Bryson had expected a speech—one of those drawn-out, overtly factual yet entirely unnecessary lessons that Amaya referred to as “mansplaining”—but if such a thing had been waiting on Duke’s tongue, it died the moment he saw Beau. “When did this start?” Bryson stepped closer, watching Duke slide his hands over Beau. “I’m not really sure about the breathing. We came back in the stall and fell asleep.” “That’s it? And you woke up and he was like this?” “Yep.” Duke looked over his shoulder. “Are you sure?” Bryson nodded. “Yes. Well, I mean…” He paused, but only long enough to register Duke’s deepening frown. “Okay. From the beginning, then. We came in, I turned off the lights so we could chill out, and I started to brush him down. Then Rebecca showed up and Beau had a little freak out—”
