5 The Past

Rowan POV

Aubrielle, I'm not the boy you once knew. I've done things to survive that I can never take back. I am not worthy of being anything to you. "Well, apparently the Moon Goddess and I don't agree." You only say that because you have no idea the monster I've become. I found my mother five years after I left and had it not been for my wolf, the King of Rogues, as he calls himself, would have killed me and Toby. Even though I was only sixteen when Raymond threatened to kill me, I shifted into Goliath. The moment Raymond saw his size and that he was a white wolf, he claimed me as his heir. Goliath is the only reason that my mother, Toby, and I are still alive. After the abuse my mother endured at his hands, she could never have anymore children. Even though he takes many others who may have had children, he won't claim any of them because they are not worthy of a King. She stares at me with pity in her eyes. I wasn't going to come back, but Raymond wants you now. "So your here to please your father and take me back" she says as she stands. I step in front of her of course, not I would never betray you that way, after all your family did for me. "Is that the only reason because you owe us something?" I reach up and touch her face with the palm of my hand. The tingles on my skin are amazing but I drop my hand. I can't give into this bond if I want to protect her. I told you, Aubrielle, I'm not worthy of being your mate, but I will protect you from that monster. I just needed you to know everything. I turn to leave and she grabs my arm.

Aubrielle POV

I can't believe what I'm hearing. Finding my mate should be the happiest moment of my life and he is saying he isn't worthy. Rowan, I don't accept that you think your not worthy, we are mates. I don't care about what you had to do to survive. I will protect you, your mother, and Toby from this monster. He laughs "Aubrielle, do you think I stayed there by choice." No, I know he threatened your mother but I can protect her. "I don't need you to protect her, that's my job and I told you that you have no idea what your up against to even say that to me." Then tell me Rowan and stop being a stubborn ass. I see his eyes flash black but I have no fear of him. "One of Raymond's many whores is a witch and she has done casting on my mother should she try to leave she will die." I feel sick to my stomach at all they have endured at this evil man's hands. Come with me and we can talk to my parents to fight against Raymond and those that stand with him. " You are not listening if he ever got wind of me being here for any reason but to take you he would kill my mother and then Toby." "I only came here to warn you of what is coming.," So you are going to do his bidding. "No I will never take you or hurt you but I do have to fight by his side I have no choice." I turn and start toward the palace. When I walk five feet I'm looking into the very pissed face of Liam.

"You bastard, you, would betray us, for some rogue." Enough Liam, this doesn't concern you. "Like hell it doesn't Aubrielle, I may not be your mate because of our family ties, but I am your family no matter what." "I would protect you and, our family with my last breath and this bastard only cares about himself." You don't know anything so stop talking now. Liam grabs me and pulls me toward the palace. I hear an earth-shattering roar and turn back to see Rowan's eyes are black as night. Goliath is definitely not liking Liam's hands on me. I pull out of Liam's grip and run till I'm toe to toe with Rowan. I grab the back of his neck and slam his lips down on mine. At first he doesn't respond, I think out of shock, but then he wraps his arms around me and deepens the kiss. "I want our mate Aubrielle" she growls in my head. Rowan pulls back and his eyes are still black. "That's a dangerous game, little mate." So do you accept I''m your mate Goliath? "Absolutely I'm not the one you need to convince love." I see his eyes return to the piercing blue and Rowan looks pissed.

Rowan POV

He doesn't call the shots, Aubrielle and I already told you I can't be your mate. "That's fine, I have no intentions of begging you to accept me Rowan." "I only kissed you to calm you down." She turns and walks back to Liam taking his hand. "You asshole you just told our mate you don't want her." I don't even respond but I shift heading out of the territory. As soon as I'm through the trees, Jason is waiting. "Where is she, you little s**t?" I told you it wouldn't be that easy. I'm still a rogue. I have to convince her I'm that little boy she remembers. "Raymond isn't patient and I can smell her on you." No s**t, I had her when that, asshat Liam interfered convincing her to not trust me yet. She even kissed me before he came. "Well I guess you had better get him out of your way because Raymond won't want your excuses." "You know who will suffer for your incompetence." I shift again and head toward the pack.

When I arrive, I head straight for my room, praying my mother is still there, but of course she isn't. I head for Raymond's door when I hear noises I hate to hear from his room, especially if it's my mother on the other side. I head back to my room. After a while, my mother walks in and heads right for the shower. I hate this. I can't keep watching this happen to her. The bedroom door opens and Raymond walks in. "Where is the princess, Rowan?" I explain the story I made up and he smiles. "I knew she would't want a rogue like you." She will, I just need to remind her that I'm the boy she once knew. My mother comes out of my bathroom and Raymond smiles. "Every night that girl is not in my bed your mother will be." "Let's see if that lights a fire under your ass." I stand "something to say Rowan." "Don't forget that Sabrina is only a snap of my fingers away." Fine I say through gritted teeth. I watch him take my mother's hand and lead her out of my room.

After they are gone, Toby comes into my room. "What are you going to do, Rowan?" I don't know exactly yet, Toby, but we are getting out of here if I have to die trying. Just please be careful, Brother. I smile and hug Toby. I promise I will.
