Mac–POV
My wolf bristled with irritation all week, grumbling that Yuri had to be with the dragon guy instead of us. Our mission was to locate a rare onyx stone situated in the Norman city of Fae. To be honest, it was an absolute pain in the ass; the Fae were less than helpful when it came to finding a shop that supposedly sold this rare stone. After wrangling with Fae bandits, a detour that squandered four precious days, and meandering through various cities, I finally found myself standing outside the shop. I had anticipated a small, decrepit wooden building like most Fae establishments, but I found a boutique teeming with jewelry on display and eerily devoid of customers – a sight uncommon in a city where Fae often frequented local shops.
Upon entering, a sharply dressed young woman with golden Fae eyes met my gaze with undisguised distaste. “Wolf, what brings you to my shop?” she asked with palpable disgust.
“I need a rare onyx stone,” I replied, cutting to the chase. The Fae woman’s eyes narrowed.
“We don't sell such things,” she rebuffed, turning back to polish her crystals.
“I come from the Night Pack, sent by Ted. Does that ring any bells?” I persisted. At this, she spun around to face me once more.
“You should have led with that,” she sighed, urging me to follow her further into the boutique. With a flick of magic, she unlocked a wooden box, revealing the onyx stone. It had faint golden lines running through it.
“I hope Ted gave you the gold coins I asked for,” she stated. I nodded, handing over the pouch of gold as she passed me the small wooden box, which I tucked into my satchel bag.
“Good doing business,” she said, to which I simply nodded. “Oh, by the way, my name's Bree,” she added suddenly. Indifferent to her introduction, I exited the shop. “Rude!” I heard Bree hiss as I left. I longed to return to the Night Pack, hoping Yuri and Mac had completed their mission. To my surprise, I finished mine a day earlier than expected.
I teleported back to the Night Pack and presented Ted with the onyx stone. Ted's pleased expression was quickly replaced by concern. “It seems your two teammates still haven't shown up,” Ted observed. A sense of dread gnawed at my stomach, causing me to wonder about Yuri's well-being.
“So, I passed the test?” I asked. Ted nodded his head. “Solomon, show him the lab. Make sure you register his name and pay him,” Ted instructed.
“And what about the meeting with the Alpha?” Solomon asked.
“We're waiting for his two teammates to arrive so I can arrange a meeting with Alpha Kevin,” Ted explained dryly. I followed Solomon through what he called a 'lab', which to me looked more like a torture chamber. Mixed-blood individuals lay unconscious, hooked up to various apparatuses with strange fluids coursing into their veins. The onyx stone sat at the heart of the lab, its golden light pulsating as it seemed to transfer energy to the patients.

Drake – POV
Mac pulled Yuri into a hug, which seemed to catch her off guard, but she relaxed into the embrace. I turned away, a peculiar sensation stirring within me – my dragon seemed irritated by their closeness. I dismissed the thought, my mind preoccupied with how this mixed blood held a dragon bloodline that needed saving. Who was the pure dragon aiding this damned pack to run tests on mixed bloods, turning them into weapons?
Yuri and Mac followed me to meet with
Ted. His eyes widened in surprise at our unexpected success in bringing back three more captives than the one individual given in the task.
“Quite impressive. I thought you two might struggle,” Ted admitted, clearly pleased. “I'll arrange a meeting with Alpha Kevin and his partner soon. In the meantime, enjoy your mini vacation.” With that, Ted left us to our own devices. Solomon showed us the lab where they mistreated the mixed bloods. Fury surged within me, my dragon yearning to free these hybrid humans who carried dragon blood.
Yuri’s hand brushed against mine accidentally. Instantly, my dragon quieted down, the rage switch seemingly turned off. I pondered what had just transpired – how had Yuri managed to pacify my dragon so effortlessly? I pushed the thought aside as we reached the inn. “I'm going to meet Emily and Elena. I need to lift this curse,” Yuri said, displaying the vial of blood and hair she had obtained from Markus, who appeared to be her biological father. Mac looked puzzled, prompting Yuri to share her story with him while I slipped out of the room, my attention drawn to a sudden surge of aura in the pack. It was unmistakably a dragon aura, and I found myself gravitating toward the source.
