Escape Plan

1289 Words
Yuri's POV We had spent four days meticulously crafting escape plans and designing a passageway based on the blueprints of labs that Solomon had provided us. Our aim was to evacuate the mixed-blood hybrids safely. My father had kept me updated, informing me that soon they would inject him, Nedra, and Nex with a serum. This serum could enhance their energy and make them feral if not adequately controlled. It's a forced serum that weaponizes mixed bloods but shortens their lifespan. I couldn't bear the thought of my father, step-sister, and step-brother suffering these consequences. "Calm down," Darcus advised me. I nodded in response, stepping into the room where we would have dinner. Thankfully, the stone hadn't been exposed to Drake, or our cover would've been blown instantly. Ted had handed off the stone to his spy, and I was the one who had to make sure Drake stayed away from the stone until Ted's man had safely absconded with it. "I've just informed Alpha Silas about our escape plan tonight," Mac disclosed as he hung up his call. "Alpha Silas has already arranged for a safe place for the hybrids to reside within the Silver Canines pack." I nodded in response, unable to voice my thoughts as I was nervous. Today was the day we were to execute our escape plan, and I desperately hoped that everything would go off without a hitch. I retreated to my room to get dressed and was met with a text message from Elena. "Yuri, don't worry. I believe in your ability to make this escape mission successful." Her words coaxed a small smile onto my face. I responded to her, "Thank you. I just hope I can save my dad, my step-sister Nedra, and my step-brother Nex from having the hybrid serum injected into them. We only have an hour left." Elena and Alpha Silas knew I'd met my biological father and step-siblings. They had expressed their happiness for me and assured me that my family would always be welcome in their pack. "You will be able to save them, Yuri. Believe in yourself. I trust you. Stay positive," Elena replied to my text. I drew a few deep breaths, steeling myself for the task ahead. I was determined to save everyone. Emerging from my room, dressed all in black, I found Mac and Drake in similar attire. Both men regarded me intently, and I could only sigh in response. "Let's go," I muttered. Drake, Mac, and I prepared to embark on our mission, with Solomons waiting in the corridor to provide support. He would monitor the magical CCTV cameras and guide us on how to neutralize the guards. Solomons also had control over the dungeon locks and would unlock them once we'd cleared our path. A secret passage bridge, mostly the handiwork of Drake's magic, would be our escape route. I fingered the necklace we were using as a mind-link conference call, a means of communication that allowed us to coordinate without alerting any guards nearby. "Solomons, are you in position?" I asked. "Yes, what about you?" "I'm ready, and so are Drake and Mac. Open the back gate to the lab and let us in," I ordered. After a few minutes, the gate was unlatched, and the three of us slipped in, each taking a different tunnel to free the hybrids. My path led me toward a heavily guarded room where my father and step-siblings were about to be injected with the hybrid serum. Drawing a deep breath, I evaluated the guards. One of them was moving in my direction. Without wasting a moment, I moved behind him, swiftly putting him in a chokehold and snapping his neck. I quickly dragged his body away, concealing it from the view of the other guards. One by one, I managed to neutralize them. However, suspicion grew amongst the remaining ones as their numbers dwindled, and they started calling for the ones I had killed. Before they could alert Ted via mind-link, I used a laser beam to take them down simultaneously. This weapon was an incredible asset that Solomons had managed to pilfer from the lab. It proved invaluable when faced with multiple assailants. "Solomons, what's the situation inside?" I asked before signaling him to unlock the door. "We're just about to inject. Get in quickly. Mac and Darcus have managed to rescue the others and are headed toward the exit. We're running out of time," Solomon relayed urgently. At his signal, the door lock clicked open. Inside, I saw my father and step-siblings strapped to beds, struggling to free themselves and resist the injection of the serum. Half-shifting, I felt my hands morph into claws, ready for battle. The doctors responded, shifting into their wolf forms. I used the laser beam again, the light burning those transformed doctors into ashes. Swiftly, I slashed at the bed straps, freeing my family. "That was close," Nedra murmured, her voice filled with fear. "We need to move. We're running out of time to reach the exit," I said. Nedra wobbled unsteadily on her feet, shackled for too long. Nex, her brother, scooped her into his arms while I aided my father, who, despite staggering, managed to push his pace. We finally reached the exit, and I let my father step outside. However, before I could follow him out and cross the small wooden bridge that spanned the tunnel, Ted stopped me and pulled back. "Damn you!" Ted hissed, slapping me hard across the face. Despite the blow, I retaliated by kicking him in the abdomen, attempting to break free. However, Ted managed to pull me back, pinning me down to the ground. "Yuri!" My dad cried out, his voice laced with worry. Nedra and Nex also looked terrified from the other side of the land. "Leave! Go, now!" I shouted back. My family had to move quickly. Ted was about to destroy the small bridge, which could potentially cause my dad and siblings to plummet to their deaths. I struggled against Ted, trying to stop him from damaging the bridge. I fought with all my might. "Yuri, where are you? We're waiting for you at the trunk," Drake's voice came through the mind-link. He was obviously anxious, and his concern spurred me on in my fight against Ted. I checked my back pocket and noticed I had lost my laser beam at the lab, so I couldn't kill Ted. Ted injected me with a serum to stop me from shifting into wolf form. "I don't think I'm going to make it. Please, look after my family who has crossed the bridge and are heading towards the trunk," I managed to say through our mental link. Despite my injuries, I continued to fight Ted, the sound of additional footsteps growing closer. Ted landed several good hits, worsening my injuries, but I didn't let that stop me. However, before I could attempt another escape, Ted broke the bridge with a sinister smirk. "Now, you will answer everything and tell us about all the escaped hybrids. I will torture you until you spill the truth," Ted warned, his words chilling me to the bone. I saw the guards with their laser weapons pointed at me, capable of incinerating a wolf, and instinctively backed away. The gaping hole where the bridge had been was now my only way out. Instead of being captured, I had no choice but to jump into the gap and face my death. Before Ted could comprehend my actions, I fell back into the abyss. Ted looked furious at my decision since he could not capture me alive. And with that, I plummeted down from the great height, ready to meet my end.
