lior paused as his eyes widened.
“You didn’t know? Guess I should have figured that much..” Lior spoke nervously, but I just shook my head. It shouldn’t surprise me that my father was still hiding things from me, so I chose to ignore it.
“Forget it, that’s not why I asked you to meet me here anyway..” I spoke as both of them observed me curiously.
“I was actually hoping that you two would be willing to help me get more in touch with my abilities.” I revealed, as they looked at each other before turning back to me.
“You want us to.. Train you?” Jaze asked, confused, as I nodded my head.
“I have changed into my wolf two times and both times, I have ended up passing out from it, and not having any recollection of what’s happening around me.
When it comes to both my shifting and my ability to make portals, it seems somehow to be connected to my emotions, ‘cause I’m just not able to do it without either being angry or scared, and I don’t know how to change that.” I explained, as both listened carefully to what I had to say.
“Well, I’m definitely gonna help, I’ve always wanted to see if I was able to train anyone to do it.” Lior replied, as Jaze nodded, but seemed a bit more cautious about it.
“I’ll help too.. But only if you tell me why it’s so important right now.” He spoke. I knew this question could come, but even if I trusted them, I wasn’t sure they would understand my reasons for it. I didn’t want them to refuse to help me, so I lied, well.. It wasn’t a complete lie, but it wasn’t the whole truth either.
“I just need something to take my mind off everything that has happened lately.. It would really mean a lot if you would do this for me, Jaze,” I begged. He observed me for a moment before he nodded his head, surely.
“Okay then, I’ll do it.” He replied with a reassuring smile.
“Let’s start with your wolf.. When were you last in contact with it?” Jaze asked.
“Well, I kinda had a conversation with it when I was passed out, that was the first time I ever talked to it.” I replied, as he nodded understandingly.
“That’s a good thing, then we know you at least have one. What did it tell you?” He continued.
“That I am the one who is stopping myself from changing because I apparently have been too busy trying to be something I’m not. All I have ever been doing is trying to live up to my family name and not just be a complete waste of space.” I explained, feeling lightly uncomfortable telling them this.
“And what about now?” He asked.
“I just wanna be me. I'm not concerned about that anymore. People can think and say what they want about me, they clearly do anyway.” I mumbled, crossing my arms, as I felt a bitterness settle in me.
“You are right, they do. You have definitely managed to become the talk of the tribe.” Jaze stated plainly, as I frowned at him.
“I’m not sure that I follow you?” I asked, confused.
“I mean, being with the one k********g you and walking around the tribe like nothing happened, what did you think would happen?” He asked as he lifted an eyebrow.
“Quit it Jaze!” I warned him, as he just observed my reaction.
“What? It’s the truth, isn’t it? You act like nothing happened, like that guy didn’t lock all of us up and threatened to kill us,” he spoke.
“You speak like it’s my fault!” I snapped.
“Isn’t it, if you choose to be with him?” he stated.
“You don’t get it, none of you do!” I yelled, as I felt my whole body start to shake in anger, as my senses were heightened.
“Do you feel that?” Jaze asked, as I frowned.
“What are you talking about now?” I hissed, as he walked closer to me.
“Focus on your senses and the feeling you have inside of you right now, you have to remember that feeling when you need to try, and shift.” He replied.
“You tricked me?” I hissed at him.
“You are a pretty bad liar Stella, you might not want it to affect you, but you still care what everyone else thinks of you, now do as I say – focus!” He ordered, as I closed my eyes and focused like he said, and it was like an entire world opened. Like I could hear things I wasn’t able to hear before.
It was different from the last time because there I didn’t feel I was the one in control.
Because of the fear and the anger, but then I felt how it slowly filled my veins, as my heartbeat was rising.
“Now you need to take control of the feeling, so it doesn’t take control of you,” Jaze spoke, as I tried to do as he said.
“When you feel like you are in control, I want you to let go of it, before you try to find the feeling on your own, do you think you can do that?” He asked, as I nodded my head, and did what he said.
I calmed down completely, before I tried to remember how it felt, and it didn’t take more than a few seconds, before I felt I was able to connect with it.
“See, you're already getting the hang of it.. If you feel ready, you can try to shift.” Jaze spoke, and so I did.
