The dimly lit tunnel gave one the impression that the underground shelter was poorly designed and greatly diminished in size. However, as they clamored down the metal ladder and went deeper in, the space began to widen until they reached a heavy metal door. Mica retrieved a plastic card from the pocket of her shorts and swiped it over the access control system. The red light changed to green with a beep, and she opened the door. Ruby sucked in a quick breath, as did the others. The underground shelter far surpassed their expectations.
