“That first day in the hospital, you told me I might suffer after effects from the lightning strike. Didn’t you say my hearing might also give me some problems?”
Moira sat up a little straighter in her chair, her eyes watching me with the same intenseness I often saw from Shaylee.
“Well, is it possible the shock to my system could make me hear things?” I asked, after her nod to go on. “The doctor said I might suffer some hearing loss, but is it possible to go the other way and, say, heighten my hearing?”
“One of the most common side effects is a loss of hearing and intense headaches. Are you experiencing either of those, Mackenzie?”
I loved that she didn’t shorten my name the way everyone else did. And when she said my name, I caught a trace of her Scottish heritage. I assur
