Chapter Eleven Kee takes me to the jungle’s edge just outside the village. It’s midnight. Above, stars appear from behind swirling clouds, as does the moon. I see Kee’s dark skin gleam with sweat looking almost iridescent when the moon shines. I see my own skin looking white and pale, even though it’s not as pale as it once was. And it gleams too. Everything in the jungle is wet now from this sultry heated atmosphere. “I’ll wait here until I know if you’ll return,” Kee tells me. “You’ll simply wait?” I have no idea how long it will take to satisfy my need, a night, days or even a week.
