Chapter Six... The Dinner Party Part Two

1292 Words
*Kate POV* I was silent most of the ride to the party. I still didn't understand what was about to happen. I still felt that uneasiness in the pit of my stomach and the closer we got the more intense it became. All I wanted to do was go home. "Don't react. Don't let them know I am with you. Just be calm my precious jewel. I am here with you." Grothet said. My eyes widened somewhat, but I quickly closed them and took a small breath. I didn't want to talk out loud, so I attempted to talk to him in my mind. Would it work? "Grothet? How is this possible? I am not asleep or dreaming." I say confused. "You are close to my human side. I have only seen him yesterday, but I only showed him my eyes. I let him join your dreams last night." Grothet mumbled. Join my dreams? I was so confused right now. What did he mean his human side? "Does this mean you... are... real?" I asked hesitantly. He growled impatiently and then answered. "Yes, my precious jewel. Dragons are very real. I have come to you because your heart and soul called to me." "Hello? Are you going to ignore me Kate?" my mother screamed angrily breaking me from my conversation with Grothet. I looked over at her cautiously and gulp inwardly. "I'm sorry mother, what were you saying?" I said softly. I had to try and calm her down before we got to the party otherwise she would embarrass me badly. She scoffed and clenched her fists. "Obviously you are distracted by something far more important than what I have to say," she said harshly as she turned her nose up and looked away. "Kate, when will you learn to show respect to your mother? We have done everything for you and this is the type of payback we get. I have half a mind to turn around and take you back home. Unfortunately, tonight is more important than your mother and me. You will learn to give your mother your full attention or so help me God when we get home the consequences will be very painful for you." my father says harshly. "They will pay with their f*****g lives if they so much as lay a finger on you. You belong to me You are my mate. I will not let anyone hurt you." Grothet said in a low and frightening voice. I felt chills run up my body just from his voice alone. He was not very happy. "I am sorry father... it won't happen again," I whispered out. Grothet growled out with annoyance. "You shouldn't be apologizing. You didn't do anything wrong." "That's right, it won't. I want you on your best behavior tonight. Am I understood Kate?" my father said with a curt tone. I nodded my head and looked down at my lap. I just listen to Grothet as he keeps me company and tries to make me feel better. I hope that I meet this person Grothet was talking about to me. Will he be the one to finally take me away from all this misery and despair? Will he be the one to show me love and affection? * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *Drake POV* I felt Grothet the more closer we got to the party. He was talking to her. Occasionally he would let me hear their conversations and then sometimes he would block me out. I knew he still didn't trust me completely, but I would prove to him that I was worthy of the dragon gift. I would do whatever it took to prove myself to him. He started showing me a foot or even his tail at times, but never his full body. He was teasing me and I was getting very frustrated, but I couldn't let it get to me. He was testing me and I had to pass this test whether I liked it or not. "We are almost there. When we arrive you can't just plow through the guests looking for your mate. It is safer at the moment that no one knows just exactly what she is to you. If she was to fall into the wrong hands, they could use her against you. We can not show weakness this early on. Just act casual and if you find her, just ask her to dance or something. Don't be too obvious." my father said cautiously and my mother just nodded her head in agreement. I tried taking deep breaths to calm myself down because I could feel Grothet's anger and excitement at the same time. The only thing I wanted to do when we got there was put my full attention on my mate, but I knew I was still new to this and it was better to listen to my father. He was the Dragon King, so his word was law. Grothet wasn't happy either, because I could feel Grundox growl impatiently at him and Grothet just growled back. I didn't understand how Grothet was so rebellious towards Grundox. Wasn't all dragons supposed to submit to their King? Why was Grothet different? I remember when Grundox appeared before me and asked me what Grothet's name was, he was surprised and maybe a little shocked. Was Grothet special? Did he have things other dragons did not? He had to have something rare if my mate could see him and talk to him whether she was dreaming or wide awake. We finally arrived and the driver got out and opened our doors. My mother was first, followed by my father, then I came out last. I briefly scanned the area to see if she had gotten there yet. I didn't sense her so I continued inside. We were introduced and I began to mingle casually as I scanned the crowd. I was introduced to Kieran Bartholomew, he was apparently the Vampire Prince. He was one of the main guests tonight apart from my father the King. I was losing hope that she would come and was about to tell my father that I was going to leave when I felt a sudden change in the room. I turned suddenly and scanned the crowds again. I noticed a young woman enter with people who looked to be her parents. She seemed uneasy and maybe sad. She had this strange aura that surrounded her. She smelled of lavender and cherries. The smell was intoxicating. She seemed to be scanning the crown too like she was looking for someone. When her eyes landed on me, she gasped softly. I smiled at her and she returned the smile, but she began blushing brightly. I was affecting her as she was me. I started feeling my body begin changing inside. I could feel Grothet even stronger than I did before. I felt as if I was in a trance and had no control over my body. I began walking toward her and she just waited patiently looking shy. When I stood in front of her she lifted her hand up to meet mine. It seemed as if the whole world had stopped, like her and I were the only ones in this room. When our hands connected the electricity that flowed from my body to hers was shocking. We both gasped softly looking back and forth between our hands. "Are you him?" she whispered. I looked at her curiously, "Who?" I whispered back. "My mate?" she said and I inhaled sharply. "MINE," I growled. It was the only thing I could even think about. She was finally mine.
