The quest of Alpha Airen

“Airen, can you explain to me why you were at the meeting? Are you not supposed to be in the hall with the rest of the contestants?”, Gamma Ashley asked as he entered his private chambers, where Airen was waiting for him patiently.

“I am not sorry that I went there. I have my reasons for going there”, Airen replied, not afraid of how Gamma Ashley would react to his declaration.

Right now, Airen was more concerned about Gamma Ashley's relationship with his late mama, and he needed an explanation of who he was and why he was called a cursed child by Zephyr.

Ashley looked at Airen and let out a chuckle. It did not surprise him with his response. Airen was indeed his mother's child.

“What are these reasons?”, Gamma Ashley asked as he took his seat and folded his hands, leaning back in the chair.

“I am sure you know who I am and don't act like you don't. I feel it in some part of me that you have been watching over me from afar while I was in America with my family, and I know you are aware of what occurred some weeks ago. The woman who I had known as my mama until the second she took her last breath was killed in cold blood because she was protecting me from something that I know nothing about, and the only thing she gave to me while fighting for her life was a piece of paper with your name written on it. I am confused and filled with resentment. I am pissed at myself and if I don't get an answer from you, I might just run mad,” Airen exhaled deeply as he finished talking.

Anyone could see the hurt in his gaze and feel the pain of his words. This was a boy who was using the last dredges of hope in him to seek the answers he had been looking for.

“Hmm”, Gamma Ashley sighed deeply and covered his mouth with his hand.

He didn't know where to start or what to say. He knew he couldn't keep the truth from him, and although he had promised Ariel he would not say anything until they had informed Luna Eleanor of Airen's presence, he had to tell Airen what he wanted to know.

Gamma Ashley started narrating how it all began, how his parents had tried for a child, and they finally were blessed him, Zephyr's prophecy of him being a cursed child, and how his mother, Luna Eleanor switched him with an omega child, so she could save him from being killed.

“Your mother, Luna Eleanor, did her best to keep you alive. Mildred was her trusted maiden, one that grew with her which was why she handed you to her, although It broke her soul allowing another woman to care for her child when she was supposed to be the one doing that,” Gamma Ashley explained everything to Airen not leaving out any detail.

“Are you trying to say that my birth mother loved me so much and that is why she gave me away and refused to visit me all this while? She hasn't even realized that something had happened to my mama and that I am in Germany and not America? Do you think I'm a love-hungry fool?”, Airen snickered and bit his bottom lip, not wanting to understand what Gamma Ashley had just said.

“Airen you have to believe me. Luna Eleanor cried herself to sleep every night after she had given you to Mildred. She loved you with all her heart and spent every single day preparing for your return,” Gamma Ashley insisted.

“Then why didn't she visit me all these years? She lived her life like I wasn't existing. She missed all my birthdays, games, every single thing that has to do with me, but you say she loves me? Hell no, I wished she was the one who died and not my actual mama!”.

Airen was met with a hot slap from Ariel, who was fuming with anger, leaving Airen dumbfounded and unable to speak. Airen just held his jaw, tears forming in his eyes as he looked at Ariel, wondering why he slapped him.

“You will not talk ill of Godmother! How could you wish death on her? Airen, regardless of what she is still your mother”, Ariel sneered at him.

“Why? Because she is your godmother? I am sorry Alpha Ariel, but being a mother doesn't have to do with just bringing a child into this cold, evil world. It takes a lot and more to be a mother, and that was what Mildred was to me. A mother!”, Airen retorted, his eyes flinging daggers at Ariel.

“Ariel and Airen, that's enough”, Efe said in a soothing tone.

She walked in front of Airen and used the handkerchief in her hand to wipe off his tears. She moved even closer to him and blew softly on where Airen was slapped.

“It is okay. I understand why you feel this way, but you need to understand there is a reason why she didn't visit you. Godmother was scared of Zephyr using dark magic on her to know what you truly look like. She had to take a potion on your birthdays so she could sleep throughout and quench the urge of flying down to America just to get a glimpse of you. Now I am not asking you to forgive her for neglecting you nor am I trying to invalidate your feelings, but please try to understand why she did what she did,” Efe smiled warmly at Airen not letting her eyes off his.

Airen shut his eyes for some seconds and breathed in deeply before he opened his eyes again, taking a glance at Ariel and Ashley.

“I am done here. My father doesn't love me; he sacrificed me willingly without putting up a fight and now he beds the woman who sent me to my death. My mother claims to love me, which is why she has to let me go just to keep me alive. Fine, I understand but mark my words, I will make sure they regret ever letting go of my hands. I will win this conquest and prove to them that I am not cursed, but rather a blessing to anyone who comes in contact with me,” Airen declared vigorously.

He turned his back swiftly, about to leave, when Ariel stopped him and walked toward him.

“You have finally found out the truth, so I'm sure you will no longer be unconcerned and be prudent with your surroundings and the people around you. Zeke isn't your friend but your enemy, so-”, Airen cut Ariel in a loathsome manner.

“Don't worry, I never thought I had any friends in the conquest, not even you who calls himself my mentor”, Airen sneered and walked out of the room.

As Ariel watched Airen leave, he felt a sharp pain in his heart. It was like a part of him had walked off with Airen.

Why did he hurt?

Why couldn't he stand to see Airen sad? What is this feeling? Ariel asked himself, as he stared at the door.

“{I can't believe this}”, Sage, Ariel's wolf mind-linked Airen.

“{What is it, Sage?}”, Ariel mind-linked back.

“{He is our mate}”, Sage revealed, causing Ariel to yell the word fxck unconsciously which got the attention of Ashley and Efe who was busy thinking of a way to hide Airen's identity from Zephyr and inform Luna Eleanor of Airen's participation in the conquest.

“Why are you the one screaming when you were the one who slapped someone else?”, Efe scowled at her brother as it still pissed her at how he reacted to Airen's statement.

“Nothing, I just remembered that Zara asked me to prepare the quest for today's task”, Ariel lied, smiling nervously as told them he had to take his leave.

“Well, while you are at it, don't forget to apologize to Airen for what transpired between the both of you and also keep an eye on him because we don't know what he might do with the anger that he has brewing in him”, Efe advised.

“Are you not coming?”, Ariel asked.

“No, I can't stand being in the same room as Zephyr, I will stay back at Gamma Ashley's chambers and use this time to come up with the perfect way to inform godmother of Airen's presence, just until Zephyr takes her leave, and I can come out again”, Efe responded.

“Okay”, Ariel nodded his head and left their presence.

“Alpha, Ariel, I have been looking for you. Do we proceed with today's task?”, Zara, blocked Ariel's path as he was about to take the way leading to his chambers.

“Zara, I think it's better we don't do today's task and rather allow them to rest and get to know more about the rules and regulations for the conquest. Today is already far gone after Zephyr's rude interruption”, Ariel suggested. His reasons were solid, but deep down he wasn't ready to face Airen after what his wolf had just revealed to him.

“If you say, so then I have no issues with it”, Zara agreed to his suggestion.

She turned on her heels and was about to leave, but Airen called on her, making her halt her step.

“Zara, please relay to Airen that he is to sleep in the dormitory today. I need some alone time to think of tomorrow's task and I want to avoid him taking a peek at them”, Ariel told.

Zara nodded, acknowledging his words, and retired back to the task hall.

“{You know you can't evade him forever}”, Sage said to Ariel as he walked to his private chambers.

“{I know I can't, but right now, this is the only option I have. How does this even work? The goddess isn't being fair to me at all, Sage. That boy hates me with all his being currently, and today I'm finding out he is my mate? It makes little sense to me. I didn't wait all these years for my mate only for the goddess to give such a surprise}”, Ariel lamented to his wolf.

Ariel had been mateless for years. Each mating season, he had wished to find his mate, but he wasn't lucky enough and whenever he complained, they always told him maybe the goddess was preparing someone special for him. And now he was finding out that the so-called special someone was Airen?

“{You haven't indeed tried, and you are giving up on your mate?}”, Sage, chides Ariel.

“{Why won't I? That boy is going through a lot presently and I know love isn't on his agenda and even if it is, it won't be me. He may already like someone else as we speak}”, Ariel was more confused now than he had been his whole life.

How does he act now with this mate bond? No wonder he had felt a connection with Airen the minute he set his eyes on him, no wonder Airen could locate him with ease, a feat that hasn't been achieved in years Airen could identify his scent which was a huge surprise to Ariel who had spent years cultivating how to mask his scent completely, he should have known the moment an untrained wolf could detect his scent that something was amiss.

Ariel shrugged.

There was no need for him to be so troubled. He still had a lot of time to get over the mate pull and if he was completely successful, Airen might never find out that they were mates.

Ariel opened the door to his chambers and met Airen, he was half-naked with water dripping out of his hair.

He had thought that Airen looked like a pretty boy, but he was very mistaken as it was only his face that looked boyish, his chest and waist definitely screamed male or maybe mate. Ariel was too jacked to think properly.

He was stunned and silent, unable to move as he stared at the view in front of him.

Wasn't he supposed to be at the task hall? Why was he here and unclad?

Does the goddess hate me this much? Ariel reflected as he continued to stare at Airen.

“I am sorry I didn't know you were coming in, and omega poured some juice on me, which is why I came back to the room to wash up and get changed”, Airen explained even without being asked.

“It is okay, I will just go ahead into my room”, Ariel said after he had cleared his throat and rushed into his room, banging the door behind him.

“Hmm, first he slapped me, and now it seems he can't stand me”, Airen scoffed and went into his room.

He stood in front of the mirror and stared at his reflection, his eyes clouded with the thought of vengeance, and his thirst for the blood of those who murdered his mama and Mathew was burgeoning.

“I will make sure I make those who murdered you so cold-heartedly feel tenfold the same pain I did when I watched you take your last breath. They will beg for death, but death will be far from them. They will cry their eyes out, but the world will feign ignorance to their cries”, Airen swore as he smashes the mirror with his fist and the tears pour down his cheeks.
