“Great job, Javier! Your ability to consistently amaze me is truly remarkable. You saw it, right? Even my colleagues were impressed with you. It's no surprise that you’re successful and a billionaire. You're such a hardworking man!” Mr. White beamed with joy, looking at him with great admiration. Compliments are not something new for Javier Romanov. He had heard them countless times, yet he still chose to maintain to be humble. "Thank you for your kind words, Mr. White. Does it mean you agreeing to our deal?” The elderly gentleman chuckled and waved his hands. "I would be foolish to decline your offer, Javier. Is that even a question? Of course, I'll sign the contract tomorrow and get it all sorted out. I always enjoy collaborating with you, you know that." Mr. White is one of his business clients, and, interestingly enough, most of his business partners and clients are humans. His words satisfied him, causing a wide smile to spread across his face. "Thank you so much, Mr. White." "You're always welcome, Javier. I'll be leaving now.” “I will arrange for my assistant to accompany you.” He glanced at his assistant, who promptly escorted Mr.White to the parking lot. After they departed from his private office, he let out a long breath and reclined in his swivel chair. This day was tiring, but it was fulfilling. He had just landed a million-dollar contract. Ever since his beloved Beatrice passed away a few years ago, he has buried himself in his work. After a successful career as a surgeon, he made the bold choice to shift his attention towards their business. He wanted to tire himself out and occupy his days, desperate to escape the ache and yearning for his lost love. So after she died, he quickly went to Europe to avoid remembering the bitter past. He laughed bitterly. it was odd that he was called the Alpha of the Black Moon Pack while living in another country on his own. He delegated responsibility for the pack to his father, the former Alpha, who is still active today. If he hadn't done that, he believed he would have gone nuts there. He could see memories of Beatrice everywhere he looked. At first, he wanted to die beside her. But he remembered his parents, who had done nothing but love him, and the Black Moon Pack, who had done nothing but admire and rely on him. So he realized that following Beatrice was not the best solution. But he needed a break. Away from his own country, from his pack, and his memories. And it appeared to be somewhat effective because his hectic schedule left him with little time to unwind. He looked at Beatrice's picture frame on his office desk. His wife was incredibly lovely. He was deeply in love with her. And he was frustrated because, despite being an Alpha, a billionaire, and a doctor, he couldn't do anything to save her. He felt like a useless Alpha. He hadn't even been able to defend the person he loved. Everybody, including his parents, had advised him to find a new Luna and marry her. But he couldn't do it. Beatrice was the only mate for him. Beatrice was the only woman he ever loved. If only he wanted to, he could easily find a new Luna without breaking a sweat. Almost every she-wolf in the Black Moon Pack wished to become his Luna. Many human women liked him. Why not? Aside from being a rich businessman, he was attractive. He was aware of that. He stood 6'3" tall, with thick brown hair, deep gray eyes, a lean figure, and a fair complexion that suited his appearance. He also believed he was a good man. He was a good pack leader as well as a devoted spouse and son. His musings were cut short when he heard Jordan, his all-in-one guy, trusted man, and beta, rushing and panting. "Oh my God, Javier!" Jordan's expression was filled with fear. "Hey, what's going on with you?" Jordan clutched the phone tightly. “I received a phone call. Your mother had a heart attack and is now in the hospital!” His entire being trembled, and a wave of dread washed over him. "What?! What happened to her? What the hell are we waiting for? Contact our pilot and the crew. Tell them to prepare the private jet plane. We're heading back immediately.” He spoke with a commanding tone, yet his face betrayed a deep sense of concern. “Are you sure? What about our deal with Mr. White tomorrow?” “Damn it! f**k that deal! My mother's life is more important. I won’t let anyone else in my life be taken away. I was utterly helpless when Beatrice passed away, and I refuse to allow history to repeat itself. But don’t forget to reach out to Mr. White and provide an explanation of the situation. I’m sure he’ll understand,” "Yeah, sure man." Jordan left the office and started to take action. Javier did the same, hurrying to his penthouse to pack some clothes and personal items into a suitcase. He had an urge to reach out to his family and get an update on the situation, but the fear of discovering his mother's worsening condition made him hesitant to call them. He doesn’t want to be emotional while traveling. embark on the emotional journey. He was deeply affected by the events that had transpired with his deceased wife. A few hours later, thanks to his wealth and the power of money, Javier was back in his own country that same day. Upon the jet plane's gentle landing, his eyes immediately caught sight of the car eagerly awaiting for their arrival. They were welcomed by their family driver, Nick, an elderly man who had faithfully served as their driver for almost three decades. Nick was deeply moved when he laid eyes on him. Javier embraced him with a firm grip. "Javier, it's great to have you back. Your parents need you. The pack needs you," Nick whispered gently. Javier clenched his fist, feeling disappointed in himself. “I’m here now, Nick. And I won’t be leaving again.” Nick and Jordan were taken aback by his statement, yet they opted to remain silent. They hopped into the car and traveled along in complete silence. Javier couldn’t help but look around. He hadn’t seen this place in years. He admitted he missed his home country and their pack. It was just that the memories with Beatrice pained him. But he needed to set that aside because his mother’s life was in danger. “We’ve only been gone for a few years, but so much has changed. New establishments have opened,” Jordan observed. "You're right, Jordan. Every year, our country, especially some rural areas continues to embrace progress.” Nick glanced at them through the rearview mirror. “You both seem quite worn out. You must have jetlag. Don’t worry, we'll find a quicker route to ensure we arrive at the Villa in no time.” Javier and Nick fell into silence, and his eyes gently drifted shut. Concerned for his mother, he found himself utterly drained and battling the effects of jetlag. He thought it would be a good idea to catch a quick snooze. Javier and Jordan were peacefully resting when Nick let out a piercing scream and brought the car to an abrupt halt. They awoke suddenly, their senses heightened by the piercing sound of Nick's scream. “Nick, what was that? What’s wrong?” He asked, his voice filled with astonishment. Nick's face was ashen, his breath came in desperate gasps, and his body trembled with an overwhelming sense of terror. Javier firmly grasped him by both shoulders. "Nick! What's the matter with you? Why do you have to scream like that?” He looked around. He didn’t see or feel any danger. “J-Javier! I saw! I saw it with my own eyes...!” Nick said, sounding almost insane. "You saw what?" Javier's anxiety was beginning to build. "I witnessed a real-life murder from this vantage point on the highway..." "What?!" They exclaimed in unison. Nick, visibly trembling, gestured towards the towering cliff nearby. They were on a long, dark highway with very few vehicles passing by. Beside the quiet, long road was a high cliff that looked as tall as a precipice. The highway they were on ran beneath the highland. "I noticed two shadows from here when I looked up at that high-land. I saw how someone pushed the victim. And from that height, the victim is definitely dead!" Driven by a strong sense of justice, Javier wasted no time in reaching a conclusion. "Come on! Let's go take a look!" "What? What on earth were you thinking, Javier? We could potentially become entangled in that situation. And don't forget, your mother is in the hospital," Jordan protested firmly. He knew it himself. But Javier couldn't just stand there and do nothing. "It's still wrong, Jordan. We'll still go to see my mother. But my conscience won't let me rest knowing I had the opportunity to help but did nothing!" Jordan and Nick had no option once their Alpha made a decision. They parked the car on the side of the highway and went into the woods. It was dark and dangerous, but since they weren't ordinary humans, they could see even in the dark and had a keen sense of smell. The three of them concentrated on sniffing around until Javier smelled something peculiar. "Blood! I smell blood!" He dashed into the small woods, following the scent's trail. And his nose never failed him, as he discovered a body in a great, tall tree. He ascended the tree without hesitation, like an assassin. He noticed a corpse lying on the limbs of the tree, unconscious. He carried the body down the tree and placed it on the ground. Everyone gasped at the same time. "A woman!" Nick exclaimed, shocked. Jordan sniffed her. "And she isn't one of us. She is human, Javier." Javier's fist tightened as he felt a surge of empathy for the woman. Her entire body was covered in blood, with numerous cuts and bruises. Her bones were dislocated, and to make matters worse, her face was completely unrecognizable! Her face was severely damaged. What kind of demon could do this to an innocent and defenseless human woman? Driven by a strong sense of justice, Javier felt an even greater determination to rescue her. "Please move quickly. She's still warm. There’s still hope. Hurry! Hurry!” He cradled the woman’s lifeless body once more. "B-But she's human, Javier," Jordan gently reminded him. "And what's the big deal? She needs our f*****g help! Just because she's not one of us doesn't mean we limit our kindness. Now, shut up and help me. We need to move quickly! Push through the foliage!” Jordan regained his composure, and the three of them swiftly headed towards the car. Javier gently placed the woman in the passenger seat. "Hurry up, Nick!" Javier glanced at the woman, her face completely damaged and unrecognizable. "Be strong human, stay still. Don't give up," he whispered to himself while looking at the poor victim. As the car raced towards the hospital, little did they know that the woman inside was none other than Veronica Fuentebella!
